You are about in the same boat as myself and a couple others here. I did my first one in Feb and that one was recently closed as of a couple of weeks ago. I submitted the 2nd one on May 25th and still waiting on a response to that one.

What a let down. No matter what I said they would not change their mind. I told them that if I had halogens and noting was wrong with my harness, then what guarantee does Toyota give me that it won't burn up 6 months down the line. The guy kept going in circles about how I understand your situation, blah, blah, blah. He said once its reviewed and closed nothing can be done. I asked him how is it possible that others are getting paid. No answers, its a case by case situation. I told him how can it be a case by case situation if its all for the same thing? No answer. I guess they are losing their ASSES on the 3rd Gen and are trying to avoid paying out claims. Oh well I tried. Good luck to the others that filed a claim.

Some early ones probably got approved before they realized everyone did this as a mod for fun. They aren't trying to 'get away from paying people.' They aren't in the business of modding folks vehicles for them.

They wrote the recall and they are the ones that said reimbursement was eligible if repairs were made prior to the recall. I'm guess approval or disapproval depends on the person that looks at it.

What the hell. Why would they say to submit a new inquiry? Did you call and find out the out come of the closed claim?

Ok so mine is under review at the reimbursement office. She said once the claim moves from submission level to review level, it will show closed when we log in to see the status, even though its still pending. Once approved or disapproved, we would get an email.

When I had their harness replaced under warranty which took a whole day (LOL), I was told good that I didn't swap to LED's as they were not honoring anymore claims.

Toyota prefers to pay a tech a whole day to swap a probably $1000 harness than to pay out $700 for LED lights. That will never make sense to me. I am still glad I swapped to LED.
Did you get to see the harness? Was it a complete engine harness or a sub harness. I was looking for the headlight harness and no luck. Only shows a engine bay harness.

That is pure BS......I would take it with a grain of salt. Toyota is still processing claims. Now they may not honor claims submitted after a certain date...ie after the recall release, but they are still processing the legitimate claims that met the requirements for possible reimbursement.

I will have to find the harness documentation that went along with the recall but it was quite a bit more than $1000.

Post #185 has the harness documentation that led to the recall. Some of those part numbers are $2600 for the main enginebay harness.

Holy crap. So even more stupid on Toyotas part to not pay out $700 for LED lights. So its probably a total of $3000-3500 parts and labor.

Yep...I googled some of those part numbers on that sheet...... Most technicians are changing the harness because they have to, not because they want to. I've seen some of them....lazy as hell.

Does anyone have a technical write up on what should done for this recall? I had it done a few weeks ago and it took the tech about 2.5 hrs to complete. It looks like they spliced in a new wiring harness from the main harness that runs below your headlights up to the headlight socket. Maybe about 12" long in total. I just wanted to be sure I got the correct fix because I'm not seeing a few thousand in repairs done.

Your repair seems to be the consensus for what everyone else has had done so far. Any way to get a picture of the repair? I'm curious to see their splice work capabilities lol.

Lol. It's something to laugh at for sure. I should have taken pics. I will see if I can pop one side off this weekend and get a picture. The repair looks to be done by a crappy stereo shop tech.

Definitely post pics. A crappy non-environmental splice will open a can of worms for corrosion if in the right climate. If it looks like crap, I'll make some anonymous phone calls. I'm good friends with a manger at my dealership. :spy:

I ran and grabbed some crappy pics from behind the fog light so I couldn't get close or take the electrical tape (not harness tape) off to get good access to the splices. I'll get better ones when I clean it up.

Keep in mind, recall and warranty work goes to end of the stack for a dealer mechanic, because they only get set time and pay to work on it. Many times, they give these to the new guys whenever possible. Had a friend in the biz…

@Tundra234 - don’t you have a Morimoto conversion on your rig? Wondering if I should just pay Colton and get a set with a new harness. Yikes!

Yes I have the Morimotos. The question has come up quite often regarding the factory harness and converting to LEDs. I created this post just a few minutes ago to try and get some input from our smart electrical guys.

So my question, does every vehicle affected by the recall have to have the splicing done (or have any work done)? Based on what I've read, I'm not fully understanding.

I ask because I had them perform the visual inspection of my harness and the documentation for the recall just says "visual inspection: successful" no notes about damage or discoloration or needing anything done to my harness. Asked my service advisor (normally he's pretty knowledgeable and not one of the useless ones) and he thinks this means I'm done with the recall and they won't need to do anything else to my truck.
