I would imagine that my truck is the same as yours (ground-switched). Let me know what harness you have and I might be interested. I read through the thread you mentioned and am now asking the store "Headlight Services" out of CO. if their harness will work for the tundra. They offer a ground-switched harness but not sure if it'll work for our trucks.

You want to confirm yours is ground switched and then tell HS Mike if it is or isn't. He can do either. His stuff is premium.

The one I have is off something etsy-ish but not etsy, it's fine but not premium, I think it was around $40 ish.

    Received my harness today.

First, for someone doing this on the side - it looks like a very professional/OEM setup.

Installed tonight and managed to finish in about 20 min, taking my time. Very easy and straight forward. Works perfectly!

Thanks for a great product @daveeasa!!

Can't reiterate those two points enough: (1) Super impressed with the quality of the product, hands-down, killer. (2) Very easy and straight forward with perfect result.

Here we go folks! Ordered 3 months ago but couldn’t install because my damn truck was wrecked. Finally got it back and installed today. You tube how to remove the passenger taillight, it’s not as straightforward as I thought. Not difficult, just an extra step i didn’t anticipate. Install took 5 minutes, hardest part was getting factory connectors to come apart. Does exactly what it is supposed to do, it turns off the license plate lights in reverse. Is it life changing, no. Is it a must have, no. Does it help using the reverse camera at night, 100%. Happy with the purchase, completely and would order again.
Great product and I’m happy to support a forum member selling a useful tool for our vehicles.

this nails it. Just got mine yesterday and installed it this afternoon. Haven’t even gone anywhere with it but amazed with the ability to cleanly see in the reverse camera.
Great product, great service and shipping, great results. Here are a few pics.

Did anyone ever confirm if this works on a 2007-2013? Interested in buying one. Just upgraded to some super bright leds and the washout now is terrible. It’s actually quite difficult, almost impossible, to see out the camera in reverse.

If you take a photo of your taillight connector for the reverse bulb and the connector which feeds your license plate lights I can probably tell you what the options are.

I believe I had a failed attempt from a 2010? He did have an aftermarket bumper but I think no changes to his harness.

To identify the plate light intercept you chase the harness upstream. Once you locate it, disconnect with parking lights on to confirm.

With a photo I can probably figure out the connector and then based on locations I can estimate lengths.

More that we want to chase it upstream. Looks like a pretty good match to my 2000-2006 Tundra DIR. Does your taillight have a 6 position connector feeding all the bulbs? If you hunt through this thread I believe @shifty` posted lots of photos from his install which might help.

guess I’ll have to look more tom. I found 2 connectors under the truck with multiple wires going to it. I believe one was for the trailer hitch plug and the other seemed to be in a similar location to shiftys (where I had to pop the black piece out of frame to get better access to it) but when I unplugged that one the license plate lights remained on

On my 2002 there is a large intercept for the tow stuff and two six position (5 used) for the taillights, one on each side. And no license plate intercept. Hence the first gen DIR design. I have one built if you want to buy it and try. It should work with the plate bulbs but I’m not certain how to access your reverse signal. I could also tap off the tow connector if you’re not using it and it’s a match to the one spare I happen to have since I bought two. But I think I may not have the terminals and seals for large gauge there and ground is a thick one. I’m way behind on my Tundra tow harness build.

The taillights should have clean connectors upstream of the bulb. Because replacement taillights would plug in.

I’m 90% on your truck working with a 2000-2006 Tundra DIR kit. Take a close look at shifty’s photos in daylight underneath your truck and try to confirm the match.

    Heres the plugs I have.

Plugs in the middle which I believe are for the tow harness

    617E9645-02E2-4053-9296-049254C2D613.jpg

Then I have one of these connectors on each side which seem to be coming from the taillights.

Yeah that is the 6 position taillight connector. same as FGT.

If your bumper is stock as it seemed from the photos I’d give the 2000-2006 kit a try. I think it will work. No reason to suspect the pinouts are different on the taillight connector but that’s the lone remaining question. You only need to use the driver side taillight connector. Passenger side stays as is.

Maybe one last possibility is that the lengths for the plate light T’s are longer for your 2011. If so, you could likely just mount the relay closer. Or, if customizations are needed, your feedback could be used to generate a spec for 2007-2013.

I don’t mind being the Guinea pig but don’t want to just throw $100 away if it’s a no go. If it doesn’t work you’re ok with me trying to resell it?

I’m hoping it works though bc I can really use it!!

@jwarren2 this is the thread for the Tundra DIR product. See the first post for installation instructions which I believe should work for your 2014. Please do your best to confirm, though, because I don't have full access to a truck of every year.

For anyone following along, I believe we are close to nailing down the design for the 2007-2013 Tundra DIR.
