Also looks like I’m seeing a part number of Toyota 84119-0C030 (plug in in back is black) and 84119-0C040 (plug in in back is white) when searching ebay for dimmer switches for tundras

I just bought 84119-0C041 (which was listed for a Corolla) for $16. Once it comes in and I get my cluster back in I’ll test this out and see if it indeed is the fix. I checked mine and I do have the black one currently

Maybe e30cabrio can check his dimmer out and see if the plug in on the back is white

Hmmm, I did a quick eBay search and they use it on RAV4 and corollas. I’ll swap mine out with my wife’s RAV4 and see if it does the trick. Give me a day or two!

Were you ever able to test this out?

I’ll do it later today. I was going to have the wife keep the car at home but I ended up not having time this morning to try it out.
I’ll swap them in a few hours and report back!

Awesome!! Thanks for checking! Glad it’s an easy fix. Already ordered one for $16 off eBay so will have it fully functioning when the cluster comes back in from getting programmed

I'm looking at ordering one too but not sure what the difference is between the black one and the white one. I don't see any part numbers on the actual part. I may just grab one with the white housing and see if it works.

I actually found one from a limited and verified it on ToyoDIY.com. $27 after taxes and shipping, not too bad.

Yea I think as long as it’s white you’re good to go. It’s the 84119-0C040 or 84119-0C041 that should work for it

I just made an offer and was surprised when I lowballed and they accepted

Finally got around to installing mine - everything seems to work perfectly. The mileage is about 8k higher, but I'm going to drive it anyway and see about programming my original cluster before I yank the Optitron and give that a go. It definitely doesn't dim with the headlights, but works with the dimmer dial.

Swap out your dimmer with one from a limited/platinum and that’ll fix your dimming issue! Should be a fairly cheap fix

I've been kind of passively following all that. So you mean it'll dim with the headlights on then, not just if I adjust the dial? I've just been reading on my phone all weekend... I'll catch up Monday lol

Not that I can tell. Old gauge showed about the same amount of fuel. Haven’t driven the truck or anything yet since install

Check the build link in my signature.
In the trucks that came with the optitron gages, they also have auto-on headlights and a ambient light “solar” sensor in the dash. When I swapped out the gage in my 2008 SR5 with an optitron, it DID dim with the headlights, but I had previously also added the auto-on headlights and solar sensor to the truck.

I’d be willing to bet that the optitron wants to see the signal from that solar sensor to determine when to dim.

EDIT - just saw the rest of the posts. If the dimmer switch alone fixes it, that’s great.

I added the auto headlights and that didn’t do it. It’s definitely the dimmer switch that needs to be swapped out. I can’t say why that is though

It's such a nicer, more pleasant, less bleeding-eye inducing experience to drive with the Optitron, isn't it? :)

I need to remove the blue flux on the chip yet and play with my stock cluster to see if I can get it programmed, but I have the starting mileage on the original cluster and will adjust as necessary. Worst-case, if for some reason I can't figure it out I can send it out to get it programmed...

Okay...well I found one on Ebay, made an offer, and we settled at $18 delivered. Dimming Optitron here I come!

I will be following for outcome. I don’t have auto headlights but for $20 I would like a dimming Optitron.

Okay...hit my wall here...can't for the life of me figure out where the mileage data is in this block. The reader seems to work fine and reads the chip, but there's nothing I can see that aligns with the hex conversion I came up with.

I haven't been able to figure out how to get the EZP2019 to work with any other software yet either...no-go on NeoProg and PonyProg.

What program did you use? The mileage is usually stored on the first two lines.

The one that came with the EZP2019. No other programs seem to work with it.
