I didn’t even think about having a reverse rated WDH… But now that I think about it, the one we used when I was a kid would sometimes give us fits when backing up. Now I use an Andersen Weight Distributing Hitch and it is super smooth with zero sway. Smoothest WDH I’ve used and hardly any porpoising if at all. Its also easier to adjust, IMO.

This is a true chain WDH and is made by Andersen. It is sway control, WDH and allows for full turning in reverse. I personally have one and I like it on anything except single axle trailers. In my opinion, the design creates more bounce with a single axle.

Yup I always take the sway control when backing up, I don't ever take of the bars though and don't feel any binding I will at some point replace the system but I'm not sure what I would get since up to now I haven't had any issues with it and I've driven at the very least 10k miles on them

Yes, I couple the ball and lock it them raise the truck and trailer about 5” so I can easily attach the bars then lower the trailer putting the weight on the hitch.

I didn’t read the whole thread. But I wouldn’t bother with a WDH with a 3-4000 pound trailer.

 

Without out the WDH, the truck squats and the ride is horrible.

 

Sounds like a trailer without enough tongue weight. My dad’s flatbed does the same thing when empty. Add weight to the front and it rides great.

He uses a wdh to smooth out the ride. It helps but weight on the front is key.

 

I’d try 35 psi in the trailer tires. I’m assuming they are load range C in either 215/75R14 or 215/75R15, are are rated to carry at least 1750 lbs each at 50 psi max pressure. Which means inflating to 50 psi max would be correct if your trailer axle weight was 7K lbs. You’re just over half of that.

Is your trailer leaf sprung? Not many tandem RV’s use torsion axles that I’ve seen.

 

@Doug2000 Sorry if I missed this if it's been covered but are your rear shocks on the truck doing their job?

I can get into an abbreviated situation you type of but only one one particular bridge in Louisiana only because of the spacing of the expansion joints on the road surface. My truck is less than one year old with the friction type Fastway E2 WDH.

You have done an impressive job setting up your combo. Very impressive.

 

The truck is a 2017 with only 41,000km. The suspension is good.

I'm leaning to increasing the tire pressures to see what happens.
