Well, I’ve been checking around locally & even contacted the part’s department of a couple of our Toyota dealerships, nothing is offered. I just figured someone on this forum might’ve come up with a solution. In the meantime, I haven’t been hassled for not wearing a plate on the front of my truck. I guess the police have bigger things to worry about.

Hey @empty_lord have you ever seen water leaking like this on a sienna? Went outside to pull it in the garage for a tire change, and there was water filling out my cupholders. The windshield looks like it may have been replaced previously, and in the middle the weatherstripping is pushed in too far maybe? But then it’s leaking around the sunroof yet the sunroof appears dry. I also don’t have the roof drain drip rubber pieces installed right now but I don’t think that would make a difference or cause this.

Open sunroof fully. Look in the lowest corners for the drain hole, not speaking to this truck specifically, but in most vehicles you'll see it at the end of a valley or at the lowest point. When you locate the hole, don't use pressurized air. Instead, get something soft, long, and plastic like weedeater string, and run it down the holes to slowly work through them, clear 'em out. Then carefully rinse with clean water. You can also do the inverse - start from where the drain exits, and work your way back up - if it's really impacted, this is a good option. Don't use anything stiff, metal.

If you need an instant fix and don't have time to find them, or just want to prove it's the sunroof drain, get clear packing tape. Tape the sunroof shut, so no water can enter the seam between the glass and sheetmetal. If water is still enters after that, sunroof isn't your issue, so consider taping the roof-to-windshield seam as another suspect, roof rail is the only other place but those covers are glued in, so replacing isn't 1-2-3 easy.

Where I'm seeing the water though, the sunroof makes the most logical sense.

Hopped on it. Hopefully they get it figured out. I'm thinking the worst though. I wouldn't be surprised to find something got spun, or a head is shot.

It'd be cool if someone made really worthwhile aftermarket heads for the 2UZ-FE VVTi version. Then you could really turn lemons into lemonade here. You'd hafta pop the heads off anyway, which would give you a reason to do head gaskets and see the at least some of the bottom-end.

Well, I threw some string trimmer string down the drain tubes and didn't really feel much resistance but followed by water and then repeated this. HOPING it fixes it and that the water didn't ruin my HVAC controls as that's where the water was dripping inside. I'd hate to get 200+ miles away from home and not be able to get any heat in the van. I left the van outside and will check in a few hours...time will tell.

When you ran water through, that should've exposed where the drain is. On DC, I think it goes down the b-pillar and exits maybe near the door sill? You'll know based on where water is.

Reason I say it is, check the water that ran out, to see if there's debris in it. It really doesn't take much to clog a drain enough that it backs up into your interior. A run of the mill funnel spider web is plenty enough to do it, it doesn't take a mason bee or leafcutter bee clogging it with mud.

Be sure you clear the channel that funnels down to the drain really well also. And don't forget, clear packing tape is your friend for troubleshooting. Not only is it invisible from 2-3ft, but you can tape over entire seams to isolate areas you think it may be.

PS - You know what seam sealer is, right? Basically where two metal sheets come together, manuf'ers will use almost like hard automotive caulk to seal the joint.

Seam sealer has a penchant for cracking in some places. This can be problematic at, say, where the corners of the sunroof come together if it's not a stamped-round sheet that makes up the roof.

For example, I had a really pesky leak coming in at my windshield, dripping from the visor. The problem was a crack in seam sealer where the B-pillar meets the roof line at the top corner of the door, here:

    upload_2022-11-1_20-51-51.jpg

This is a 90s GM truck, there was no shortage of shitshow with the seam sealer. Just look at this section where the cowl met the hinge, note that gaping lower upside-down L-shaped crack, and all the fine line cracks in the upper left box, such a damn joke!:

I think it may still apply, I guess I wasn't clear on that. Sienna has a sliding door, and the sunroof is windshield-forward, so there's no other place for it to drain except either the B-pillar or A-pillar, I doubt they'd run the drains to the back. Usually it'll drain towards the pillar that's nearest to the corner the drain is in, or the one that's sloped the most. I remember an old SUV (maybe a Touareg?) that ran it all the way to the rear corner pillar of the vehicle.

I think in the DC, it drains down the B-pillar, and probably either out up under the cab, or into the side of the door pillar itself. In other vehicles where the hood is sloped more to the front, it sometimes drains down the A-pillar and dribbles out by the wheel. The Sienna roofline geometry isn't something in my brain, so I'd shoot first for hunting out the other end at the base of the B-pillar or B-pillar door jambs. If not there, maybe check A-pillar.

Just trying to save some typing up there.

Our 4runner drains go all the way back behind the rear wheel wells I believe, they also have these weird like duck/reed bull flappers that the water is supposed to drip out from, I removed the ones in the rear once I finally found them, they almost look like a ballon with the end cut off but smaller.

Yup, they add the duck lips to prevent exactly what I mentioned - spiders and bees housing.

And doesn't surprise me they ran the drain all the way back there. I'm sure there's some brainiac reason, but ...

Still have to dial mine in 100%. But it’s really looking like it’s more of an intake issue with the fuel trims than ecm. Like ecm is part of it. But the oscillations I’m seeing are pointing to intake flow being off

Thanks for the tips guys. Still can’t find the leak and yes the rear of the front sunroof drains run to at least the rear of the sliding doors if not the rear wheels. Gonna have to take the van in and have it checked cause I don’t know what else to do. Can’t really pinpoint a spot that it’s leaking from.

The window definitely looks suspect. But the water near the grab handles couldn’t come from it. Typically those hoses partially clog, during heavy rain they’ll get over tan by water and start spilling over the drip tray

This is why I rather not have sunroofs lol

Thank you! I started reading that exact thread earlier today but got sidetracked and went another direction. I’ll let it dry till the morning in the garage and then throw some caulk there. Funny enough, the van is normally parked in the garage but has been in the driveway for the past month, with the front being on a downward angle just like the others having issues.

The tube smooths out flow. But the maf is still in the box. The engine may way more air. But to test I need a different maf and an adapter for now.

Potentially. If I do anything it’ll involve a velocity stack and a denso maf. Since he can change the maf curve using a different maf isnt a huge deal

Welp. Apparently one of the guys doing HVAC at my house totally bent the shit out of my pristine OEM skid plate. Here's the freebie from @baraynavab I refurb'd siting in front of my pristine OEM plate. Note how badly that's flared out. Close-up of the damage in the 2nd pic. Of course, nobody told me about this but I had the plate leaning up below the exact spot they were working on, and nobody else had any reason or access to be in that corner of the garage. Super disappointed. I'm sure I can bend it back and repaint, but ... fml man. This is why we can't have nice things, I guess. It gets banged up with use anyway, but it's the principle of it all ffs!
