I have an intermittent dash noise that seems to be coming from the gauge cluster, or perhaps the steering column. Can't seem to figure out what is causing it. It only happened at about 1500 to 1800 RPM, and usually when the engine is not under power or accelerating. Also its seems to occur more often once the engine has warmed up, or after driving for 15 minutes. Thoughts?

Sounds like a metallic vibration. Like a thin metal shield or something. My 4cyl car in high school would do this at 1800-2200 or so rpm because of the engine vibrations being produced.

I realize this is an old post. But I am having the exact same issue/noise. This is the first time I have run into someone else with a very similar sound. Was wondering if this was ever resolved. I took mine into the dealership once, but of course the noise stopped. It is not consistent 100% of the time which makes it very frustrating. It doesn't make the noise while going over bumps, only that certain rpm range. Almost sounds like a bolt or screw is loose somewhere. I have been doing everything I can to figure it out myself. I'm afraid if I take it back to the dealer they will rip everything apart which in turn will cause more rattles. Trying to just live with it but it does drive me nuts when I think about it, especially for the fact that its a $50k vehicle.

Not saying this is the fix, but if you use the sunglasses compartment in the upper console you might check that, my sunglasses would resonate again the hard plastic and sounds just like that

Take all personal stuff big and small out to see if it goes away. Various items stored in different places in vehicles can make some really odd sounds if they vibrate.

I have what sounds like a metallic or hard plastic vibration at higher RPM’s as I accelerate. It sounds like it’s coming from above the gauge cluster, near the windshield driver side. Not sure if it’s inside the dash or at the surface. I hate it and it only started a few months ago.

I’ve noticed this on my truck recently. It’s been nearly a year and 26k miles since I’ve owned it and I haven’t heard this noise until about a month ago. The sound reminds me of a noisy speedometer cable I had in my 84 Tercel.

Im beginning to think everyone has this issue but they arent noticing because of their music or they dont hit the specific rpm range. Looks to be 1800ish going 30ish mph. Once you notice it though its hard to unnotice it.

Anyone have any luck resolving this issue? It’s become more constant as the weather warms up.

I feel like mine is getting worse. Even my wife asked what the noise was when she was in the truck. Its somewhere in the dash...so confusing how it only happens at certain RPM/MPH range and accelerator is pushed.

Took my truck in today as it had a parking support brake malfunction error and check engine alert. In speaking to the service department I explained the dash rattle issue as well and provided a video. The error / alerts were apparently a bad o2 sensor which is fixed. As for the rattle they have had two techs working on it most of the day and are keeping it over night to continue work tomorrow. I will update with more information tomorrow.

The rattle was the brake booster line rubbing against the AC line. Drove 10 miles back to work rattle free.

Anyone else have dash/steering column rattle? I told my dealership about the brake booster line, they claim they checked and that wasn’t the issue.

my noise only happens 32-38mph sounds like hard plastic rhythmic noise

This is literally the only issue I have with my truck...just started ~7000 miles into ownership. Like others above, happens most at lower speeds/rps while decelerating/braking but can be JUST barely heard above the wind-noise at speed. Anyone else have luck aside from the brake booster line suggestion?

Wanting to keep this post alive as I've been trying to find the problem for quite some time. My dealer service advisor (and team) have been great at working with me to try to find it but haven't had luck. They have added insulation to the dash area and replaced a steering cable but the noise keeps coming back. They even gave me different tires to try for a while. Interestingly that resulted in a different frequency vibration. Each time the sound comes back after they've tried to eliminate it, I have sent them a video with the noise that they in turn send to toyota HQ. HQ is tending to blame the tires and/or lift. The service advisors found this post. I encourage anyone with this issue to make a video, provide it to the dealer and ask them to engage a regional Toyota Field Specialist. I'm tired of my $75K truck sounding like a 1980 Gremlin

Mine is the u-joint at the top of the steering shaft. Initially mine started at ~45km/hr coasting into a red light or stop sign etc. Then started at 80-105 km/hr. If it was cold out it wouldn't do it until I drove it for ~20min. Went around and around with dealership, they replaced steering column then steering shaft, said it was fixed but it wasn't. Then they put on factory wheels/tires and the noise went away. I have 275/70r18 toyo AT3's and +20 offset wheels installed. I actually bought someone's takeoff OEM wheels w/tires and drove it for a few weeks to make sure it was the wheels/tires and still no sound. They blamed bad tire rotation (which was part of their service), there was camber wear and relatively bad heal/toe(saw tooth) wear. I have ~80000km on my truck and only now can I start to feel it in the steering wheel.

If you take some dash pieces off, loosen the 2 big bolts in the steering column and the big bolt attaching the steering shaft to the steering column and push on the u joint when its making the noise you can make it go away. Also if you hold the steering shaft you can feel it vibrating a lot, and not that much in the steering wheel. I think its a tire balance issue more than the tread issue, I might actually get mine re-balanced to see what happens before I get new tires and rotate myself every 5000miles.
    IMG_7348.jpg

Here's my video and the sound at 80km/hr is more intense than at ~45km/hr.

I bought chassis ear phones off Amazon, if you or the dealer attaches to the steel brackets attached to the dash bar, the rattle should blow up in the headphones. You don't need to take the whole dash out, just get behind the dash cluster. I thought I was chasing a broken weld or who knows what so the whole dash came out. The felt/insulation in the picture was the dealers attempt to dampen the noise. Still not totally convinced its just the tires, feel like there might be something else going on between the tires and steering shaft u-joint. Try new tires, with alignment from reputable shop while I still have extended warranty and see if it continues.

My advice would be to push back should the dealership or Toyota tell you its the fault of the tires. It should be assumed that these trucks would be used with aggressive tires. Toyota wouldn't expect the factory tires to last forever and that a customer would only use their suggested tires. There are tons of tundras out there that have aggressive tires and not all of them have this issue. This is an issue toyota needs to own and address.

Same vibration rattle and somewhere on this forum I found a post that lead me in what I hope is the right direction. The noise sounds like it is coming from just behind the big screen. I was inconsistently getting it at various RPMs and today I really noticed it when some motorcycles passes.

I saw a post (that I can't find) that showed some foam between the rear view mirror post and the plastic housing that holds all the fancy electronics. So, I went to look... and the little door fell off. I put it back, tapped on it and got the exact noise. I tried a few things and ultimately used a little tessa tape over the clips and this seems to have solved it. I also wedged a little foam tape along the edge of the main plastic cover. After a test drive, it is gone after being there all day today.

Shim piece that fell out (arrow) and some foam to stiffen it all up. Foam is a work in progress, came from a new gasket for smoker.
Tapping right edge of the plastic box reproduced the rattle sound. It stopped after the tape shim.
    IMG_4586.jpg

Main tape shims. "Clips" are junk. I also put some along edges, but tried to keep hidden.
    IMG_4589.jpg

Slide it back in. Tilting the mirror down made it easy.

~7,500 on a '24 with an October build date.
