    A bunch
There's too many people that see 1/2 ton trucks and 3/4 and 1 ton trucks as being from the same purpose. Over the last 10 years 1/2 tons have gone from being related to the HD trucks to being closer related to sedans. Think of how mid size SUV's were thought of 10-15 years ago, that's how 1/2 ton trucks should be thought of. Far too many people think 1/2 ton trucks are still work trucks, and unfortunately sales people don't help this.

The research you mention would find this exact point, but far too many people look at a brochure and that's it. Then they blame the manufacturer when there's 1000's of posts or comments saying the brochure doesn't tell the entire story. HD trucks still have that 'tool' trim level, but 1/2 tons don't really anymore because manufacturers don't see the value in producing them.

Looks good, are you going to lunar rock the blue on the boat, that would look perfect.

Wow that’s nuts, that aluminum trailer would weigh about 3000lbs empty so either you have a lot of weight in the front or something is fishy post a couple pics with the front and rear ramp down with that squat.

    Should’ve gotten a 3/4 ton.

Towing ain’t no job for these modern day El Caminos.

This is far from the truth and can be disregarded.

He just needs a WDH. A 3/4 ton would need one as well.

It is definitely a sharp looking boat! I just got my miles up to tow mine around.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Towing with this vs 2nd Gen is different, less RPMs. I didnt put into tow+ but might try next time as its on the line of weight, depending on how much fuel/gear I have on.

Trailering can be such a PITA to get the combo set up properly. So many variables, especially with a softer offroad rear suspension. Trying to maintain factory ride and capabilities while also trying to haul well is a chore.

It can be a pain but luckily forums exist where we can spit ball ideas

I know I got a lot of good insite on this forum when I first got my toy hauler, I had plenty towing experience in the past but was mostly with car haulers and dolly's

For a 7,000 lb trailer...not hardly...on mine I never even considered a WDH unless the trailer I was towing was getting close to 12K. The biggest problem with most of these 1/2 tons (especially the tundra) is that they run out of payload way before they run out of pulling capacity...

That TRD Pro has soft springs so your gonna see sag with some surprisingly light weight. Thats one of the worst I have seen pics of yet though....

Dont let them big 3 fan boys get a hold of that pic....the Meme's will be endless...lol:):)

I am planning to acquire a new 34FT airstream that is about 7500 Lbs. for my 4x4 SR5 TUN, which WDH is good option.. can someone suggest a good one. I dont have airbags on it not that they help for tow.

7500 wet or dry? You planning to load it up to full GVWR of the trailer or try to keep it as close to dry weight as possible?

I’d get a bar set up like the curt round bar or trunnion. I’ve tried the Anderson chain one it doesn’t do much, bar ones seem better from my experience.

My trailer has a GVWR of 7600lbs (that's a 5400lb dry trailer). I think I'm right about at the limit of what I would tow with this truck. The tongue weight is 1000lbs when loaded. Depending on what truck you get, after you put two people in it hooked up you will be right at payload capacity. I think the 34' you're talking about would be WAY to much trailer.

I will say, my Tundra tows as good (probably better with the lower end torque and 10spd trans) as my '19 Ram 1500.

TRD lift kit won’t work on a Pro. Maybe try some sumo springs?

I also have a Pro but I think we are screwed until someone comes out with beefier spring options. Robinson sells 2” lift springs but they are basically Land Cruiser 80/100 springs. I’m not sure about the weight capacity increase (if any).

Also, not sure if you have the OEM suspension or put in a collar lift kit. But if you did the latter, it will accentuate the sag.

Its a pro with fox suspension… its soft, on purpose. You bought the wrong truck lol, you paid a bunch for a suspension thats working against your wants.

go blast across a couple speed humps at 45-50mph and rescind your regret, but its still not going to tow that trailer lol.

1000lbs on the tongue is too much. You need to load it different. Is it a 2-5/16 ball or a 2”? If its a 2” then its definitely too much tongue, and if its 2-5/16” it still may be.

A lot of ball mounts arent rated for much more than 750lbs max unless you move up to a 3” tube like youd find on a heavy duty truck.

Best advice is a WDH and bags, but first work on reloading.

Tundra has a class IV hitch - those are rated for 14000 lbs of towing, 1400 lbs of tongue weight. It should be a 2 5/16 ball for sure at that weight

I think the 2nd Gen ball mount itself is rated for 10k lbs.

regardless, a 7500lb trailer shouldnt have 1000lb on the tongue. and most of the drop hitch setups in 2” and even 2-5/16 max out at 750lb or 1000lb, unless theyre forged, and then maybe you see a 1500lb max

Tongue weight should be between 10 and 15%, which is 750-1125 lbs.

so what is the optimal max GVWR and/or Dry weight the Tundra would handle?

is a Dry weight of 5500lbs and a GVWR of 7500 to much for a Tundra?

You need a WDH and set it i up properly to level the trailer and truck. Kind of looks like the ball is too high in your picture.

This will be my first truck and I plan to get a camp trailer. I speak only from the research I have been doing and not from experience but I think that would be getting to the high end of what I would be comfortable with. Mind you there is much more to consider than just the weight of the trailer. Someone else will likely have better info for you lol
