    Just saw that. Too late to cancel my order online. These were about $50 shipped and it cost $10 to return the others. I'll try calling in the morning to see if they can cancel the order. if not I guess I'll measure them when they get here too.

    In my case - not taking it off road and not even a daily driver, just wanted to be proactive - I probably should have just stuck to the ones I received from Toyota. First world problem though, so not a big deal. We'll see how things turn out!

    Do you have new lower ball joints on hand already? Could you measure how many mm deep the hole is on it?

    Two are flat on both sides and 2 have a "collar" for lack of a better term.

    "Flat" side (2) = 16.65mm
    "Collar" side (2) = 21.09mm

    The last photo shows the "collar" up close. The Toyota "green" bolt in that hole has about 7 or 8 threads left exposed.

    With the flat side being 16.65mm surely the shank is not that long. It doesn't appear to be. I haven't yet found any website that lists the shank length yet.

    Yeah if that shank were 16mm of the bolt then it would be over half way up the bolt. It seems that with the washer on the bolt theres no way that would be longer than 16mm probably at least half that. I think you should be fine

    So the ARP 663-1004 is listed as 35mm which, if it's measured like the others, would include the "shank". If so, that would still leave about 18mm of thread with the "flat" holes and about 14mm with the "collared" holes. I don't know if ours has the hardened washers that @spiker mentioned, but that would add another 1mm?

    Do I need to buy washers now? Sheesh! :confused:;)

    They are included. If you look real close you can see them. One underneath each bolt.

    So bottom line, it sounds like the ARP 663-1004 should work out okay? They're supposed to be here Friday, so I'll have a chance to measure them and post back.

    Guess I'll stick to my "Use these ARP bolts, but if they don't work for some reason, use the Toyota bolts instead" plan.

    BTW, the Toyota bolts did not come with washers so I guess they'd reuse the ones on it.

    My Toyota ones didn't come with any and I didn't use any either.
    Seems like 1004 should work yes. No promises of course as I haven't gotten my hands on anything but just from an eyeball look at the shank length compared to thread length compared to the hole depth you measured it seems right.

    I think it should work fine with the unthreaded shank, that portion will be inside the LBJ. What's really strange is that the 663-1004 bolts I bought last month were fully threaded, so ARP must have changed the design. Either that, or the pictures are old and you will actually get the fully threaded bolts - I'm really curious to find out!

    ETA: I just checked the ARP website, and while the photo shows an unthreaded portion, the dimensions suggest that it's fully threaded ("thread length = 35mm". So one or the other is wrong:

    Yes I saw that chart on another website too and thought that was weird. Yeah maybe pic is inaccurate. Seems like that would be something they want to get right.

    Received the ARP 663-1004 bolts yesterday. They don't have the shank that the online image shows... threads top to bottom. They appear to measure exactly 35mm per the description. (My measurement's a little off due to the shrink wrap).

    Here are comparison photos with the Toyota 90080-10066 bolts. Seems like with the hardened washers in place, they should be just about Goldilocks, perhaps just a tad longer?

    Got my bolts installed. They work perfect with washers. Used a bit of blue thread-locker as well. Just took out one bolt at a time and replaced. No shank on my bolts either.

    Terrific news Nick! Thanks for posting. In the end I decided to have a bunch of stuff done on ours including replacing the timing belt, water pump, etc. so I'm taking it in on the 21st to have the LBJ's and CV axles replaced all at the same time. My wallet's gonna sting, but when all is said and done I'll have some peace of mind that everything's right, has a warranty for a while and that my back won't be aching for a week or two. ;)

    Now go out and drive 'er! :thumbsup:

    BTW, I ran some tests on the Tundra M12 bolts as someone asked me to. The results are a little puzzling to me. If indeed the FSM torque is only 48 ft-lbs for them, then you'd have less preload (about 7,700 lbs) than you would with the M10 bolts at 59 ft-lbs (which had about 8,000 lbs). And that's two bolts vs four?

    I also did a reuse degradation study, these actually held up pretty well with reuse:

    I then tried to torque them to higher values to see what happens - the curve flattened out at only 10,000 lbs, which again is surprising because many of the M10 bolts did not flatten out until 12,000-13,000 lbs, and this one is much larger.

    Based on these results, I think you can safely torque an M12 bolt to about 80 ft-lbs, but I wouldn't go past that.

    Were these the early (00-04) or late (05-06) bolts?

    Edit: just realized it was a later M12 bolt. Which p# was tested? I think there are 3 different ones for the later model ones.
