1st Gen. Lunch Table - General Discussion

So, I'm close to pulling the trigger on hammer hangers, crossmember and shackles, and resi brackets from archive garage for my leafs which I have to get re-arched.
Curious if I'm missing anything which would be appropriate to do at the same time since the leafs will come off. I spent 6+ months waiting on the rear shocks so I'm stuck with what I have, adjustable 8" travel fox 2.5's with remote resi.

Sort of like how I did LBJ's up front then LCA's and could have converted both to the big ball 2005+ as I did with taillights but I f'd that one up. Trying to do a best of breed / minimize mistakes.

Any advice welcome. I think I'm nearing completion of this '02 build really, minus all the lighting and electrical and such.

 

Bump stops. Prolly don't need to go as far as hydrobumps, but something like Durobumps or Timbrens.

 

Durobumps were ordered but likely in the package which went to the scammer. @memario1214 can confirm. I may have to re-buy them.

 

For the rear too? Meant rear bump stops specifically. On the rears you need to loosen the u-bolts, so when you do the leafs is the perfect time to do them.

Fronts can be changed out much easier without removing any other parts.

 

Archive has a decent set up for their rear bumps if he gets their u bolt kit I think

 

I was thinking similar. I've been using the little shaft rubber on my shocks as a guide as to how far they are compressing. I never got under 1-1/2" of remaining shock shaft on compression until I loaded heavy and hit them hard. They just I bottomed them out under load and although it was a kiss and not a hard clunk, I'm spacing my rear bumps higher. I think that will be perfect. But to @des2mtn 's point, good bump stops set at the right height can be pretty crucial.

 

The Archive u-bolt flip allows for several brands of bump stops - I'm using theirs (yellow). What's nice is you have some spacer adjustment without pulling u-bolts. I'm putting in the bigger spacers in today.

edit for pic with the spacers in. Note, I think there are different top plates depending on the bumps you use. If I did it again, I would get the heaviest bumps, but these are really good as well

 

I thought it was a full set, front and rear.

 

So, U bolt flip is worth a look too?

I was bottoming out on my stock bumps when loaded and going over speed bumps, it was uncomfortable enough for me to want to swap them out. I don't think I've fully compressed the Timbrens yet (hard to tell without putting a camera back there), but I have about 1/4"-1/2" of clearance at ride height before they contact. Much less than the stock ones, the Timbrens are pretty dang tall. I've read about some dudes buying two sets and cutting one in half and putting those on when hitting the trail. Durobumps might be the same way, but I believe with Timbrens you can unscrew them from the perch that's held down by the u-bolts.

 

It's worth a look. it has been really good for me and in my setup has allowed for +1/2" of bump stop adjustment that I didn't even realize I might need when I got them.

@daveeasa, The bumps you ordered that sound like they are lost, likely work with the u-bolt flips - but you don't need the flips, it's something you could get later if you decide to and there should be an option for any of the main bump stop types.

 

Wow. That look a helluva lot better than the OEM ones stuck on with double sided tape.

 

For comparison's sake, here's what I'm working with using Timbrens.

 

Is the rubber piece bolted to the plate?

 

It's been awhile since I did the install, but I want to say yes. Pretty sure you can remove it with a 10mm allen wrench without removing the plate/ ubolts. What I was talking about in a previous reply was ordering a second set and cutting it here or maybe a bit higher to see how it feels offroad.

@des2mtn what rear springs are you running?

Then they look really good on your DC, or I should say I bet they work great.

 

They're the stockers still and they're a bit flat. Both sides have a shit-Tec add-a-leaf with both the ends sheared off. I've barely touched the rear because I've always wanted to do a cantilever setup.

They still work great, but my rear does sag.
