Im so confused

So I've got a 2019 SR5 in quicksand. And Im trying to replace the chrome hood bulge & grille surround. I was going to purchase the pro grille from sparks, but it says 14-17 models only? But Ive read other threads where people are making it work. What gives? What am I missing? Also, I don't even really need the pro grille. I like the honeycomb just fine. Would I be better off just having a body shop paint the existing parts on the truck?

18 and up has the radar sensor in the grille you have to account for. That's the difference. Typically the grille surrounds are sold WITH a grille. You might be able to by a 14-17 and swap the existing grille into the surround, but I'm not 100% positive.

 

Which pro grille you are talking about, newer or older one? The only issue if you are wanting the older one is the TSS hook up if your truck has that. Other than that they both fit.

If you buy a pro grille it should come with the surround. The Hood bulge is a separate part.

I would not mess with trying to paint that chrome; a lot of horror stories. Get it wrapped or buy replacements and have those painted.

That is the “old style” that doesn’t work with the radar sensor without an adapter. Which sometime work and sometime don’t.

Your radar sensor is currently in your Toyota emblem. The “new style” Pro grill has a slot for the radar but it requires an additional “garnish” to cover the whole of the radar. I have an eBay garnish that has worked great for over a year and paid like $35 for it. OEM garnishes are the same price as the entire grill.

 

There is a big demand (or used to be anyway) for the centerpiece of this grille (the Grille proper, if you will). I bet you'd have no trouble selling it locally or on here. Buy that piece, put your honeycomb 2019 grille (since you like it and there would be no radar/TSS issues) in with the quicksand surround and look for a quicksand hood bulge on eBay or purchase one from @Roman or @SparksParts. What you could sell that centerpiece for would likely cover the cost of the OEM or eBay bulge.

 

I believe you can get the 14-17 pro grill. with the surround and bulge in quicksand. I don’t think you can in the 18+. Some have taken the surround and bulge and replaced the grill with the honeycomb to keep the sensor in place and because they like the honeycomb look. I went with the 14-17 grill for mine and got the jomax relocation bracket. I originally had the ajt bracket and it malfunctioned regularly. Since having the jomax I haven’t had an issue…..but they don’t make it anymore.

May be cheaper to buy them unpainted or in white and have someone paint them for you. I got a bulge, surround, and mirror caps painted for 100 bucks total a couple of years ago.

 

I just replaced my MGM grill and bulge. I have an ‘18.

The easiest way to do this is to order a new bulge and a new grill assembly with the QS surround from Sparks.

PLEASE NOTE: you MUST buy the newer style radar cover (Toyota emblem) because you have a ‘19.

Toyota improved the design of the radar cover grill mount, and now they ONLY sell the new style.

The old style had 2 posts that fit into the grill mount and were held in place by two metal retaining discs. That design is prone to breakage. The new design utilizes a retaining screw.

Sparks will do a good job of verifying that your order aligns with your intent. Roman would probably do well also.

Footnote… I can’t find anyone who wants my leftover chrome grill and bulge. It’s been on Marketplace and Craigslist now over a week with zero bites. I may just yank the emblem for garage decor and throw the rest in recycling.
