I've never seen it posted anywhere on this site. Really looks very nice.

Finally! Since my childhood in the 80’s Ive always wanted a RCSB truck. In 2007 that truck was the Tundra. Years back I probably would have bought a 2wd 5.7 and built a street truck… At this point in my life only a 4x4 makes sense living in the Pacific Northwest.

Last week I boarded a plane, signed papers and took a ferry back with this 2012 RCSB 4x4 5.7 TRD Off Road. Build date is 4/12 so thats a plus in my books. At 138k kilometers (86k miles) its in great shape and just needs some routine maintenance. I was very impressed with the truck on the short drive back, it sure is thirsty. Its seems to have a 2-3” level kit and rides on 33.2” 275/70 tires. Looking forward to documenting my build.

I had to ride in a packed Greyhound bus overnight that reeked of weed. That's all I can remember about it...;). Glad the truck already knew where I lived.

Finally dropped down from the 37s to 35s. I've owned 7 Toyotas so far and I've always wanted 37s. Now, I don't think I'll ever put 37s on something unless it's a dedicated rock crawler. They blew my steering pump and really effected the truck's performance. The 35s also just fit better on the regular cab. It's nice having power back as well! We went with the Icon Vector 5 wheels and ditched Methods.

It feels so much better. We plan to lower it more for better towing, too.

Hello all. I’m new here but I am dead set on a RCSB Tundra. I saw one in person today and realized it’s what I want, but the one I saw had some bad leaks and a bad lift that had been beat up so I don’t think it’s the one for me. Anybody on here ready to part with theirs or know of one available? I’m willing to travel just about anywhere in the western states. Thank you!

Here’s a red one that looks very stock, lower mileage. RWD which is rare. 4.7L if that’s your thing.

…but, if I was in the market, I’d be all over this one. An Arizona truck (no rust!) - 4x4 5.7L looking very stock and well cared for, and it’s low mileage. The sky is the limit from my perspective.

These both look nice, I’ve seen these posts already. I have scoured Craigslist, offerup, and Facebook and the one I saw today is literally the only one with the spec I want.

So, to specify, I’m looking for a 4.7 4x4, preferably factory trd off-road or SR5.

I am committed to this, so I will probably end up looking for some time. I’ll be sure to let the thread know once I find it.

Best of luck in your search. I searched casually/opportunistically for about a year, then intensely for about 6 months. I found what I wanted and pounced without hesitation.

Ok, so I might be persuaded to look for a 5.7. My biggest draw to 4.7 was the better gas mileage, but after reading some threads, I’ve seen some surprising (hopefully legit) numbers. It will be for overlanding, so almost exclusively highways, no interstates, and I’m guessing around 55-65mph on average. I’m also wanting to put on either 33s or 35s. My rig in the bed might be 500 lbs but definitely no more than that. If I could get close to 20mpg, I would be happy.

*I do NOT want to start another mpg thread* however, I assume nobody in those threads has a RCSB without specifying, and since it is shorter and lighter, I expect a small difference.

My question: Do any of you have experience driving a whole tank at around 60mph in a 5.7? Also would be interested to hear stats from a 4.7 or 4.6 just in case. Thanks!

I can get 20mpg out of mine on occasion, but you really have to work at it, and it's under pretty particular conditions. Stock tires, empty bed, lot's of off throttle deceleration on long hill descents.

My 5.7L got about 20 MPG sitting on the back of a flatbed coming from Arizona to my home in California when I bought it. It gets a lot less these days.

In all sincerity, I’ve only heard that the 4.7 and 5.7 get such similar mileage as to not matter, and have even heard plausible arguments that the 4.7 can be worse in that it tends to get pushed harder due to the reduced HP.

I don’t track my mileage, but I know it’s not good. Then again I’ve never wanted for power, and I thank God this thing likes Regular and isn’t a diesel.

I can’t speak to the 4.6, I’m not even sure if Toyota made a RCSB with a 4.6L. If it were me, for your intended use, I’d probably bite the bullet and get the 5.7L - it’s bulletproof, common (parts and service), and up for the task.

If mileage is a dealbreaker, maybe compare/look at a different vehicle?

I can find one RCSB with a 4.6, but must be very uncommon.

Mileage is not a deal breaker, but better would be… better. Blah blah gas prices blah blah… This style checks off so many other boxes for me, it’s a good compromise of everything I want. I’m 6’6” so a medium size truck is a squeeze.

I’m getting more and more convinced to just get the 5.7. Go figure- a bunch of truck owners convincing me to get the biggest engine.

I'm not as familiar with the 4.7L, but I've heard through the grapevine that it and the 5.7L get pretty similar to each other.

I found one for sale near me for a great price, but it has 330k miles. I haven’t seen the undercarriage yet, but if it’s clean and checks out mechanically, should I still steer clear? I know they can go the distance, but how worth it would it be? It is listed much lower than others around the country. Is $6-7k cheaper worth the high miles? Carfax are clean, only 3 owners. I’d love to hear your thoughts

Yeah, 330k miles is a lot of miles, like really a lot. Of course it may be the most well cared for truck ever, and figure by 330k about everything that could go wrong has probably gone wrong and been properly addressed (I hope), with OEM parts and high attention to detail.

To each his own - if you’re looking for opinions, I always buy used (2 yrs or older for depreciation), wait for what I want (key features), 50k miles or less (30k or less is better), and I don’t mind paying a little over market when I know it ticks off all the right boxes. Honestly, I’d steer clear based on the miles, doubly so if it didn’t live in a salt-free or desert state. But, this is your thing, and if you’ve got assurances and a way to verify things look and are shipshape, and the price is right, and the features are there, then go for it?

I too thought having a smaller/shorter Tundra would mean better MPG… Compared to a 5.7 4x4 Crewmax, the RCSB 4x4 is about 550lbs lighter and a couple feet shorter. After reading endless MPG threads, my truck doesn’t seem to be any better than the rest of them on 33.2” AT’s and front 2.4” lift.

Despite the thirst for fuel, no regrets with the stout 5.7 motor. All highway driving I managed 18MPG. With an entire tank spent driving in the city results in the 13-14MPG range are reality.

well, folks, I finally did it. After months of waiting for the right one, I couldn’t pass this one up. Price was right, condition is great, history is clean as a whistle. And look at how RED it is! I just love it. Next step is a full lift kit, then build out a little camping rig. Eventually a custom paint job and custom pop up camper. I have just loved driving this beast and can’t wait to take out into the middle of nowhere and then a bit further. I’ll be sure to keep the group updated. Glad to be a part of the small gang of owners of baddest truck ever made!

From the photo, I’d say you did very well. I’ve always been a fan of the red color, not every truck can pull it off like a Tundra can. I’ll keep an eye out for your upcoming enhancements.
