Since Bruce's comment wasn't even directed at you, it might be time to get off the internet and go enjoy real life.

You'd lose $10. Oil gets changed at the dealer every 6 months or 5000 miles, whichever comes first, as well as any other maintenance. That way they can't deny warranty work for it when it finally decides to take a massive shit all over itself, especially the transmission. And with none of our vehicles have we suffered a stripped drain plug. Sorry your dealer apparently hires a bunch of inbred red-necks that doesn't know how to use a torque wrench, but the owner of our dealership is a little more exacting. He's been known to fire an employee because they missed a section on a vehicle wash before returning it to the customer.

I used to do my own maintenance on all my trucks... but why when I can have it done and if they screw it up it's on THEIR dime to fix?

Please elucidate on the purpose of a forum that multiple people participate in. Are comments only allowed to be done by specific persons?
BTW, when one comments on "the guy bumping it" and it was my post... guess what.... that means it IS directed towards me... so maybe YOU need to take your advise and go back to your fantasy land. Or maybe better yet grab you a quart of maple syrup and gulp it down while holding your hockey stick?

I do remember you from my past experience here... and that you were one that was easily butt-hurt when anything negative Tundra was posted. I would have figured after a few years that maybe you had matured or at least entered the semi-adult stage of your life. But apparently that was wrong.

Excuse me... I thought this was a discussion forum.... I didn't see where the thread was closed to any further posting (which is an ability in Xenforo to do).
Most sites I know of that keep a thread open, it's to encourage further discussions.
So, what facts did you relate that responded to my statements?

Considering it was 3am in the morning when the storm blew through... wouldn't have mattered what one had. Fact still remains, a dented top of the cab resulted in the totaling of a truck with less than 5000 miles on it. But it did allow me to "upgrade" to a 4WD off-road.
But sorry it's not the boner-inspired truck you apparently think they are.... and if you think they are "tops" at towing, in the 1/2 ton field, ....MOD EDIT

If you're worried about getting warranty work done because you touched your truck, i would find another dealer.

Smart owner though, more in his bank account.

Not everyone resides in a locale that has multiple dealers. The nearest other dealer to me is 70 miles away one way. That was one of the reasons I haven't owned a Toyota for decades, until a local dealer opened up. I have an issue with taking my vehicle several hours away and having to leave it for 2-3 days (fuel pump recall took 1.5 days to get truck back) and find a way back home, then BACK to the dealer to pick it up, all the while being without a vehicle.
I can "touch" my vehicle... that's why I've got aftermarket head unit and a few other toys in it... but I'm FULLY cognizant that it is then MY responsibility to prove that any changes I made did not affect a warranty item. It's easy enough if I replaced the head unit and the engine blows a gasket to show that my improvement didn't affect it. It's a little more difficult (and involved, mayhap requiring employment of "experts") if you put a transmission cooler on and then have an issue with the drive train (transmission specific). It's all fine and dandy to yell out "Mangusson Moss act"... but you will frequently STILL have to take a dealer into court and present your evidence and then be found "right". All of which takes time and money. And yes, most dealers are in the business to make money...not expend it. Can you show me any profitable business that isn't that way?

I realize that many here are die-hard Toyota worshippers... but the simple fact of the matter is that there are some trucks out there that do certain things better than the Tundra does. Doesn't make the Tundra bad, it simply means that it's not the "best at everything"... but most that buy them know that. It's only a select rabid few who begin slobbering at the mouth when something negative is said about the Tundra. As I have said earlier, if I knew that we would be moving into a larger trailer, I would not (even with the special deal offered) gotten the Tundra after the piss-elm decided to eat our other one along with the trailer we had. I was fully expecting to go back into a similar size trailer but the wife found one she preferred more after we had replaced the totaled Tundra. Once vehicle supply chains get a little better (last time I checked I would be waiting around 6 months for the F-350 I got a quote on) I may get rid of the Tundra and get the larger truck. I KNOW I won't be getting the 2022 Tundra as one of the very reasons I avoided the Ford F-150 was their use of the EcoBoost and had a feeling that Toyota may suffer similar issues with turbos (and turns out they did).

Swapping fluids like for like is a no-brainer DIY, don't be afraid of your local owner bullying people into service.

From the F150 forum for a 2018 XLT HDPP crew cab 2x4:

Another guys 2013 XLT Supercab 8' bed 4x4 HDPP:

And I have personally looked at a 2015 or 2016 F150 3.5 ecoboost supercrew 4x4 XL STX package that had 2100 lbs on a dealer lot.

