    Forum peoples,

I have always used the dealer or local shop to change my fluids.

With the help of a much more experienced friend who works on cars, we are going to change the following this coming weekend:
    Engine oil
    Trans fluid
    Front and rear diffs

On my to do / purchase list:
    drain container
    crush washers
    oil filter
    fluids

    Two questions:
    1) what am I missing to get the job done properly?
    2) what does everyone recommend for fluids?

    Thanks

oil filter wrench if you don't have one. (about $25)
if doing maintenance yourself, consider a fumoto valve to keep from making a mess while draining oil. (about $25)
if haven't done it yet, check brakes and brake pads. same with brake fluid if never drained/replaced.
obviously air intake filter if you haven't checked or done. (about $20)
    less obviously...the cabin air filter.(about $10)
if you ever cross deep water for your rear diff like offroading, creek crossing, boat launches, etc...consider a rear diff breather tube/vent kit or diy one like lots have done. (about $20)

You’ll need hex bits to get the drain and fill plugs out of the transfer case and front diffs.

You'll need a pump more or some other way to get fluid into the transfer case and diffs. I have a hose that screws onto a gear oil bottle with an on/off so you can squeeze the bottle to fill the cases.

I’d use Mobil 1 or Amsoil 75-90w synthetic in the diffs. I use the same in my transfer case but the 2.5 gens call for 75w. Personally I’d just spring for the WS fluid. It’s only a couple of quarts.

Just wanted to say thanks to the forum.

Was able to change front and rear diffs, transfer case and engine oil yesterday. Took in total about 2 hours. This was the first time I have ever done it on my own. No hiccups or issues. Removing the skid was probably most annoying part of the process.
