Oh, man. I was just researching 3rd brake lights last weekend. I didn't think Morimoto would ever release one. Now I'm torn between getting this or the Evil Offroad version with the camera system.

Edit: I do question on if that brake light hood is going to be an issue with my cab spoiler. I might wait to see if they release more photos or an install video like they've done with their other products.

Lol, too true. I am used to it though. Have their head lights and tail lights already. And, to top it off, I'm waiting on replacement tail lights since August. Was told they won't have restock until later this month, so I've been waiting for a few months. If anything, it'll allow me time to recoup my bank account from the holidays.

If they had switchbacks that would be nice

If you're referring to the tail lights, they should be. Amber for the sequential turns and red for the brake and parking.

Yeah, these are the Tacoma Morimoto version (custom) from MESO though. No more sequential but reverse bucket reverse / turn leaving a higher output for brake / parking. also resulting in a higher out put in amber turns

Oh ok, so I'm confused. Are you saying you want the Tundra Morimoto version to be like the MESO's? If so, I would think MESO would consider doing the same since there's a Tundra tail light version out now.

Yes, would be nice for the Tundra version to be like that.

I don't think MESO will do the Tundra version though. He worked in the development of the Tacoma versions with Morimoto, not the Tundra version though. Probably why they're not listed on his website.

Just installed my Morimoto tail lights on my 20 TRD sport. I went with the red lens version and I’m VERY happy with how they look. Completely updates the dated rear end of the truck and just brings it back to life. I tried ordering the alpha Rex lux’s but did NOT like the smoked lens look. The red morimoto are a shade darker than the stock tails - but not too extreme. I was second guessing $700 for lights - but after having them on - worth it.

I'm still torn between the red or black/smoked lens for my MGM. Lol leaning towards smoked since my morimoto headlights are smoked/dark but I'm sure the red looks great too

Nice! If I did go Evil, this is the version I was considering:

The only thing got me second guessing is drilling into the cab and wiring through and getting a new digital view camera.

Drilling was not bad at all make sure to center it where you want it. Use a stepped bit and also have a nutsert tool.

Wiring is also not bad just tedious. No need to pull the full headliner only pop the rear down and the driver side c pillar and feed it in. I’ll say the biggest pain was removing the factory third brake light.

This is what I'm dealing with right now - only the rear brake lamps and rear signals work with the headlights. I just installed the gen 2 morimoto xb headlights and have the morimoto tail lights with resistors already installed to prevent hyper flash. My 2020 TRD pro was never on the recall list. I'm wondering if it's just the fuse (hopefully) as you mentioned. I really dont feel like messing with that pin.

    Hello,
I am considering purchasing the Morimoto tails for my 2017 SR5. I recently did the headlight upgrade by adding the Toyota OEM LED headlights to my truck using Ihackers harness. My original halogen headlights had the turn signal DRL.

Will I be able to add the Morimoto tail lights with my current setup? If yes, where would I install the resistors that come with the tail lights and how are these installed?

    Thank you in advance.

Aren't the resistors internal on the Morimoto tails?

The Morimoto tail lights will work just fine with the OEM LED heads. They have a resistor already installed. It is affixed to the outside of the housing, and already wired up. No need to "install" anything additional. If you're shopping them we actually just put them on sale today too at Hotshot Offroad! Just add to cart to see the 20% off. Please note we are awaiting a restock that is expected to show up in a few weeks so they would technically be a pre-order.

Thank You both, so even though I am using iHackers harness for my OEM led headlights upgrade, i won’t have any issues with hyper flash?

As long as you don't have hyperflash now you shouldn't have any with the XB tail light install. The resistor on the XB tails is intended to mimic the load that the OEM halogen bulbs place on the system.

With the red lens version, did you have the same "molding" issue that others have reported with the Morimoto tail lights?

Not sure what the “molding” is. I know others have reported slight damage to the edge of the outer lens - i have not seen that with mine. The only issue i have seen is the screws that fasten the lights to the body. They require you to use the provided morimoto screws and not the ones that come with the truck. The morimoto screws are just a tad bit smaller and they do not come with a washer as the stock ones do. After washing my truck i got just a tiny little bit of fogging on the right tail light near the bottom. I believe it’s the lack of washer that allows some moisture to get in during something like a car wash (haven’t seen it with rain tho). I’m going to Home Depot today to get four washers and hopefully that will seal up the housing to prevent fogging.

I see the clear lens option has the standard and sequential turn signal plugs. does the red lens also have the standard and sequential turn signal plug?
