Rear brake problem

I cooked the new drums with caliper paint, but when I dropped one off the hub it went shitty. No problem, old drums were just rust anyway.

Did you buy the calipers already machined?

 

I bought them from the dealer and had them shipped to the machine shop. So, yeah, in a way.

 

How much did the FB guy charge to modify them?

I know Jim machines his. Not sure about Jeff. But if I were you guys - I would let me install them probably very soon - they are in route). If it's a shit show for me you have more info to work with.

 

Here's my rear brake update. Installed new everything back there except cylinders which are only a year old, and look new. I went with a power brake kit. Take before pictures or do one side at a time (I did both) because these drums are a bit of a pain. I only installed them yesterday. Today, I pulled the drums to adjust the stars, spun them, repeat, repeat repeat until they were pretty tight. Drove them and back on the jacks to adjust again. Drove them. Back on the jacks and adjusted from behind the plates this time in the little oval holes. Adjusted the p brake. Re-adjusted the P brake. Bled the prop valve. Braking is improved for sure, still missing that front grab I want. I followed some @FrenchToasty advice and also have the power bleeder he's used inbound.

 

How can it be a shit show my install went super smooth. I had more problems with the rears then the front.

 

I do not know - I've never done the install. But from a pure bolt on perspective, easy. From a performance perspective, that's what I'm referring to.

 

Got it I can't give my opinion on performance as I'm still bedding the EBC orange pads. I do day pedal feels alot better and stops quicker that not even slamming on the pedal I upgraded from 13WL.

 

The rear brake work I just did adds a lot of response, and a solid pedal. The rears are generally only good for about 30% of the braking, by design, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes.

 

Yes definitely feel the brake power on the rear I also did the LSPV delete

 

Are you experiencing the "mushy" pedal feeling since doing the BB upgrade?

 

No mushy pedal, I had done the T100 M/C and booster before the 14WA and the pedal was super firm. Now the pedal feels soft like a newer car pedal feel but I have not pressed the pedal super hard. I do have to say it stops great and only with lite firmness.

 

That's probably a good delete. I had adjusted mine to right on, and those rears will lock too soon if you over do it, but I see a real benefit of losing that weight prop valve thing.

 

Will you do another T100 M/C and booster and send to @FirstGenVol , we'll all pitch in to pay for it

Yeah, we're starting to think he was born with them.

 

Poor guy. I'm still a little hesitant on doing the upgrade because of the mushy pedal feeling stories. Waiting to hear from your experience.

 

Ya - it's either great or bullshit depending on who you ask and the truck they have. I'm waiting too - I think by next Sunday they will be in.

My take is at this point, is that Sequoia and 05/06 DC with 13WL are the most likely to succeed w/o a shit ton of extra work.

 

Why not '05-'06 AC or RC? Pretty sure my truck has 13WL.

 

Maybe after 04 in all versions. IDRK. It just seems that Sequoias have no complaints and maybe the DC has a more robust MC. The biggest concern seems to be going from 13WE to Lexus.
