My truck is finally being painted. The front roof and back of cab anyway...I've looked around on the interwebs and it seems theres all sorts of waiting times.
Question is how long after paint does one have to wait to polish etc. And coat a vehicle? Are there any autobody techs/painters here?

Talk with the company that is panting your truck. It varies some depending on the paints used and method applied. Some say 48 hours minimum others recommend like 2 weeks.

I would ask the shop doing the work. When I’ve had work done, I have always been told 90 days.

New to the forum here but I am a painter it’s what I do for the last 20 years of my life do yourself a favor and wait 3 months even if it’s water based paint the shop is using your clear coat will be solvent based and that needs time to breath and cure the min you start sealing that up is when die back and other things start happening I spray ppg water and have also sprayed spies hecker and it’s the same for all of them, trust me just wait ! Hope that helps

Yeah, I figured as much. Before @Ginsterkev chimed in I was just gonna call and ask. But him being a painter and his response sounded solid and logical. The guy that did the work said he'd wait atleast a month when I picked it up yesterday. I figure wtf is another 2 after that. Better to be safe than sorry. Guess this way I have more time to figure out which coating I wanna try out. Leaning towards Undrdog because it seems so user friendly but I'm also trying to find a way to mitigate the risk of the rock chips that just got removed....I don't know if the "hardness" of any coatings will even help that. PPF on the front is an option but I'm gonna need some practice prior to that whole hood and bumper.

We tell all our customers 90 days to be safe infact when we are working on lot of these cars they have factory installed PPF on the dog legs and bedsides and lower doors and fenders and we do not put it back on we usually tell them to come back and we will take care of it when the paint has exhausted all of its solvents

Coatings will not help with rock chips. PPF is the only way.
