Given the vast number of Q/C problems, a new generation engine, more technology than ever before, will most of you plan on keeping your 2022 indefinitely (foreseeable future)?
Or will most of you hedge your bets and keep for 6-18 months and get rid of it prior to giving it time to develop more significant problems? I'm on the fence, there's certainly things I like and dislike about the truck, but it has certainly grown on me. Though historically, I'd never buy first generation of a revamped vehicle, yet I've bought two in the last two years, and don't want to get rid of either (22 Tundra and 21 Raptor). Longevity is certainly a concern for me.

    Thoughts?

I still have under 1000kms on mine, so it hasn't been a very long time for me to decide. So far though, I see no reason to get rid of it. The QC on my truck is just fine, though it's a June build so they likely got some stuff squared away compared to the earlier builds.

My only real issue so far is the Toyota Connected Services app. It took a nearly 1 hour phone call with the provider to get it to connect and I still don't have full use of the app. It still says Remote Activation Is Pending and although it apparently takes up to 24 hours, it's been over a week and I can't remote start my truck. All I get is door open or door unlocked alerts, can see my mileage, fuel level and tire pressures. The app is also clunky and intrusive with constant pop ups and inane alerts. At this point, I'm almost ready to cancel the app and have an aftermarket remote start installed.

I don’t see me getting rid of mine anytime soon. Currently owning it for 6 months and almost at 9000 miles, I don’t see any reason to get rid of it. I love the tech in this truck. Coming from a 2015 tundra, considered getting a 2021, but I couldn’t justify paying almost same price for a 2022 for used car. The 3G is just more modern. All the cameras and 14” screen is the amazing. My iPhone fully integrated with the car, I just leave the phone and keys in pocket and can do everything through truck.

The only issue I had so far was the rear door window seals peeling up but has been fixed by dealer and the incorrectly installed wiper arm from day 1, also fixed. QC stuff. My second 3g tundra has none of this issue. 4 months different build date.

Only thing I would consider getting rid of my 3G is if I can trade up to a 3G TRD Pro.

Unfortunaetly for me, I am getting rid of mine, 6 weeks in my ownership and approx 800miles. The only reason is the lack of QC (see my post) and obviously the mechanical issue I had at 700miles (see my post). The truck has been at the dealer for 3 weeks now and counting.

That being said, I do still believe that this is a great truck, maybe I got a "Friday build" or the QC was just not done on it.

Thankfully, I still have my original order on-going and hope to see that truck in the next couple months. In the meantime, I'm letting this one go, and I'll wait for the '23

5,500 miles in with no problems at all. Love the truck and barring any unforeseen advancements, I convince myself I can’t live without, or emerging problems I’ll have it a while.

I wouldn't trade mine for anything. I know any QC issues will be taken care of and not abandoned like other manufacturers.

Probably no consolation, but I think the clunky connected service problems are a Toyota thing not directly related to the 3G Tundra. It took over 6 months to get our 2020 ES 350 connected correctly. I did give up for a few months because I got worn out dealing with it.

I drove across 2 states prepared to sell my 22 for a 2019 pro. When I test drove the 19, it was immediately apparent I was going to regret selling my 22. All of the tech and features, though new and untested for reliability, are big improvements over the last gen. Needless to say, I backed out of the 19.

I've had my share of problems but plan to keep it 3-4 years ....unless something major happens. I'd assume my problems have pretty much settled (knock on wood). All in all, I think the truck is great; there isn't a bell or whistle I could want in another truck. If I was to sell it, there isn't a replacement truck around with the same features, ride, etc near the price range.

The only reason I want it is for the remote start. The non-app remote start has a pathetically short range.

fun fact: you can set up Siri voice activation in the Toyota app to start the truck: "Hey Siri, start my toyota".

I'm keeping mine until the wheels fall off.

I'm not going through the "pain & suffering" of working out all the bugs only to hand off a trouble-free truck to someone else. hahaha

I have had mine a month, have 2000 miles on it, so far its been great.

Power wise, sorry but this 3.5 twin turbo is smoother and out performs the 5.7. This from a guy who had 3 tundras with the 5.7 and one with the 4.6

Highway ride is smooth as glass.

Acceleration is smooth and fluid. I love the whistle when the boost kicks in and off you go, very little if any turbo lag.

