It looks to me that there's a little caked dirt from a very slight oil seep on the rightmost eyelet in your picture. I would not worry about it, but would keep an eye on it were I to see the same on my truck.

I’m currrntly on a test drive in it. 150k on the clock. New frame, UCA, ball joints, rear shocks, cross members, fuel tank. Would you consider buying with this weep? Passenger side. Is this def cam?

It'd be worth at least considering, but you'd need to consider the big picture and I can't do that without being there. That could possibly be seeping from the valve cover though too. A surer way would be to clean it up and do a dye test to try to better determine exactly where it's coming from.

I have a 2017 that had a similar looking pic on the driverside. I cleaned it up and monitored it, due to paranoia with this forum. I would definitely call mine a slow seep if anything. I noticed a drop, maybe of what could be oil a few weeks ago but never had anything leak onto the manifold / heat shield below, or had any oil loss for over 30k now. It seems to be more obvious that there is a “seep” after the truck sits overnight. After the engine is warm it appears dry. So my point is if you clean it up based on the pics I see, I doubt it’s an issue. If anything check it at every oil change interval but would not worry about it. Apparently, all model years from 2010 up to 2021 have had some sort of leak in that area and 9 out of 10 owners do not experience serious leaks onto the engine / related parts or ground.

I took my 2018 in to Charley's this morning for an oil change. We looked at the driver's side and the leak has reached the end of the heat shield and is about to drip off. So it goes. 26k miles.

That sucks man. I am sure I have a seep but the dealer said it was just condensation. Not sure it makes sense if the A/C run off is on the other side of the engine I believe. Been the same for about 15k so I just clean the drip I see, whether it’s oil or not. Not tearing apart my engine for this annoyance unless it worsens, like everything else with age and mileage.

If I had a 07 that looked that good, I’d be happy. I guess I’m getting to the age the I had old cars where you could use a putty knife to scrape the oil and dirt stuck to it off.

My 2018 truck just passed 48K miles. About a month ago I started smelling burnt oil when the truck was parked in the garage after driving it all day and it has continued. Today I looked into the wheel wells and saw what I believe to be leaked oil on the engine, both driver and passenger sides. I'd like to get opinions on the next steps I should take. Should I try to clean off the offending areas and see if it returns or should I just make an appointment with the local dealership and have them take a look? BTW, do dealerships charge owners for taking a look or is this something that falls under the umbrella of drivetrain warranty? The first photo is driver's side and the second is the passenger side. Driver's side.HEIC.jpg Pass side.HEIC.jpg Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Yes get it checked out at the dealer. It looks like my 15 did, they never charged me for looking at it. And they fixed both sides.

Oh man that sucks. Maybe they should of removed everything and did it right the first time, instead of finding a quicker way to fix it. What year is your truck?

Met with the service advisor at the dealership this morning. We've been watching the driver's side leak for 22k miles. It's about to drip off the heat shield, so it's time. Parts were ordered and he said he'd like to have the truck for at least a week or two.

Cab is coming off and both sides resealed although the passenger side tower is dry. The tech he assigned it to is his best friend and since no one eats breakfast, I'm bringing Left Hand 1265 and Upslope Craft lager for the crew.

My truck is a 2018 with 27k miles and about 16 months left on the powertrain warranty. Service advisor said they've done 100s of these and it's the robot's fault, as we've discussed here. He said the robot can't detect air bubbles.

Mine leaks on the passenger side enough for me to smell the oil on the heat shield on hot summer days. Hasn't got worse and don't expect it to. Definitely not having the goons at the dealership tear it apart. Will be fine.

I wasn't going to fix mine either. It's getting worse. If it gets fixed without issues, I'm getting a Magnuson supercharger that'll probably be installed by the same tech.

My position has changed a couple times during this thread. For most of the thread and since my post at 5500 miles, I didn't plan on fixing it. I also expected to be all over the new Tundra or Sequoia. If I can get through this stupid cam shaft issue, I'm throwing another $10k at my V8 and committing longer term to the 2.5.

I would have preferred coffee and a Moe's bagel sandwich. Breakfast/coffee was suggested in the Ask a Toyota mechanic thread.

    Still waiting on parts.

What you are seeing is a bit of light reflection (sheen) off of the light gray RTV. I’ve actually reached in and touched my cam towers to confirm. You are giving yourself a frigging heart attack over nothing.

How common is this on the 4.6? 2017 with 58k miles and the driver side is wet. Best picture I could get tonight. Planning on stopping by the dealership over the weekend.

Dealership found an extended warranty that we didn’t know we had. They’re fixing up both sides an estimate it’ll be done in two weeks. ignore the recommended services at the bottom.
