I've been trying to put lightbar mounts on my Tundra for two years. I have the whole front end disassembled but cannot get the one last top nut off the frame rail that the crash bar mounts to, in order to attach the light bar mount. It's a 14mm, and i have a regular socket that's just barely too short to get around the nut and attach to my breaker bar, and a deep socket that is too long for me to fit my breaker bar in the space. I've seen guys get this bolt off before. What am i supposed to do? It's almost 9pm and I just want to finish this. Thanks in advance.

How about a box wrench with a cheater?

I never knew there was actually a tool called a breaker bar. I just called that when I put a piece pipe over my wrench or ratchet. I still keep a 3ft piece of pipe in the bed if my truck for this reason. I guess what I'm saying, is put a piece of pipe over your handle.

If you dont have a impact a box end of a wrench and a hammer will suffice.

Looks like the bar in front would be in the way for an impact.

A heavy application of PB Blaster or similar helps more than you might imagine, especially if you take the time (read: beer break) to let it seep in.

Have you tried the 50/50 approach? Halfway on the short socket, and the same with the breaker bar.

Correct. No way to get impact or even socket wrench/breaker bar back there because thread is too long and socket is too short or long. Box end wrench w/ cheater bar may be on to something... i'm thinking propane torch combined with that?

More perspective. Breaker bar with regular 14mm and then breaker bar with deep 14mm. Regular 14mm too short to get onto nut, long 14mm cant fit with breaker bar in the space. Therefore, i don't think I'd be able to attach a u-joint to the deep socket either.

Mid-deep socket would be the trick. I think. I have a friend with a 1 1/2" 14mm deep socket, while my regular is 1" and my deep is 2 1/2". May pick it up tonight. As well as a torch.

May or may not be optimum, but can you get in there and cut off the non-threaded end of the bolt? Just enough to make the short socket work?

Don't think it would fit on a deep socket back there. Cant even fit my breaker bar and deep socket. See message I just posted about my friend having a socket in between the two sizes i have.

That will be dire straits solution. But i've seen pics of guys installing their lightbars here before with the bolt happily off. No grinding.

Are you only trying from the top? If you go at it from the bottom I bet you can get enough power on it with the box end to bust it loose.

Stick the short socket 3/4 of the way on, then attach the breaker bar to the remaining portion that you can insert, remove nut.

Got it! I don't have a 14mm "mid-deep" socket but I do have a 9/16" mid-deep socket which is close enough to 14mm. Stuck it on there with regular socket wrench and it came loose no problem. Now just have to thread it off the rest of the way with small wrench turns which will take all night because i don't have ratcheting wrenches but oh well.

This was exactly why I now own a set of metric ratcheting wrenches.

I use ratcheting wrenches more than any other tool in my box. I HIGHLY suggest you get a set. They are amazing.

late to post but I took mine off at this exact same place. I used a 1/2 drive ratchet and a middle deep socket no problem. I had one in my craftsman kit that worked perfectly. Then just thread it off by hand once loose.

Yes. 14mm ratcheting wrench and a 14mm mid-deep socket would've made life a lot easier. Also, the 9/16" trick was ok but I realized I had to remove the whole crash bar and bumper to easily accomplish what i wanted to and I am not sure the 9/16" mid-deep socket wouldve been easy there. Also didn't want to try to torque bolts back down using a 9/16". I got the rest of the bolts off (and back on) double-wrench cheater bar style no problem. Then had to use a standard 14mm wrench painfully slowly to back the nut away from the bolt enough to slip a regular 14mm socket on and go the rest of the way. Patience is key.

I just installed bumper shims so I had to remove all 8 of those nuts. Key for me was removing the inner fender liner. Oh and I had my 7 year old help with tiny hands!
