    Coolant leak on 2007 4x4 w/5.7

    Hmmm, back of engine? ......
It drained the surge tank over approx 20mi so I'd have to think it's a decent leak.....

Coming down drivers side of engine/trans....

Can't see the source, anybody had something similar?

If you have one try and get a small telescoping mirror in there and see if you can find the leak. Hopefully a leak in a hose and nothing too serious. Good luck!

The fastest way to find it would be to get a pressure tester and pressurize the system. Some chain auto parts have a loan-a-tool program. That would be what I would do to find it.

There are coolant lines that run down to the transmission but those are on the passengers side. Not sure where the heater lines run.

10-4. I can see what my weekend will consist of lol.

I actually had pics of those trans coolant lines posted but realized once I took another look that it actually wasn't those leaking. Seems like the lake's come down both sides of the eng/trans but majority is driver's side.

Here's those lines you mentioned. Whatever's leaking has covered those...

Does the cab smell like antifreeze? I ask because the condensation drain for the AC dumps right on top of the transmission. Right in the center.

Not the cab really, but after you get out of the truck you can't help but smell it. Hot, sweet, sticky Zerex. Actually I first became aware of the leak this past weekend when idling the truck next to a brick building where the heat & smells can't escape easily.

yeah I've actually got a cheap boroscope that might come in handy here. Been doing a lot of reading on ih8mud and other places..... Found a post by a Toyota/Lexus shop owner saying what sealant he used (a lot cheaper than the $45-65/tube stuff I've seen recommended) & that he over torques the valley plates back in place by 5lbs-ft per bolt & stud. Says he's yet to have a comeback. Also found a few pics of vantage points to confirm the leak source. Apparently you might be able to see the spot by looking under the intake manifold from the side of the engine.

Any type of leak sucks, since it can happen in one place and it’s route makes it drip on the ground in another. Whenever I search for a leak, the first thing I do is clean the engine. It usually makes it easier to find the source. A lot of times, coolant leaks close to the firewall are the hoses going to the heater core.

That sucks. But at least you found where it was leaking and can make a plan.

Yes sir! The IH8mud & ClubLexus forums seem to be the main source of info on this & the DIY repairs. Cheap on parts but intensive on labor it seems.

Thanks. Yeah, definitely going to be pro-active with some things while I've got it apart. As for the air injection, shiiiiiiddd that's been bypassed for years now :)
