I stand by it. Love them but size wise midsized are catching them.

I’m not understanding your comparison-? Gen 1 Tundra was full size in the years manufactured, and those same years the Tacoma was miniature. The Tundra 1st gen is V8….

Was this just a random add-on to your commentary, or is there something specific you meant to convey?

    I own both a 2.5 and a 1st gen. Not getting what you’re saying.

The first tundra was between a mid and full size , 7/8

    I owned 2 including one in late 99 as a 2000

I’m not sure who “both” is. If that’s for me, I don’t get what you mean: that is to do with size and yea, many guys Taco drivers , bring up the “size doesn’t matter” argument. Lol— size matters.

Your post that you tacked a no-basis-for-your-opinion-provided comparison wasn’t to do with size. So… what’s the comparison?

We don’t want to argue. Just pointing out that you were taking a ‘throw $4!t at the wall and see what sticks approach’. And that included a baseless comparison tacked on.

The thing the 1st gen Tundra and a Taco have in common is durability and an emblem. Or maybe you meant that a 1st gen Tundra is similar in size to a current gen largest size Taco…?… that’s kinda right. Except that the Taco will hunt for gears all day long and the gen 1 will saunter right up any hill. And has better payload. And compares well to later gen Tundras too. Payload, gas mileage, towing…. Far different than a Taco of any generation.

Just would be cool if you take out the comparison, or elaborate on it. You may help us understand the comparison.

AND if you're just gonna focus on size as the one factor that makes it "basically a tacoma" the 1st gen Tundra has a noticeably roomier and taller interior cab, "sit inside the Tundra and you'll see the difference" that's a quote from one of the Tacoworld links you put up. The bed interior width is also wider due to less plasticmabob paneling etc.

For me the 1st Gen Tundra was the perfect size truck. Bigger than the T100, smaller than a full size. Just right bed length

The Dodge Dakota used to have a V8. That doesn't make it a full size.

Never said otherwise. Someone up a ways said 7/8 and I don’t disagree. I never made it about size, either.

It was just the guy kitchen sinking who, maybe to expand his points but without really thinking about it, randomly compared the Tundra to a Tacoma as pretty much the same truck.

Uhhhh. They both were manufactured same years…. Manufacturers don’t put out duplicate platforms. Tundra was their biggest, powerful V8 option and, during the years of the Tundra 1st gen, Tacomas were the smaller, more economical, less haul-worthy, completely different  alternative. So pretty much, not the same.

P.S. If you want to me to argue about a Dakota, I’m gonna have to read to catch up. Don’t get me wrong, Dakota is always going to be a Dodge, so I’m sure I can argue something.

1st Gen Tundra and the Tacoma are as similar as a the 1995 model F150 and Ranger. Anyone claiming otherwise either lacks direct experience or is carrying inherent bias.

Having a generation of Tundra the size a short bus, and potentially carrying as much mental sense as one, doesn't make it superior to earlier gens, nor make earlier gens equivalent to junior models.

I've seen low-mile 1st gens selling for more coin than later gens this last year or two - there's a reason for it. Toyota hit a sweet spot with it, before incrementally adding hood bulge to comical proportions. It's just taken trucks getting to short-bus-sized proportions for people to realize the value, I guess.

I’d take a Hilux if we could get ‘em. I really love my 1st gen Tundra, but if I could get power in a smaller truck, I’d take it!

The comment I responded two was claiming the 1st Gen tundra was a game changer in the truck market. It was not. Sorry but can’t change history. But the 2nd Gen was widely considered to be at launch. I was addressing that and since size was, in my opinion, the only reason the gen1 wasn’t more popular I summed it up.

I assumed most gen1 owners realized Tacoma’s are getting to be of similar proportions. And pretty sure you do reading through the responses so guessing here to purposefully take that out of context to be offended.

As for the increased value statement above, Yes it is increasing. You are correct it now is in a sweet spot. As the biggest midsized truck. Which brings us back to the beginning. So…my turn.

Tacomas are legendary. Are you putting down the Tacoma now? Junior model? Blasphemy! It’s Toyota’s biggest selling truck and class leader. I’ve seen people pay new prices for used ones this year! It’s the reason Toyota even has a tundra! - did I do that right?

Cant get a crew cab taco with a 6 ft bed.
grandpa regrets getting a new taco, misses the simplicity of the tundra.

old trucks are better in every way that matters.

I'm assuming you don't consider the double cab Taco a "crew cab". Before 2022 you couldn't get a crew cab Tundra with a 6 foot bed either.

Yea, double cab or whatever those minivans with beds are.

    Dc’s were 6.2ft and ac’s were 6.5

1st Gen Double Cab Tundra had 6'2" bed through all years of production.
Access Cab and I believe also Regular Cab models were 6'4" bed through all Gen 1 models.

Edit: My numbers are from shopping tonneaus, and are coming from BAK products' literature. I trust them to know sizing more than anyone, their product depends on it.

Any truck with a cabin (from firewall to backwall) as-long-as or longer than the bed isn't a truck, it's an SUV with an open cargo area.

Tacoma AC has 6 ft bed. DC has 5 or 6 foot bed.

2nd Gen Tundra DC has 6.5 ft bed. CM has 5.5 foot bed.

Ehh, I disagree. If the DC Taco is a crew cab (as far as utility is concerned), then the DC a Tundra is, too, because it has a roomier backseat.

Practically speaking, Tundra DC and CM are both crew cabs. If you want the bed space, the DC backseat can still fit adults. I don’t see how any adult can actually fit in the backseat of the “crew cab” Taco.

That said, it seems like the 3rd gen Tundra DC can’t fit adults as easily as the 2nd gen DC
