Anyone using the Kenwood DNR1007XR Excelon Reference?

How in the heck do you do that??? I have usb and hdmi hooked up to the back.

 

What kind of phone do you have? I believe it's only available with newer androids.

 

There is a "mirroring for kenwood" app on android, unsure on iOS but I'm sure its similar.

I have used samsung Dex over the usb connection (s21 Ultra) on my 1037 a few times just to see if it would work, it plays pretty nice with every app on my phone I've tried including netflix, hulu, prime video, disney+, outlook, powerpoint, pdf editors, chrome. I also have a small handheld bluetooth keyboard I keep in the truck for typing but I can use the touch screen as a mouse.

 

I will say, the volume knob on the kenwood is a little too easy to accidentally turn the volume up or down by a WIDE margin just from grazing the knob when using the touch screen. Once you get used to it its not bad but when you add an amp and subs and are already listening at a fairly loud level, cranking it up suddenly can be pretty jarring. I haven't found any setting that would help with that, the knob just moves very freely and its doesn't take much rotation to significantly adjust the volume.

Other than that I've been very happy with mine and would absolutely do the same headunit and speakers all from tech12volts again.

Is your hdmi cable 1080p or 4k? It must be 1080p cable for screen mirroring to work. 2K, 4k cable will not work at all. You also need the lightning to hdmi adapter.

 

I think I have the wrong cable...I have the lightning adapter. Tried it yesterday and it said no signal....

 

Get the 1080p cable. It will work. i have the jvc 10” same as kenwood. I am using the 1080p cable from Monoprice and it works perfectly. I also have Amazon firestick hooked up too. Both works great.
you cannot use Carplay and screen mirroring at the same time. You HAVE to disconnect from Carplay if you want to screen mirror.

Unfortunately the one i used i could not see it in the website. The cable i have is over 5yrs old. Best i can recommend is if you had bought any hd tv before all the 2k, 4k, 8k. It usually come with a cable. Try that.

I did see that certain streaming services won't work because of copyright protection....How did you connect the firestick? I have FUBO tv on my phone I wonder if I can stream that?

Use your phone to tether internet to the firestick. Basically your phone is the hotspot for the firestick.

 

I just got this system…what will I need to be able to watch Netflix, YouTube, etc for passengers while driving?

I have an iPhone, if that makes a difference.

 

get the Amazon firestick. Add youtube and Netflix to it. Then watch it.

 

does it matter what firestick you get? I just installed a hotspot in my truck for my blackvue dash cam....maybe that will work.

 

So do you plug in the usb power cord to the side of the firestick? Is that something you have to buy seperately?

 

Your firestick will come with power cord and wall block. You dont need the wall block. Just the cord and one of those usb charger that goes into the cig port. I’m using this little guy:

Nope. It doesn’t. You just need to set it up and add the extension for youtube and Netflix. There are plenty of how to on youtube. I would set it up inside your house first. Then move it to your truck.

Also, do you know if I will I need a parking brake bypass to watch screen mirroring while driving?

 

connect the green brake wire to ground. That will bypass and let you access menu and watch while in motion.

 

I'm waiting on the Kenwood cable....I have a hot spot for my blackvue dash cam through T mobile I am hoping i can connect to. Does it matter whether car play is wired or wireless to get this to work??

 

You cannot use Carplay and HDMI at the same time. It is either one or the other. If you are using wireless carplay. You must disconnect from it in order for hdmi to work.

Yes, wireless. From what I was told when I bought the unit, the wireless mirroring is only available with newer androids. I have whatever the newest Samsung Galaxy is.

 

So I bought the Apple hdmi to lightning adapter and the hdmi cable you recommended. Is there supposed to be a hmdi port that I’m supposed to plug this into? Or do I need a hdmi-to-USB adapter that I need to get to connect the hdmi to the USB port in the dash?
