Tackling P0171

Not necessarily. Cheap and easy to clean the MAF with proper cleaner, clear codes, test drive. Start there

 

I had an issue like this before it turned out a piece of air filter a mouse chewed lodged in maf sensor. Before I noticed I did new fuel pump and filter. Anyways I ended up with 2 new hitachi maf sensors. I just put the new one I had in and no change. I will buy cleaner just in case though, thanks

 

While you're in there, make sure the big air intake hose between the MAF and throttle body isn't dry rotted/torn

 

I’ve checked a few times, when I try and rev up it almost seems like there is a blockage inside the box part of that tube, I have no idea what’s inside there, there’s 3 hoses going to it

 

The air filter is only a few months old and I can see light through it easily

I did have an exhaust leak between the cat and manifold, someone used flat gasket instead of the ring type years ago on bank 1. Replaced the gasket, had to take out the center ring on the gasket because it would not fit over the exhaust pipe.
No leak there now, but it I did unplug the battery to weld a nut on a snapped stud.
Seems when it runs ok and is drivable but with massive hesitation if you step on it, and then unplug the battery for a while it will now barely start and has minimal throttle response and stalls out . This seems to be a trend I notice. If I let it sit a few days I will probably be able to drive it again.
Will work on getting a smoke test done. I tried the original maf sensor I had problems with no Thea ago and that throws a p100 code. I have 2 others I been switching to and they don’t throw any codes, just get the 071

And I did a fuel filter

 

Waiting for the new fuel pump to come in, decided to drop the tank early and get it ready, anyways, I found my problem.

 

How the hell does that happen?

 

P0171 code came back. Dropped the tank and the hose had worked itself off the fuel pump again. Decided to replace with a Delphi 0410 I had ordered a while ago but never installed and waited too long to return. There’s a difference in length and the short section of hose is much better quality and seems to be a tighter fit. Also the clamps feel like they hold better too.

 

I love seeing people fixing their rigs and getting them back running correctly.

 

Damn, I have no idea how I missed this. I probably would've guessed fuel pump issue, but I would've never expected what was found! Appreciate sharing on this one.