HDPP should almost be it’s own line of trucks as the frame isn’t even the same as the regular F150.

actually, my 2014 is on the HDPP frame. Just not the HDPP axle or springs. And they are not as rare as you think. I've already seen a bunch of 2021+ HDPP F150's running around locally. People do order them.

My F150 is probably one of the heaviest around and still has a respectable 1560 lbs of payload verified by the cat scale. 2014, supercrew, 6.5' bed, 4x4, Lariat with virtually every option available and the max tow package. It scales at 6140 lbs empty.

I ended up just blocking the guy. I lost count of the # of times he said "I don't deal in BS, plus I was patrol and now I'm IT, blah blah..." followed closely by a bunch of insults and BS. (E.g., he said he deals in fact, but then says "I'm sorry your dealership employs inbred rednecks." lol)

I see that all the time on FB - they're the people who use the excuse "I just tell it like it is" to exercise a lack of tact and cover for their own BS as a response to others' BS.

At least *WE* admit our BS. :D

The tow rating on the Tundra is not overstated.
Most do not understand what all of the numbers actually mean.
Most do not understand axle loading.
Most do not understand that if you are loading a truck near is max you will squat and you will notice that you have to work harder to make it move and stop etc.
Most do not understand that the tow rating published is not at 75mph.

If you want to pull 8,000 pounds at 75mph with no suspension deflection you should probably not be purchasing a half ton truck.

My Tundra does not tow as well as my dad's F250 Powersmoke. It does not pretend to be that truck. But, it does drive better and ride better and put a bigger smile on my face for the 95% of time that I am driving without my travel trailer.

As for the F150. In some forms it very well may tow better than my Tundra. In many ways I like the F150 better. However, It is not SAE tow rated. It does not have the build quality. It does not have the reliability history.
I have been in the Tundra factory and I have been in the Ford factory. I have interacted with Ford Engineers and Toyota Engineers. I have supplied parts to Toyota and to Ford. I purchased a Tundra....... Nuff said :)

The Tundra may not have the towing and payload capacities of a Ford but I have never had a Toyota in the shop for ANYTHING. I can't say that about the Fords I owned. That is why I switched from Ford. The Tundra is more then adequate for what I tow and haul. If I am going to tow 13,000 lbs or haul 2000 I am not going to buy a 1/2 ton.

And yet one of the million mile Tundras was regularly used to haul 2600 lbs, if my memory serves me...

    I’m all about electric motors.
The newness of this trend will wear off though.
Go cross country towing 8k to understand the inconvenience of electric.
Great way to go if you live in the city.
    I guess

Just read through this entire thread and while some of it was ridiculous other parts were very informative. That said, it’s so damn confusing as all our trucks are different (although maybe just slightly) as far as payload and max towing. Mine is a ‘21 Pro with a softer suspension and payload is 1225lbs and towing is rated at 9000lbs. I really want to buy the bunkhouse heavier trailer but it looks like it puts me at both max payload and tow (along with being almost 30ft long) so having to settle on the smaller couples trailer that may be less of a white knuckle drive. I would maybe need to get the ProPride wdh ($3500) with the bigger one even though that weighs about 175lbs (which I think I need to include on my tongue weight?) while I’m pretty sure the lighter (and much cheaper) Andersen weight distribution hitch would work for the smaller one. My wife is saying we might be better off doubling our spend and just buy a Class C that already has the trigonometry figures all worked out!! I like the idea of taking my truck wherever whenever when we do get to our destination, so again back to the original thought, so damn confusing (to say the least)

Not to overcomplicate, but remember that 'tongue weight' needs to be factored into 'payload'. So, if you have a payload of 1225 minus 790 tongue weight, minus 175 WDH, you only have 260lbs of payload remaining.... and that doesn't factor fluids, tanks, food, ice and gear in the trailer adding to its tongue weight. In other words if you drove w/the trailer completely empty, you would still only be able to put 260lbs in the cab/bed of your truck (including occupants). If you go w/the smaller trailer, it would leave you 645lbs of payload avail; which would be used to accommodate vehicle occupants, gear, WDH weight, plus any additional tongue weight due to what is loaded into the trailer. It adds up quick!!! Also, you would still need to verify you other measurements are within specs such as CGWR, axle ratings, etc....

If you stick to the numbers and specifications that are provided and ignore 'claims' made by folks that 'you'll be fine' or 'it will pull it fine', etc. you'll be able to easily assess what you can safely pull and many of the decisions will be made for you by the specs.
