I bought the OEM electronic tail gate lock kit from BAM Wholesale—best price I could find at the time, $127.93.

I don’t have the time to learn to do the install myself right now. But my local dealer (Toyota Dublin CA) wants freaking $220 per hour to do it. Their standard hourly rate for any service whether mechanical or accessory install. That’s so far beyond a non-starter…

Need recommendations for other local places I can take it. Anywhere between Marin and Santa Cruz, or out to Tracy.

Would prefer a licensed shop of some kind, unless you have an alternative recommendation I can be convinced won’t be a disaster that would ruin my truck or void my warranty. :)

A teenager armed with YouTube should have it done in around :45.

The OEM is plug and play. The hardest part is fishing the wires into the cab through the trucks belly. I was able to do the install while recovering from a serious debilitating condition.

I did mine in 45 minutes, plug and play.not rocket science and there are tons of YouTube videos on it. Sometimes your truck is in better hands if you do it yourself.

Super easy install, legit plug and play. Zip tie the wires and you're done. The oem instructions are very straightforward and you don't even need to remove the heat shield like it says you do.

Why not? If it says to, why should I not do it / why isn’t it required?

it says to remove the heat shield while running the wires so you don't cut yourself but if you wear gloves or just very careful it's not necessary and will make the job much easier.

Super easy install. I didn't remove the heat shield either.

I installed a universal kit, not PnP, and it took me a couple hours.

You're entirely better off doing it yourself.
