T100 Brake Booster Upgrade

Could be a silly question, but is there any issue using these parts in a non-ABS tundra?

 

I'm willing to bet a non-ABS would be even easier. The biggest thing to ensure is that you don't have traction control that came in some first gens.

 

I’m in a base 02, no traction, no ABS. The whole reason I bought it was it’s the smallest single cab I could find with a full size bed (all the t-100s I could find had frame rot). 10 years later I’m in love and upgrading her. Toyota just replace my frame last month under recall this winter! I’ll be on here a lot soon. Which reminds me, I have to go thank the guy who started the frame rust recall thread. I’ve got huge upgrades coming, gx460 front brakes with the sequoia rear, just had limited slip installed, got factory leather seats with a Honda sienna jump seat for the center, new doors with electric everything, painting it blue raptor liner, dying the whole interior the works!

 

That's awesome! I have more upgrades planned for my unit too as soon as I'm finished up on my 89 Firebird LS build. Your build sounds nice!

 

I had no idea that there was a no ABS version of our trucks. does that mean the passenger side of your inner fender near the fire wall is just a big blank canvas?

So im bringing this thread back up from the dead. My M/C was leaking into my booster and I ordered parts from Rockauto. Everything went smooth but the brake pedal is really stiff it's stops and hard to push down. Is that normal with the upgrade? Also my e-brake is not holding like it used to.

Oh forgot to mention that my LSPV was leaking so I installed a wilwood proportioning valve.

 

No that doesn't sound right. Almost sounds like a defective booster. What manufacturer did you go with?

The original poster in this thread got a bad booster initially if you go back and read. They had to send him a replacement.

My bad. I saw you mentioned the prop valve and my eyes glazed over the screenshot of the parts.

 

Is there a way to test and see if the booster is defective? I have a road trip on Friday and now I'm worried the it's bad I paid $60 for next day air.

 

There is a test in the field service manual. I'm on my phone or I would look for it. You can probably find it using the search function here. It's been posted before. Google says a stiff pedal is a sign of a faulty booster.

 

My pedal would get stiff due to lack of vacuum. But it wasn't constant, only after high rpm like cresting the 1 hill we have here. Did you double check all your vacuum lines @Dave8699?

 

Thank you for your response as this has me going crazy not knowing if it's normal. I'm assuming my vacuum lines are good as my old booster was working. The new upgrade booster has a consistent feel. Pedal feels like when the cars off.

Whats the easiest way to check the vacuum? Is there a diagram that I can follow or should I buy a vacuum gauge ?

 

Carb cleaner if that finds a leak while the engines running rpm will increase. But also looking for cracks after you disconnect the hose.

 

I'll give that a try, also how would I determine if the booster is bad.

 

When its running, lift the pedal up, theres a bit of movement from gaps in the linkage, but if the pedal comes up more than 1/8-1/4 inch something might be wrong.

my brake problem was the mc, my booster was still good, so i’m assuming with speculation.

Oh, did you shorten the push rod?

 

I can't find any pics, but rodents had chewed up some of my lines on the box by the booster, and 1 of the lines was disconnected. After replacing those the problem went away. I'd check the easy stuff like that first. Don't forget the connections on the booster itself!

 

Yes I cut about 1/2" I left it to the same distance of my oem booster.

 

I noticed that when I shut the truck off there is a very low hissing sound by the pedal. Is that normal or is that the booster leaking?

 

I just placed an order for a new booster under warranty let's hope that's the problem.

 

Does the brake pedal lose pressure and depress quickly when applied?

 

Nope it's constantly hard, it's a little softer then if the truck was off.

 

Also forgot to mention my ABS light turns on here and there.

 

Sometimes that means low fluid
