Speedo correction

With install of taller tires, can y'all recommend any plug n play unit for speedo/ mpg correction? Or can dealer use Tech stream to set the tire size?

 

Look at the Hypertech. Some folks here have them and you can adjust the tire size yourself anytime you change tires.

What size tires are you running. I run 34.5 inch tire and have not installed a calibrator yet.

 

With the title of this thread I was afraid to open and read it, was expecting this!

 

I'm running a slightly taller tire, 275/70/18 vs 275/65/18. It's not a huge difference but, 2-3% over 100k Miles adds up.

Yeah. The Hypertech is the way to go.

local-knowledge: When you install it, leave the USB cord attached, and dangle it down where you can reach it. That way if you need to tweak it later, or change to different size tires, you don't have to tear your dash apart again.

 

Bingo Bob beat me to it. I had Toyota do mine since they did the lift before I bought it. When I told the guy I wanted the cord left in there in case I needed to make adjustments he was like.... I have done dozens of these and have never thought of that what a good idea....Truth be told I think that idea came from here in a thread I read before I was a member.

If you check with the GPS speed, you will find that your speedometer matches it better than before. Stock Tundra's speedometer gives higher value than the actual speed.

This caused me to check my speedometer with a GPS this morning because I plan to Instal the Hypertech this week to adjust for the 295/70/18 I will be putting in the truck this weekend. My truck is a TRD with the 275/65/18, and in stock form, the speedometer was exactly on with the GPS.

My truck did. With the stock set up, 60mph indicated was actually 57.5-58

 

I am wondering if on my 2006 gen 1 if the tire height adjustment would help to stop my slip control from activating on turns. Toyota seems to think its being caused by the new tire height. I have done all kinds of re-cals and zero reset and steering angle resets, and yaw rate sensor shims/no shims, alignments, front bearings, and drive axle replacements, so far nothing has changed anything...

 

Exact same issue on my '05 DC. Interested in what guys have to say here.

 

I replaced the yaw rate sensor also and I got the exact same results still the same. It is funny how many of the Double cabs in 2006/05 have these issues. Toyota should have to fix these issues since this is a safety related item! I know a guy that his truck is stock and even started doing it. One guy I talked to never had any problems until he had his steering rack replaced then it started having problems. With the same tires before and after.

 

I am trying to figure out how to tap in a toggle switch to the vsc circuit. Since the 4WD button turns off VSC is it a open or closed circuit? I need to figure out signal from the 4WD diff back to the ecu that creates the open/closed circuit to signal the vsc off. If anyone has a wiring diagram that could help that would be great.

 

Wouldn’t that be amazing. I would never have it activated cause every time I try to pull out into traffic from a gravel spot it activates and I gotta wait 5seconds till the throttle kicks back in and gives me juice again before I get rear ended! Also sucks driving freeway corners at speed, truck starts to beep, and then it slams on the brakes automatically....bastards
