Thank you. I just read your post. I also have concerns about a sawzaw blade being able to cut the cats from the side plates. From the pictures, it doesn’t seem full proof and more of a deterrent.
I’m still on the fence about the kit just of the price. I wish it was a little cheaper.

 

Does anyone know how the precious metals are harvested out of the cats? It seems to me that it would be a mechanical process and the paint on the exterior isn't any sort of barrier to the process. My point is: just what sort of deterrent is the paint? Do scrap metal buyers care if the metal has a light finish on it? Is the painting idea just a silly internet story that provides no barrier at all to processing the precious metals?

 

I never understood the paint deterrent.

 

The reasoning is to bring to attention that the cat is serialized and can be traced back as a stolen item. It's not fool proof or a guaranteed deterrent, but cheap and easy and possibly better than nothing at all.
