I saw in another thread that the tailgate isn't supposed to drop at full speed until the last 1/4" and then bounce back up! Also lifting the tailgate can be a one-handed job.

So I replaced my tailgate assist strut which apparently we all need to do after about 10 years.

The part is 4B-256726 Stabilus and the job takes 5-10 minutes. T30 to remove your driver's side brake light (pull it out not back). Then pop off your old strut with a flathead screwdriver. Close the tailgate and pop the new strut on.

    Before & after:

I made a video but the site won't let me upload it so just image a tailgate that slides down luxuriously.

Do a bit of reading up before you commit to the balancing beads. I'm always wary of any goods sold that proudly display the 'as seen on TV' sticker.

My TPMS light came on after the new tires were put on, my own fault using a cheap back alley garage to do the job - $25 to change and balance two tires seems cheap until you realise that when you are disposing of the old tires at the local trash site (because I'm too tight to pay the disposal fee) that the piece of plastic that fell out of one as you threw it in the dumpster was a broken TPMS sensor...

As for things done to my beast - I got well and truly grubby doing a bit of shade tree mechanics in 93F high humidity, why oh why does dirt stick so easily to sweat?
She got new oil and filter, a new cabin filter, I repaired a slow puncture in a rear tire and replaced the rear shocks. Might get round to replacing the front shocks and plugging the puncture in one of my new front tires next weekend.
Last weekend she got the full beauty treatment - took me two days to clean her up, most of Saturday involved the vacuum!!!

Got back from a muddy camping trip on Sunday.

Celebrated the 4th by washing American mud off my French tires mounted on Japanese wheels.

It looks good. I ended up ordered those stickers you mentioned and surprising they shipped. I took the chance since I could not find them anywhere else. Do you have any trouble keeping them on your wheels? I know it says place them on a flat surface but with the Toyota emblem it makes it kind difficult. Just worried they might fall off during car washes.

Made my hitch rack more functional. Added an external rack so I can use my Yakima box on top and coolers underneath. I had a ton of extra 80/20 extrusion from the bed rack that I removed, so this is the replacement. I forgot to order additional hardware in time, so this isn't in its final form, but very close. This should create a lot of space for hunting season!

I also added a Start-X remote starter. Easy install overall, even for someone who doesn't like wiring. All plug and play and works like a charm!

Edit: Here it is in final form. Topped it all off with a swingout so you can easily access the bed. Very very handy!

Got it back together and during the addition of the 3rd gallon of coolant, coolant started pouring out of somewhere unseen. I closed the shop door and went to celebrate the 4th. FML

I have Bilstein 5100’s in the front at the top setting and @Toytec Lifts shackles set at 1.5” in the rear with Eibach 1.5” shocks. Also did the carrier bearing drop. And I have 1.25” Spidertrax spacers all around. Gives me about a +28 offset with the oem 20’s. Removed front mud flaps and still have to push front of the wheel wells in a little. Plenty of uca clearance and the tires don’t touch the cab mount.
    Photo for poke reference.

Remove the Toyota emblem and there is a flat surface behind it.

I just used my thumb to push on the little tabs on the back of the cap. The emblem is some kind of cast metal that clips onto the plastic cap.

It was off, hadn't fired it up yet. I'm thinking it's the cross over pipe...but we'll see upon teardown. Starting that after work later today.

Yep, probably one of the upper pipes on the radiator were left off? Better case that the truck was off and it started coming out then if it built pressure and started leaking

Negative. Crossover pipe goes from back of water pump housing to the valley plate/heat exchanger. The pipe has o-rings on both ends that can easily shift when fitting it. No radiator hoses disturbed doing this repair.

Big yellow arrow points to the pipe in question

Super upset reading this. You are not a good man for doing that.

Huh, our county has dumpsters specifically for tires, I hope you aren't insinuating that I dumped them in the general trash? :eek2:. As a European I find it tricky recycling half the things I used to and am pretty switched on at getting as much as I can recycled. Our town's roadside collection only collects general waste so I actually go out of my way and drive to local recycling facilities to get rid of as much as I can.
I was told by an acquaintance, who worked for the Florida county in which I used to live and appeared to be pretty hot on recycling, takes all it's recycled stuff that it collects and dumps it straight in the landfill - apparently they get kickbacks for recycling but no-one checks that they are actually doing it.

oooo haven't actually done that job, yikes, you have to take the intake back off? Or can you weasly your hand in there to slide the hose off?

No worries. Something tells me you aren't from the South East. I was chatting to some obnoxious prick last year and when I told him I recycled cardboard he said 'we don't do that, we're American'. Unfortunately he doesn't appear to hold a minority viewpoint round these parts.

Edit: Clarification, I mean where I live locally, not forums I frequent! :)

If it is in fact, the crossover tube orings leaking then the intake will certainly have to come back off & the valley plate as well. Most likely I did the same thing as the OP did here and will have to basically do the whole repair again.

Didn't bother with any pics since it was quick and easy, but swapped out the cabin air filter for a K&N and replaced the HVAC blower fan with one I picked up off Amazon. Went mid-range, $75ish vs. the $150 for OEM and cheaper $50ish models. Supposedly a lifetime warranty on it. No more jets taking off when cranking the air, at least for the time being.

I changed my cabin filter as well.

Painted these up for a set of winter tires too. Winter Grey, it's a Prius color.

Swapped the chrome grill out for a color matched one. Think the insert looks better in it and looks better with the sequoia style smoked headlights

id love to get the 2 bumpers done, but I’d have to buy new plastic ones first and then get them painted. I’m sure that’s be like 1k at least, so not in the cards for now
