Anyone using a kn drop in air filter? The one that goes in the box? Not the cold air one. Do you see a differance? Do you like it?

    It's good
Zero performance improvement and could mess your 02 sensors.

I think you talking about mass air flow, O2 sensors are way too far down the road...
All TRD filter or CAI use K&N...lol

I had K/N on a 77 and it made sense. But if you think you are gaining airflow with an oiled filter, I wonder. And the recharge kits are $. Paper for me going forward.

As stated hundreds of times before, a K&N:

    Will not:
    Increase HP.
    Increase MPG.

    Will:
    Increase noise.
Filter less effectively, especially in dusty conditions.
Possibly screw up the MAF sensor.

If you want a washable/reusable filter the AFE Dryflow filters do not use oil and are high quality. Don’t expect anything other than it being washable though as far as noticeable benefits.

Thanks ,from reading multiple responses ,I will not get the KN filter
I live in a area where there are some hills and sometimes it seems like I really have to push the pedal going up a hill and with 381 hp that should not be the case , I only have 19000 miles and they said how fast these trucks are but I don't see it.

Have you removed the airfilter to make sure there isn't a box of rodents nest under the filter?

I use the Tow/Haul when I drive really hilly roads. It is easier to maintain speed with it on.

That’s from the weight of the truck. Toyota makes a washable and oilable TRD filter. They even sell a cleaning and oil kit for it. I have one and clean it every 6 mo when I change the oil, but it’s never really that dirty. You could also look in to the SABM (stock air box mod). Search this site for it.

I'll find the pics today and post them. I ran a K&N in my 2013. I started getting a surging idle after 10 or 12K miles with it. I looked at the throttle body plate and it was pretty nasty. I assume from the oil in the filter. I have one in my 2020 with 22K on it and no issues. I may pull the intake and look at the plate to see what it looks like. I have been interested in the AFE Pro Dry S filters for a while now. I may just order one.

I have the AFE oiled high flow air filter, it’s been in the truck for 50,000+ miles, I got this over the K&N because it’s a 5 layer, I mostly drive city/country roads, no issues with dirt/dust getting by, I clean it every 10k just because I keep all my things clean. I did take out the charcoal filter that is attached to the top of the air box. I may make more induction noise but I have a DD exhaust which drowns that out. I also added the TRD air flow accelerator.

Bought my first K&N in 1972. Never have had an issue. Ever. Not even in dusty/sandy conditions. Never bought one to gain hp although there are proven minor hp gains at relatively high rpms. It's reusable. Oil/cleaning kit will last for quite some time. Very little oil is used. I still have my K&N reload kit that I bought 16 years ago. It has saved me money over the long run easy.. Over oiling is usually the cause of MAF issues. Haven't had that problem. I check MAF and throttle body annually anyways. The 5 layer oiled aFe would be a great option. Take a look at the TRD oiled filter. Identical to the K&N but a different color. Not a coincidence. Oiled filters are ubiquitous all over the world. For good reason. I used K&N oiled foam filters on my dirt bikes back in day. On dusty summer dirt Oregon logging roads and running the dunes. We all did.

As stated above by Mr Wolf, I have had K&N's since I started driving in 1976. Never an issue. I have a Tundra drop in taking up space in my garage since AFE finally delivered my 12 month wait full cai.

It’s their factory tune making it feel you have to push the paddle hard, turn on tow haul mod and you will see the true power of the engine…lol

K&N finally came out with a drop in for my Frontier. I need to check aFe and see if they have an oiled filter for the new Frontier.

If you order an aFE that is not really in stock, be prepared for delays, they have severe supply chain issues.

This is what I got out of all the responses, and thank you for all the advice
First, I'm not going with the k n air filter cause I think it will let more particles threw. I could be wrong( it won't be the first time) and I'm kind of happy the way it performs ,
Second. I was also thinking about a nest or blockage in the air filter dam caused by rodents, cause I leave my truck parked for some time. Something to look at.
Three, the tow mode is quicker on the pedal but can you drive it in how mode all the time?
But I will check the air filter first. .
Thanks. Oh and Don't buy after market black overlays. They suck. Not related to this subject just information.
Ok I just checked the air filter and there's no blockage no rodents so that is a good thing