Interior layout is as good as the previous gens, it is narrower, but keep in mind its sharing a frame with the seqouia and 4 runner.

Over all I like the truck, yes it has some quirks but I believe most if not all of the major issues have been worked out.

Will I keep it, well I am looking for a crew max, but only because the double cab is a little tight for my liking, but it will be at least a year before I trade this one off.

I have to agree with the motor being a major upgrade over the V8. I had a 2013 with the V8 and the sound is nice, and it's a proven, very reliable platform. But this TTV6 is lighter and has better power band/delivery. I'm sure it will have it's quirks like early model ecoboosts, but in a few years it'll be great (if it isn't already).

tbd. my original plan was to ride my 22 platinum out for 1-2 yrs then move to a hybrid for the pwr/torque. i come from (and still have) a supercharged 08. i don't tow really at all, maybe once every few year or so, and am realizing after 5k+ miles i haven't missed the pwr/torque as i do have a gt car to give me the fix or just take out the 08.

Depends on my work schedule. In the past I have always kept my vehicles until they hit between 150-200k miles which has been 4-5 years. Now I work from home a lot more than driving in to the office so I might get 6-8 years before I hit my arbitrary mileage limit.

My Pro is a 7/27 build with no recalls/bulletins/holds after build. So, I’m hoping that most of the big stuff has been worked out. I’m ok with small stuff and plan to keep this rig a while unless there are serious improvements made in a few years. I’m hoping whatever features are implemented in year 2/3/4 can be retrofitted back to our 1st year. The truck segment is CRAZY competitive and advancements seem to be happening as quickly as Samsung puts out new phones.

By the way, very impressive garage. The R37 is a hot piece and I just traded my 1 month old Capstone on a TRD Pro. The Cap is a very nice ride.

I always plan on keeping a car when I first buy it but stuff happens. Been buying a new vehicle every 1 1/1-2 years since 2008. I've been wanting a new 1/2 ton truck for a couple years and hoping the Tundra suits all my needs and sticks around a while.

Keeping it unless I get a sweet deal on a pro that I can’t resist (and that probably unlikely or unlikely this year).

However by the time I mod to where I want it the Pro craving may be a passing thing…will see how it goes.

Third reason is I don’t really have another option (fall back plan) so she stays.

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
I don’t plan on getting rid of the 2022. With this being my 4th Tundra. The last time I ordered a Tundra was the 1st year of the Tundra. 2000 model year. Since then I’ve purchased a 2008 and kept it for 9 years until I purchased a 2017 Tundra. I always buy because I put anywhere from 100,000 to 150,000 miles on the Tundra’s. The past Tundra’s have all been extremely reliable and the resale value has been awesome.
By far the 2022 Tundra in my opinion is the best one! It’s very refined, I enjoy all the tech and the drive quality is awesome. It’s very fast, faster off the line than the 5.7 V8. Sure it’s a brand new design and engine. Since I typically put high miles on the Tundra I always purchase the extended warranty which is a huge peace of mind for me.

A few beefs with my 2022 1794 but not many now at 15,000 miles, zero shop time, am more likely to get a 23 ordered to do a flip before manufacturers catch up.

7000 miles and zero issues. The only gripe I had was the crappy stock tires, old man ride height, and lack of a true front bumper and tow hooks. The first two of those issues are already dealt with and I got shipping confirmation on my CBI bumper today.
Im done with domestic 3/4 and 1ton diesels. No more towing big ass trailers and heavy loads, so Im only in the 1/2 ton market these days. I have a Cybertruck reserved for around 2024 (best current estimate) which I may flip or may keep, but unless I get a great deal on a Raptor R between now and then (highly doubtful) I don’t anticipate getting rid of this bright orange bastard anytime soon.

I’m debating selling mine. I love the truck overall. However I bought it when I was living in coastal NC with an hour commute to work.

A relocation to the SF Bay Area has me second guessing needing it. Cost of living, ownership etc… Had a paid off ‘17 Tacoma and now I find myself wishing I hadn’t done the trade. However, at the time of purchase, a cross country move wasn’t on the horizon. We’ll see.

17,000 miles in I’m still impressed. Maybe would go for the OffRoad suspension instead of the air suspension with these California Roads…

Do you have the rear air suspension? Those are the only guys I’ve heard complain about it being bouncy, everyone else says they ride really smooth…
