we build a twin engine push-me pull-me and id be all over it. But i cant fwd. regardless of what my brain says, my heart will try to powerslide out of trouble. Almost sent my buddies srt4 off a cliff, and sent his civic si into all the cones while trying to auto-x.

 

It is when you're a "collector of stuff" (light or heavy hoarder) and get to the point where doing that requires a 1-2 day investment to get to everything once a quarter.

Those are the exact kind of situations where it can't hurt to throw out an offer. "I see all that stuff you've got there ... would you rather have $2,500 in cash instead?" which has netted me soem great stuff. Clean up the things you don't want to keep, set aside one or two you do, then re-sell the cleaned stuff to get rid of for more than you paid for the lot. In some cases, I've managed to 10x-20x my profit on something *and* get to keep the real gems out of it.

Then again, doing that too much is a very quick way to become a "collector of stuff".

 

Limited slip diff and a little practice and that FWD will pull you around a corner and out of trouble.

 

One of em does have a LSD.

 

4WD conversation w/someone at work today.

"Hey, what would happen if you, like, put your truck in 4HI and took a slow, sharp-radius turn on asphalt?"
"I dunno, I doubt I'd ever do something like that... I'm assuming it'd start binding and chunking once you turned past a certain point."

Anyway, I didn't know how to answer what, if anything, would ultimately break. I've always been told "Don't do that, in 4HI and especially not 4LO".

What actually would happen? What would be the damage?

I've had the truck in 4WD while it was dumping rain and pulled into dry parking deck before. But once I felt how tough it was to turn, I realized and turned it off.

 

i need you to get a raise and extra off-time. Id bet your neighbor would partially trade a mitsu pajero body to keep his glass in. I bring a whole 2 dr pajero for your shop buddies, and a body only to pad the utility bed trailer purchase.

 

leaving jambo i was in 4 hi and felt a drag when turning on to the highway. Clicked to rwd under 40mph and carried on for 560 miles.

i made an asphalt slow tight corner and felt resistance toward foward that alerted me something was wrong.

Right, right, I did see that one, but it's pretty scant. I'm curious what would happen if you continued? Like ... What would fail first?

For example, could the force of the tire with all that weight pushing it downward into dry asphalt causing the not wanting to move (but needing to) exceed the force splines would take, causing something to grenade? Or would something else twist/shear/snap first?

 

I should add to this, maybe.

The post I just linked has nothing to do with me asking the question above today. But based on a thread found using search on the TS forum, it sounds like my 'thud' situation is something other 1GT owners found. Still, curious what would snap/give 1st if I, say, decided to circle a street light pole on the blacktop of a Wallyworld parking lot .

 

My oval window beats that. First time it moved in 15 years was powered by Toyota.

 

Here’s todays progress on the un-fuck the rack. Included is a roll on liner on the top. That thing always got beat to shit and the clear coat was finally failing. I’ll dial it in and add the rack tomorrow.

 

So is the plan to just lower the tailgate to get thing underneath when it’s loaded on top or is that not possible?

 

Yeah - that's the tradeoff. I notched the back of the top to allow the tailgate to open, because for strength I bolted into the bed rails. So - that thing's not opening very easily. It's also partially why i got the longer load bars, to widen my footprint. I'll see how much I mind tailgate access only. Time for one of those hook bars for pulling stuff out.

 

I missed you telling us what you want to carry on that rack. If that set-up holds that weight, I’m very impressed. It certainly looks good.

I recommend a rake.

It’s too bad you couldn’t combine something like a locking roll-n-lock cover with a rack that extends to the pickup bed sides so it doesn’t interfere with operation of the locking cover.

Spare, propane tank, maybe water, etc. Hence the need for more strength than I previously had. And soon here, something like a tire would run into the cab roof and not through the back window in a crash...
I plan to upgrade some of the hardware once everything is lined up. But it should be quite solid when all is said and done.

See I totally bring a rake while camping as well, and have heard so many times, I’ve never thought to bring a rake.
But……. I bring a leaf rake, if you need a rock rake, your in the wrong area. As far as coals and fire, I have a little 2 foot Stanley shovel that is perfect.
I did take a rock rake to the river, because I knew no leaves would be present

 

I got you— but a rock rake does what yours does, and can pull heavy gear out from the cab end of a covered truck bed, so….

 

Nobody ever had too much brakes.

 

I use my full sized shovel or a ratcheting bed bar to get stuff from the front of my bed.

 

application used in Japan on something else? Get them shipped from some abroad place? ebay. dk, uk, etc?
I used to get unobtaniums from Sweden & UK.

 

that model doesn't have that awful sail-panel. Go for it.

 

Don't forget the broom. A tent must.
