Need shock advice

We are on the 2021 Baja trail and I killed my front shocks yesterday. Can you recommend me what shocks would be equivalent or better than what I have?

 

4600s are stock replacements, or if you want to lift the truck there are many coilovers available. Need more info, intended use, want to lift?, budget?

 

and I am guessing, with a shock break like that....are you running a spacer level kit up front?

 

OME, Dobinsons, or Ironman shocks might be another consideration.

 

Hmm. That’s sounds right. We bought it used and I think the guy mentioned something about something to raise the front end to level it with the back.

 

It’s a daily driver but we like to have fun too. Some lift would be good and the ability to do yesterday (whoops) without breaking them again.

1,000-10,0000 just depends what you want. The sky’s the limits really. But I think to replace four shocks and front coils with a quality entry level system you’re talking 1,.200-1,500.

 

With the info you've provided so far, what @frichco228 said about a spacer lift was begging a deeper conversation. Best get that spacer lift out and put in a proper lift if you're going to be playing rough. 'Lift Kits' come in all shapes and sizes, and this forum is a great place to do research. Whatever you think your current budget is, I'd stick to the moto 'buy once, cry once' and fit the budget to the use, even if you have to take a pause on the purchase.

Since it's your daily driver, I'm betting you're in a rush to get it in some drivable shape, so if this string doesn't provide perfect info quickly, it might do to get that one shock replaced and work on the lift after. As Frank also said, and by the look of your shock, a Bilstein 4600 is the item you want for a straight replacement.

I have a Falcon levelling kit, and love it. Drawbacks for heavy use are that it's using stock springs (which you appear to have). Stock springs are comfy on the road, but not as capable as off-road aftermarket springs. The shocks are off-road ready, and again; they're really great. If you want a higher lift, though, these will only get you 2.25" without further considerations. Other folks love their various brands of shocks and lifts too; and hopefully you can draw information from their previous posts and from them directly.

6112/5160 combo would be great and you can dump that front spacer if you have one. Problem is no one has any 6112 and no one know when they will actually be in stock. I waited two months for the 6112's and ended up going with Toyota and the TRD Pro Fox kit. They were in stock and shipped quickly. Not sure if they are still available at this time. Good luck!

Yes, while the spacers not really recommended it's the lack of bump shim that caused it to fail. Spacer moves everything down, including the compressed length of the shock assembly causing it to become the bump. You wouldnt have had this failure had a bump shim been installed.

Sure is and it looks like your cam tower may also be leaking judging from the stain on your exhaust shield.
