1st Gen. Lunch Table - General Discussion

Well looks like my shits good and broke. Not sure how serious it is to keep driving but starting to look like I need new spindles on both sides, a different coil over setup, and new UCA's. Great. Just when I though the truck was "done" enough for my needs.
Way she goes I guess.
Anyone know if 1st gen sequoia spindles (which I assume are the same as double cab) are the same? There's one of those at a local junkyard.

 

I'm pretty sure you got time. Space up your rear bump stops for now. They make contact before the fronts. Work it out and I would argue you don't have an emergency, just a need.

 

but why did it bend?

 

Ran out of travel before the LCAs made full stop is my opinion.

 

My experience is that you are both right. Tuning and everything that goes with it prevents hard contact. But when you completely max out - you want that contact to be the LCAs and the bump stops.

I am no suspension expert, by any definition. But, I do pay attention and listen to others, and see things for myself once I'm invested. Almost any suspension set up that can be bought or installed and aligned will drive. And, most of those will be trouble free. But, if you intend to or accidentally put the full dynamic weight of your truck on your suspension, the weak link will expose itself quickly and violently.

 

Somehow I rendered my headlights inoperable. This '02 likes to f with me. Hah.

 

Has to be a fuse or the switch? Bummer.

 

Playing with harnesses or regular use?

if it’s not a fuse, I’d be leery of the switch.

 

Yeah I know I used the bump stops a few times on our road trip. Once or twice pretty hard. If I did stuff like I did on our trip on a regular basis I'd make a lot of upgrades. I'll space up those rear stops. I'm not planning on doing anything wild for now.
I just need someone to confirm if sequoias/double cabs/access cabs have the same spindle and I'll have to get a set.

 

pulling back on the stalk flashes ok, relays click.

No fog lights at all (with or without my helper harness)

No low beams at all, ignition on or off

high beams with push forward don't work.

Tried with and without the drl connection near the battery.

Could just be my luck with the el-cheapo of the cheapo harnesses (bought it before I started crimping, haven't replaced yet.

But interesting that fog lights aren't happening either. Extra interesting that pull back flashes OK but push forward no bueno.

 

Rick auto lists the same part number for tundra/sequoia but out of stock. But don’t list the knuckle at all for an ‘06

 

Unplug elcheapo harness and test?

 

Looks like certain date range then they changed them.
(Wouldn't buy them from here it just shows date range)

 

At that price those camberg knuckles look mighty tasty.

 

They had a mild change when they went with the "upgraded" LBJ for the 1.25-1.5 gens. Not 100% on the sequoia answer.

 

Think the last pic I posted confirmed what I needed to know. I was looking for a spindle not a "knuckle" as i guess it is really called. Looks like a specific date range.

 

So about 2 weeks ago my buddy asks why his tundra is squeaking. I take a quick peek underneath and see his shock bushings are nearly non existent. I tell him he needs new shocks IMMEDIATELY. Fast forward 1 week and he goes over a set of train tracks and this happens:

 

That was getting him home from DFW back in 2018 after sitting for a year.

 

I think it's kinda like the 13WL and 13WE brake differences. They say it's for certain years, but it fits all of em. I'm almost positive someone stuck 03-06 knuckles in an 00-02

 

Definitely the next step. And then get out the multi-meter. Just kinda caught me by surprise, an unexpected turn of events.

The focus right now is getting my ‘16 driveable. Which really only requires getting the seats bolted down and deciding on the starter battery. Yesterday I got the aux battery tray installed and moved the AGM 35 to that spot, prep for all the fun stuff I hope to connect.

 

I missed something apparently. How did your spindles get bent?

Reading some threads it seems like the shocks on stilts are folding over because of spacer lifts.
So those taco boys aren’t landing on their bumpstops.

 

What year Sequoia are the spindles coming off of? The later Sequoias and Tundras with the different spindles also use a different LBJ. The later spindles have more of a rectangular bolt pattern that the LBJ bolts onto and I'm pretty sure it uses larger bolts.

 

Apparently on our road trip. I posted pictures further up. I guess the bump stop spacers I put in that came with the 5100's didn't bring them up enough.

Well when I was at the junkyard looking around at inventory they had a sequoia there but I didn't look at the year because I didn't realize my truck was messed up yet. Come to think of it though it had the later (I believe 05-06) cluster in it so it probably won't work anyway.

 

I was thinking about upgrading to the updated lbj’s, until I saw what knuckles cost. But I’m considering gussets more and more lately.

 

Just do the CO out and full compression of the suspension. At max compression, well almost, my gussets were being shaved by my shock tower upper coil bucket things. Nothing a grinder doesn't take care of, but another reason to cycle that suspension at full travel.

 

Are factory hub to fender measurements documented anywhere in the 1GT sub-forum? Looking specifically for 05/06 Access Cab.
