Did you happen to ask icon what spring rate their coilovers were using? My only experience is with king, but some shops will let you swap out standard springs for heavier ones if you’re running armor and a winch. Might save you some time dealing with finding the right amount of preload for the standard icons.

I didn’t get the specs on the spring rate, but can ask when I talk to the shop next time. The shop did confirm that these are a higher rate than stock because the Icon rep immediately jumped to this kit once they told him my bumper & winch combo is estimated at around 290lbs.

Originally, we were thinking of going the Icon coilovers without the Icon springs and just using the OE springs. However, factoring in armor threw that out the window.

Yeah I’d be really interested hearing what they have to say. Am I understanding you correctly that they offer a standard spring and a heavy spring option? On all their kits I see for sale online, there doesn’t seem to be any indication of optional HD spring rate.

Following... I thinking Icon Stage 4 front and all Dobinson rear with 2" spring. I'm not planning on adding a whole lot, just enough.

    Partially.

They offer an Icon Coilover Kit that does not include a spring. On these 22 kits...they don't offer a standard spring, per say.

The Stage 1 & Stage 2 kits are just the coilover shocks and you utilize the OE springs. You'll have to disassemble the stock front coilovers and transfer the OE spring to the Icon coilover kit. All Stage 3 kits & up use an Icon spring for the coilover that is a higher spring rate. At least, that was how it was described to me.

I'm on the same boat as you. Maybe I'll add the 2" rear spring lift to compensate for the 300 or so pounds that I plan to add in accessories on the truck bed.

Any idea how much weight you've added on your truck bed?

Cherry setup looks awesome! Seen you driving around town. Did you get all that installed at Top Notch? If you don't mind me asking about how much did all that cost? Researching for when my 1794 comes in.

thanks! Yeah Top Notch did the work and they were great! They are super detail oriented and they do everything right.

I’m in this lift more than I wanted to be, probably around $4500. The rear is absolutely dialed, the Dobinson springs, Dobinson IMS shocks and Panhard bar are plush and work amazing off road. We had to preload the ProComp coilovers 2 full turns to get the ride height we needed in order to get closer to the 3.5” rear lift. With the preload the coilovers feel “jumpy,” especially when stepping down a sharp drop. I did 37” tires so it needed a little more lift, but if your doing a 35” I’d definitely recommend the 2.5” Dobinson springs and IMS or MMR shocks without the 1” Procomp spacer on top and then do the Procomp coilovers at the regular height. That would be a perfect setup for ride off-road IMO.

We also used some brake line brackets, diff drop and a couple other parts from the Rough Country kit.

You have an eta on your 1974?

Or buy the adventure motors kit that has all of that pre packaged but with sway bar relocation kit, brake lines, bump stops and Fox front shocks- much higher quality than pro comp and about the same price for the total kit!

The only component that was really different is the front coilovers, which are Fox 2.0 and adapted to fit the tundra. The Procomps are 2.5” bodies and now made by Walker Evans. They are arguably a better strut. I wasn’t planning on running away bars so I didn’t need the relocation bracket. Additionally getting Adventure motor sports to ship to Hawaii wasn’t cost effective.

I’ll probably swap out the front coilovers to a Dobinson as soon as they release one. The Dobinson products are top quality.

Thanks for the info! Definitely thinking about 37s although my 5ft wife might disagree. Haha!

Ordered my tundra on Dec 2nd from hilo. They've been getting tundras that were ordered in Oct so hopefully I get mine in Sept. No solid eta. Guess cause it's an upper trim there's been lots of delays. Supposedly it was built back in May. Waiting for the call!

Good luck with that! My wife is 5' 2" and she's already read me the riot act about going to up my 34.5" tires. haha.

I'm still debating what to pair with my front Icon setup. Either the Dobinsons 2" springs or keeping the stock springs and just add the ProComp 1" spacer. The spring spacer would be the cheaper route since I wouldn't have add in a rear track bar....though I've seen some folks run the stock rear track bar with the Dobinsons just fine.

Looks badass. What's the lift height on the front and rear, again? 4" and 3" ?

ARB (who owns OME) is notorious for taking their time releasing new products. In fairness...that's one of the reasons why their stuff is premium (& expensive). They spend a lot of time on R&D. Dobinsons is kind of the same way. The only reason they hit the market so quick with the rear components was they realized their existing LC80 springs just so happen to work on the new Tundra.

My order is placed for the ICON Stage 6 with Billet UCA. I'm likely going to add the 2" rear coil spring lift from Dobinsons. It's now just a waiting game. Ugh.

10-12 weeks, but you know you need to add 4-6 weeks to whatever they tell you. LOL

Nice! I really debated going with the billet UCAs. My only worry was the rep mentioned that because of the Heim joints, it often times limits your alignment options to off road shops only. He said most of the usual automotive places don't know how to handle the additional adjustments of the billet UCAs. They do look pretty sick though!

I'm still debating 1" spacers or the 2" Dobinsons. Thinking about ordering the Dobinsons and having them installed to see how the truck sits.

Ordered my Icon Stage 4 kit on Monday. The Icon rep said 12-16 weeks for the lead time.

I'll have between 300-350 lbs loaded in the bed so I think the 2" coils will sag about an inch and I'm fine with that.

Probably best to take the rig to a shop that specializes in those types of alignment. An ICON dealer should be able to handle that type of alignment work, but if not, then there's got to be at least one in your city that can do it.

Unfortunately, no. That's why I went with Icon's tubular UCAs vs the billet. The nearest dedicated off road shop, the one I'm using, is 59 miles from my house. I live out in the boonies so I needed to ensure my setup was accessible. I didn't want to tear up my tires in the event I smack something, knock it out of alignment, and have to drive the 60 miles to get an alignment. The closest thing my little town has to a dedicated off road shop is a small Kawasaki side-by-side dealership. lol.

Does anyone know what the spring rates are for the Dobinsons rear spring lifts? Having this info would give us an idea of how much the springs would sag/compress at a give load. Thanks.

The 2" lift C59-169 has a spring rate of 227lbs.

So 227lbs, meaning they start to flex with 227lbs added? Or max 227lbs? And it’s rated for a LC so is our truck bed lighter? Does the 2” lift translate to Tundras? So many questions!! :help:

Kinda low spring rate in my opinion. So, around 450 lbs load the two rear springs would compress about 1 inch.
