Recommended Tool Kit(s)?

That's just a starter set.

I have the same compressor. It's a great choice for light duty home jobber stuff.

 

Have to turn the power level to 2 of not it goes over 100ft/lb even with the torque stick.

 

Go ahead and buy a bunch of 10mm sockets right now to get it outta the way

Like others have said...start with a good Mechanics tool kit (Craftsman, Husky, Kobalt, etc). Be sure they include a 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" drive ratchet and wide assortment of sockets. Then get a long breaker bar, good floor jack that lifts high enough for trucks, heavy duty jack stands. Get both 3/8 and 1/2" torque wrench. A cordless impact wrench will help a lot also. I have Milwaukee and Ryobi, both are good. I used to use air tools a lot, but use my battery power cordless more now. A set of open end and ratcheting wrenches from 8mm - 19mm. (may even need 21, 22, 24mm). Start with these basics and continue to grow your collection as you need more tools for specific jobs.

I've worked on my own trucks for years, and I've been a machinist for years. One tool I'll always have in my toolbox is a large (like 12" or bigger) flathead screwdriver. A true multi tool!
I've used it as a pry bar more than I've used it as a screwdriver. Used it to reach stuff down in the engine bay, used it to lift awkward objects, used it accross the starter to jump a tractor. used it as a chisel, used it as a scraper, used it as a handle, oil filter wrench in a bind, etc...

 

I went through this today when I was replacing the grommet on the base of the antenna. Felt like I wont the lottery when I did find it.

 

What he said! Two is one, one is none, but with 10mm sockets, that goes to whole new level of never too many. Double up with drive extensions as well, in all sizes. Oh, and swivels.

 

I thought this was a good set for the money when it comes to flex head wrench sets. $59

Not much place that needed flex head ratchet wrench, it’s good for front shock tower nuts, which is 14mm and the size needed on new shocks nuts.

 

Maybe for all around use? Comparing prices of tools in general I thought it was a good deal for the money.

 

I looked at impact wrench yesterday and they aren't too bad until you have to buy the battery. Ryobi seemed to be the most reasonably priced.

 

Getting the regular with 6 points is better for breaking lost nuts and bolts, specially with an impact on the other side. and you could hit it with a hammer or double wrench

 

Ryobi just came out with bunch of power tools, it’s not bad for home use, the tools don’t cost much, but those big batteries is like $200 a piece
I always recommend what ever the battery platform the guy own already… because if they have to buy 3 batteries, it’s already $600

 

I have another newbie question:

If a set states it is SAE/MM, does that mean it's a crossover set? No need to buy separate?

 

Sae is standard ¼, 5/16, ⅜…etc mm which mean they have both

 

Yeah, just wasn't aware a set could be both SAE and metric. Such a noob I am.

When I said I was here to learn, I wasn't BS'ing. haha
