What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I have a rear sway in on mine, aftermarket. No idea what it does or if I want it

 

Nah, its ladder bars or traction bars limit limit wheel hop/axle wrap.

Also good for towing.

 

I did manage to get my 4 pin connected and powered up today. Still need to zip tie it and test to confirm it's working right. Also redid the big bolts attaching the bumper so other than figuring out the flip up plate I'm capable of towing.

Still need to do a legit 7 pin and the brake controller though.

Totally forgot to ask, did you go with the Master 'gaiters model?

I've been debating it, but then I've got to disassemble and paint it. Then hope my paint job didn't suck and won't be flaking or peeling 6mos down the road.

The only thing that bugs me about it is, I actually pop my tailgate off a couple times a year. The lack of "clean" weatherproof connector + no-wire-touching-metal-holes harshes my OCD's buzz.

Curious more than anything, what did retrofitting rear entail?

 

@shifty` , I’d be happy to prep your masterbater tailgate handle for quick disconnect now that I’ve installed mine. I intend to do that on my own truck once I have a chance. On the bench it should be easy, I have all the goodies. Definitely something I’d be happy to do for you.

 

I run mine through the square spare tire hole. Haven’t found a grommet for that yet but I haven’t tried my 3rd gen grommet to see if it might fit. It’s not too bad loose in that spot right now. Maybe not cosmetically perfect but not bad. Plenty of length on the RCA to chew a little inside the tailgate, this allowing the camera to be swapped easily with a replacement.

 

Welding brackets to my diff housing for the bar itself and to my frame for the end links.

 

De-badging...I bought some cans of Plasti Dip, but after some thought it seemed easier (and nicer looking, IMHO) to just remove them entirely. I used fishing line to saw them off (it was ~ 130 degrees yesterday, so no neat for a heat gun!), then scraped away the biggest chunks of sticky foam with wooden sticks (you can see that most of the sticky foamy stuff stayed on the truck, not the badges). A 3M Eraser Wheel to get most everything off, followed by Goo Gone and Turtle Wax Sticker Remover. I'll post some pics of the finished job after I finish.

 

+1 for that damn 3m eraser. Only way i got the Body Moulding goo off after 20 years of baking on in the AZ sun. MEK and other assorted solvents had nothing on that eraser

I had so many hard baked chunks and stuff that wd40, goof off, citrus oil, etc all just made a gummy mess while taking off very small amounts with massive effort (multiple hours multiple days trying all the tricks, sticks, solvents, etc) and that was not caring about paint since I was prepping to line it anyway so i wasnt being gentle even. Eraser on a drill had entire truck done in 15 minutes.

Momma decided to join me as it was her 1st "day trip" since knee surgery and I will tell you , these Extra cabs beat the Taco extra cabs hands down those "Suicide Doors" are the Bomb

Our "4-Wheelie walker" fit perfectly behind the passenger seat once I flipped up the bottom cushion and she found it easier to get in & out of the Tundra than her Corolla

And the longer lengths of finish board actually "FIT" in the bed

Changed out a ball joint now I'm working on how to mount this fan.

It’s a piece of 1 by from a pallet, it’s semi safe….

 

So I wanted to support all four corners so the fan can't flop around and send the blades into the condenser. This brace is bolted to the sub frame in two spots. Result is looking good so far.

 

She’s deep!!! I feel like I have enough rigidity on the center, I’m mounting behind that pillar so it’s flat and sturdy. And the right side at least has the top close enough to be solid, and the bottom will hopefully be carried by the strength of the aluminum, tactical weight reduction

 

@FrenchToasty Does the extra fan in front of the condenser help with the AC blowing cold on startup on the morning?

 

I am using tabs on the back of the center pillar. I don't have a sheet of anything to do like you did on the left side plus my fan actually is a little bigger than yours

 

Haha yeah on “cold mornings”
I’ve charged my AC per weight and it wants to trip on hi head when at a light when it’s hot, so I had to “recover” some Freon so it would stop doing that, thus reducing my cooling capacity
