@reywcms my next question is how did you get that video to upload to the forum? I have one I could share but I thought it had to be done via a YouTube link or similar and I’m not putting it on YouTube.

Out of curiosity, how much does a full 38 gallon tank weigh? I might have to do my run on E

How is the reliability of Harrop in comparison to Magnussen? I am not trying to set any records, but pulling a lot more weight so extra 150 horse would be helpful.

About 230lbs. But! I would advise against doing full throttle runs anywhere below 1/3 of a tank or so. While not super likely, it possible it can starve the pump when the fuel sloshes, make you go lean, and make your engine go boom aside from the poor performance.

About 250lbs. Be careful, some had issues with the fuel sloshing and starving the pump. Asking for trouble. I suggest everyone posting times with 1/2 tank or greater, we don't want anyone's engine going :boom:

The Magnusson is far more proven, but I wouldn't worry about either for reliability. I've never heard of the blower failing unless you suck something in. There is maintenance to do but it's usually around the 100k mark. I guess one reliability issue arguably is a plastic coupler that prevents shock loads on the Magnuson and they're known to wear out. Not a catastrophic failure but the blower will get loud as it develops backlash between the nose drive and the rotors.

Either way, both will supply more horsepower than the stock bottom end can handle. The harrop is theoretically more efficient and has more power potential and runs cooler. The Magnuson potentially has better response because it's spinning faster and is a smaller unit.

+1 Harrop has a long history but it is unknown what reliability impact it will have on the Tundra.

That being said, it should if anything be easier on the engine in the thought process of my pea brain so long as you keep the boost in check by using a reasonable pulley size like 80mm at sea level, 75mm at elevation. The only reason I say that is because lower IATs, and an IAT sensor reading the actual temperature of the air entering the cylinders is a slightly better recipe for longevity IMO. I also spent more money on my new Harrop than many of these thrifty used Magnuson fellas, so I’ll at least keep telling myself that.

I had the s/c on the Taco for 90k miles and no issues before I traded it for the Tundra. Well, the only thing we did find out over on the tacomaworld forum was that the heater hose clamp at the drivers side firewall was rubbing and pitting the aluminum housing of the Magnusun. I don't think anyone had an actual hole, but it was obvious when running your hand over the housing back there.

Well I had to go into the office today for a meeting, so I figured after having the Dragy for 3 weeks now it was time to try it out. I'm not going to post my 1 timeslip that I saved because it's embarrassing (sorry team Mag, I'll redeem myself later). I need to find a quiet place to get a few runs in and find the best way to launch. First attempt was in 2wd with nannies off and I just sat there for a good amount of time with the tires spinning before I even started to get traction and move. I cancelled that run before ever hitting 60 due to the bad launch. Second attempt I had to quit as well. I tried a third launch in 2wd with the nannies turned on and when they kicked in shortly after flooring it power was held back for what seemed like almost 1.5 secs before it started to go and that run came in at 7.72s. I need to head out where it's quieter and easier to make some pulls which is what I had to do for my remote tuning pulls. Is the consensus that we should be launching in 4wd? I would imagine so...nannies on or off? Hope to get some better runs in maybe over the weekend.

Thanks for the Vimeo tip @reywcms. Here is one I had recorded back in March on a closed course, obviously. This was Pre Dragy era, and I still had the larger and heavier 34s on at the time. Not sure if I had the cap on for this one or not. I want to say it was just before I got it, but did have a 3/4 tank of gas.

    Justin from OTT explaining tings

"Correct. You answered my question I think! Lets see if I understand you now . So there is a constant base line, and the tune would be the programming you add on top of the base line? Lamens terms of course. Not trying to take anything away from the design.
Does ignition timings etc have provisions for when under heavy load (tow) or is it same same whilst towing?
I ask only because my butt dyno and right foot tell me that toyota seems to understand that at least from the factory because my 2016 MT doesn't lug or chug in lower RPM and when towing 3500++. It's actually nice lol. I swear it knows!
Done alot of reading on here over the years on the MT and some will say it's the Atkinson Cycle BS that is causing the initial hesitation or lugging during MT shifts. Unless you are hammering on it."

Sort of correct. There is a constant baseline, but the tuning we do is not "on top of" the baseline. We rewrite the baseline to our specific values which are largely derived from OEM values. Just massaged where we felt necessary. So think of it as an "enhanced" OEM mapping. The factory mapping strategy working in combination with the adaptive knock strategy gives the truck a range of ignition timing it can run for any given RPM/Load. The system is very dynamic in that it's always adjusting to find the optimal setting within the allowable range. Things like towing heavy loads, changes in fuel quality/ethanol content, heat saturation, among many other variables can affect where in that range the truck will run.

In your specific question about towing, there's not a towing specific timing map per say, but towing will likely put the truck into areas of the ignition map it may not see during normal operation/day-to-day use. These areas are specifically mapped according to the conditions the engine sees during that RPM/Load and with input from the knock control system, the truck will be able to calculate what the optimum advance should be. So in a sense it can run different ignition advance values while towing compared to normal driving, but it's not because the ECU knows it's towing a load, it's working within the defined parameters of existing mapping based off the sensor inputs it's receiving from the engine.

The example of your MT towing the 3500+ load at lower RPM is a good example. In this instance you're going to see much higher engine load in the manual than you would in an auto in this scenario. The load on the engine puts the engine in a state where it can produce more torque than it could at lower load. As you mentioned it's very much due to the Atkinson Cycle operation during low RPM/Load conditions. So you're spot on there.

Thanks it’s the Cravenspeed mount. I would have preferred them on the pillar but not many people make them due to the side curtain airbags. Ortiz customs does but it’s at least double the price.

Maggies is as OEM as it gets, it should be able to hit reliable 600whp with appropriate fuel, and cooling, where Harrops is larger and runs at lower temp at similar CFM.

E46 M3 @ 1/4 is an ego bruiser , be prepare for 15s pass on first few tries and tears coming down your cheeks.

    This is how I feel.

That is actually a good call, I'm putting bags on next week, wonder if running slight inflated helps.

Yep! Lol . I used to have 2 37 spare tires lol. Tuner came by today to flash my ECU so I can drive her when we Dyno Tune her. Wow! Smaller pulley, bigger injectors and the long tube headers sure made a noticeable difference from my previous stage 1. She’s gonna sound hella good too when riding them whoops lol
