After reading over the repair procedure.....

Even though I have the pro leds and ihacker harness my dealer shop manager was being insistent on getting the recall done and said it will keep showing up in his system until I do. Told him no thanks nicely a few times and then said I'd call when I had time, again to be nice.

I was in there last week for ToyotaCare service and declined the recall work for harness since I have LED lights now. The service lady seemed relieved and says it takes 2-3 hours depending on who is tasked with harness splicing/repair. No hard sell for me.

They are denying claims left and right. The last letter from June said that I didn't meet the reimbursement criteria. No idea wtf that is. I think it's their way to deny it if they didn't do the install of the leds. I still have one reference number open, but she said that they link together if more than one claim is submitted. Friday she said she put in an email to the reimbursement department and that she will call when they get back to her. I won't hold my breath because customer service sucks everywhere.

I received my $688 check from Toyota earlier this week. I bought the LED’s in April of this year and submitted the claim in the middle of May. I’m not exactly sure when I received the recall notice, whether it was before or after buying/claiming anything. I just saw this thread a while back and decided to see if it works.

I didn’t claim the ihacker harness in my reimbursement claim, now that I know, I would have.

Yeah I think they have no idea what they are doing. You got lucky because the reimbursement was only applicable to purchases prior to the recall which makes no sense at all. They have no consistency at all with claims submitted.

Nice , I got reimbursed for the headlights and the harness too . I did install it myself and sent them picture of the truck …
I have a dealer visit due and will ask them to skip the recall since I have the led now … hope they won’t make a big deal of it , not sure what to expect

Something is not adding up , why would they approve some and deny others ? They must have a procedure they follow or at least you would think so .
I know yours were not factory led , is it possible this may be the reason ?? Were the ones purchased by marshmallow also factory ? How much is the total amount you asked them for ?

I'm not sure what they are doing but I have talked to them twice in the last week. I politely told them that there is no consistency with the process. They keep telling me that my claims all link together and that it was denied in June. I told her the one in June was closed by them because they said that claims had to be resubmitted after the remedy was released. As far as denial, they don't explain why. They just state that you don't meet the recall requirements. She sent an email to the reimbursement department and is waiting for a response from them. Aggravation at its finest.

I just found out that my claim was never sent over to the reimbursement office. It will be sent over to them today. I just had a 30 minute phone call with a senior supervisor. He said that my documents were received but the file was never sent. He also said I should hear something back in about a week or week and a half. @pursuit2550

What's the consensus now? I've just discovered this thread as I want to upgrade to Pro lights anyway in my '21. I am covered by the recall.

Should I have the harness 'remedy' first, then install Pro lights, or install Pro lights and skip the remedy?

I'm aware I won't get reimbursed for the lights, but just wondering what the consensus is on having the harness remedy if I'm going to upgrade?

They won't reimburse any purchases after Sept 2021 when the recall was issued.

Yeah, edited my post to say I know I won't get reimbursed. But wondering if I should do the remedy before installing Pro lights, or just leave the harness alone?

If you are installing the Pro leds then I would leave it as is. It wouldn't be an issue until you sell the truck if you ever do.

I got my check in the mail today! Took about 6 weeks to process and there was no back and forth with Toyota after I submitted (other than receiving the check). Thx so much for this thread EarlyRiser. Hit me up if you're ever in Dallas and I will buy you a beer

Hopefully I will get one in a few weeks. It has been a royal pita because there communication sucks. I found out 2 weeks ago that mine never got sent o er the the reimbursement department after I sent my documents in. I put Morimotos in mine. Did you do the install yourself?

Nice man , same for me , payed also the harness.
Took the truck last day to dealer for regular maintenance and I asked them to waive the recall since no longer needed . Looks like they reached out to Toyota on this to see if they allow the waiver and waiting for an answer . I showed the dealer the check from Toyota and all so hopefully they will just waive the recall , Toyota were asking about the harness based on what dealer told me … we shell see what they say

It is good to hear about successful claims. I’ve learned a ton from the site and happy I was able to help some other members out.

Unexpected as it is, I submitted for a 3rd time after being denied a few weeks ago. Check showed up in the mail today. I purchased my lights after the recall was sent out. Good little surprise.

So I had the recall work done, and all they did was to reduce the brightness of the lo beams (and most likely hi as well). Now my truck is dangerous to drive with the hi beams on. It reduces my short range illumination so much that I can't see the white line on the edge of the road and 5-20' in front is completely black.

If I wanted to upgrade to the LEDs, do I need to have that recall work reversed? And do you think Toyota would reimburse me for the lights, as the recall workaround makes my truck dangerous?

They didn't reduce the brightness. They installed relays.

I changed mine long time and got reimbursed for the harness and factory led headlights.
Last month took truck to dealer for service and told me it has the recall , I told them it is already taken care of as I have led lights now and Toyota already reimbursed me for it. They opened a case with Toyota and they said they still need to change the harness . I told the dealer to not touch it since if they do the iharness will no longer work .
Dealer put a note in their system about it and that is it .

seems to me that Toyota recall and reimbursement departments are not in sync.

I kept a copy of the check from Toyota in case something came up in the future …
