3rd Gen Suspension Lift - MEGA THREAD

Just to baseline: The spring rate is the spring rate regardless of the vehicle it's on. The only difference is how that vehicle is affected.

As I understand it, spring rate is the amount of weight required for 1 inch of spring compression. 2 springs at 227 lbs would (I believe) require 454 lbs of payload to compress the springs roughly 1". That payload # also includes the weight of everything above the spring including the weight of the bed itself.

 

It means with a 227 lbs load the spring will compress by an inch. You obviously have 2 rear springs (1 on each side), so it would take about 450-460 lbs to compress them by an inch or the rear end of your truck to sag by an inch. I suppose s 227 lbs spring rate is fine.

 

The spring rate of the C59-167 (2") and the C59-169 (2.5") are the same, I believe. I think the only variable between the 2 springs is the spring height itself. Both are reported to work on the MY22 Tundra, though it seems the 167 is the more popular option people are going with.

Ok, so for me I HATE the classic Tundra sag so I’d go for the 169 and 2.5”. I understood leaf springs better and had Deaver Stage 2’s on my Tacoma which worked well. Thanks for the clarification.

Any idea what the stock spring rates are?

 

No clue on the stock spring height and rate TBH. Just a guess, I imagine it's similar to the Ram spring rate. Rams are the only other trucks (other than the Raptor, I think) that run rear coils. Everyone else is still running rear leafs.

And, I completely feel you. I'm used to the days of add-a-leaf, HD rear leaf springs, or building bastard packs from the junkyard. Rear coils have been a little of learning for me since I've been planning my build.

Lifted 2 wheel drives are just dumb

 

90% of desert prerunners would whole heartedly disagree with you. Desert race trucks are lifted & most of them are 2WD.

Lifting a truck isn't always about rock crawling and overlanding. There are other types of "off roading" out there.

Just playing devil's advocate. Living in the desert and seeing these race trucks is pretty cool.

 

Well aware of the pre runner set ups- those are completely different animals vs what the vast majority of lifted 2wd’s on the street are.

 

A large majority of lifted 4WDs will never leave the pavement in their life time either.

Very true, the majority of those have pucks, bracket or bilstein 5100’s.

For reference this is 1150lbs of payload. Dobinson 2.5” springs with Procomp 1” spacer on top

 

That's also dumb. Why would anyone lower the practicality and comfort of their truck to not benefit? Looks alone don't warrant it IMO.

 

I reached out to Icon directly to see if they a solution (similar to the Total Chaos UCAs) for the DS & PS ABS lines/brackets. For both the Tubular & Billet UCAs, I'm not sure what they're solution is for that quite yet.

In the final figure for the UCA install guide, it shows them dangling and there's no reference as to what to do with them. See below. Full install instructions are attached.

Anyone with the Adventure Motors kit (that uses the Pro Comp UCAs) that can share a pic of how those UCAs handle the ABS line relocation?

On a side note: For anyone performing the UCA install, it requires the removal of the ECU. It looks like both Total Chaos and Icon both provide similar installation guidance. You have to come in from the top, remove the air box, undo some wiring harnesses & grommets, and then remove the ECU in order to gain access to the UCA bolts.

 

Their instructions for the front coil-overs state to replace the sway bar link end with a p/n that doesn’t exist, so I’m not surprised by this.

 

Isn’t it suppose to bolt to the top of the UCA like stock? I see there is a threaded hole there.

 

Funny you mention that. I saw that too, but the Icon rep said that you don't need new end links since the kit comes with a sway bar drop spacer. I guess we'll see.

You're probably right. It's tough because this is the highest resolution pic I can find of the 2022 Tundra UCAs. I couldn't tell if that's a threaded area or some type of offset zerk fitting for the Delta joint. I won't have these in hand for 2-3 months so I'm trying to pre-plan (i.e. avoid) installation hiccups. lol

I noticed for the total chaos UCAs, the instructions basically have you zip tie the ABS line to 2 small u-channels they've welded to the side of the UCA.

How does the dobinsons rear coil springs and shocks compare to fox that comes on the TRD Pro's?

 

The higher end Dobinsons are likely going to be better than the stock Fox Toyota setup. The rear is going to have a larger reservoir for fluid dissipation and likely will have increased travel. Plus they're 3-way adjustable, high speed, low speed and rebound control, so you can really dial in your ride.

The foxes that come on Toyota's are nice, but they're nothing like the higher end kits that come on raptors and the like.
