Fawk! That’s gotta hurt. I know that’s your baby that started it all. Be thankful, it coulda been a lot worse. Pops has been slayin em this year, no? I had the same thought as @NWPirate and @Lil Steve, set the ol’man up in a decent snowplow and problem solved. I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad, but it definitely did not look like a fatal tag to me….. keep drivin,….. haha

So…. I’m gonna be tinting my windows and was on the fence between 5% and 20%. I’d like the 5 during the day but afraid it will be too dark to see out at night. Anybody have good/bad things to say about either. @0h6SR5, how you liking the 5%? Can you see out at night or is it too dark?

Finally got a fuse kit and wired it up to my accessory fuse, works like a charm. Now on to tuning this bad boy. Just wish R9K would ship me back my tuned ECU or if DAP Tuning would return my emails.

Me too, I feel like my last tune on just an AFE CAI and basic exhaust didn't gain me anything, even with the URD MAF Calibrator. Now with my current set up, I should see huge gains.

I need to find an spare ecu. I’ve got a buddy that’s willing to toy with it. He’s done good extracting 300whp out of a 268crank hp 3.5l. He thinks there may be some small gains in the 4.7s to be had.

The biggest gains from the 3.5 were exhaust restrictions (obviously) and a tuned MAF pipe with a velocity stack and properly tuned ECU. Removal of catalyst over temp protections too (not sure if the 4.7 has those)

DAP claims 20 HP gains across the power band but no specifics on what bolt ons you need. Which I have pretty much all. Plus he can remote tune to improve even more. I just think he's too busy or backed up to return emails. Going to try calling him next week.

Please do report back. I’m still interested in getting as much out of this motor without boost or anything too crazy. (For now)

So I have 3 cars and I’ve tried different combos on them. My daily is 5/35 it does the job I can still see day or night. My Tacoma I just got rid of I had 5/25 I liked the look better looking at the vehicle from outside but for the most part I could still make things out through the windows. My tundra I just said yolo 5/5 it looks super cool from the outside. I actually just got home from dinner and it was a little difficult seeing things at corners when I’m turning. It was a dark part of town though. During the day it’s fine for me. Only thing is here in CA cops are problem with tint in the front windows. Newer cars seem to get away with it the most but I’ll see how it goes for me. Always good to have a cop buddy to sign it off. I hope that helps

Received my Skid Row Off Road transmission skid plate and cat guards today. Thought something might be missing when I saw the box like this but all was well.

The first thing I noticed was the cat guards are not as thick as the skid plate. The skid plate is 3/16" and the guards are 1/8". The skid plate is 35lbs and the guards are a total of 6lbs.

It comes with carrige bolts to attach the cat guards to the skid plate, I used lock nuts instead of the regular 5/16" nuts it came with.

The front of the skid plate mounts to existing threaded holes in the front cross member, 2 holes have to be drilled in the transmission cross member to attach the rear of the skid plate using strut channel nuts inside the cross member. The instructions call for the 2 drilled holes to be 3/8" but 7/16" worked better for me because of the slight angle of the cross member, not sure if 4wd cross members have a flatter surface at that point. The included 3/8" bolts were too long, I had some shorter hardware that worked more betta.

The New Yorker in me feels there is room for improvement to make it even more difficult to get to the precious cats.

I might end up having more material welded to the cat guards to extend them, and maybe even covering the vent slots since a Sawzall blade can easily fit through.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the purchase, the skid plate is decently heavy and nicely powder coated. Are my cats now theft-proof? No, but it's better than no protection. I'll either replace the attaching hardware with something tamper resistant or even tack weld them to the skid plate for starters and maybe extend the guards and cover the slots with a plate, we'll see.

Work had me stay over two hours extra because a guy on first is out for surgery (gallbladder issues)

Clocked out, and headed to the Deer killer. Requested that pops park out of the cameras. Popped the hood (a big NO NO even off the clock) and inspected quickly. Radiator support is intact, and not crumpled. Fender where it meets the engine bay has been pulled out towards the passengers side. Think I can loosen those bolts, and slide it back into place.

    The bumper? A lost cause.

Checked the headlights. Didn't bother looking at the brackets. Those always break. Always. Pops hit that deer so hard that it completely unplugged the passengers side headlight. Plugged back up. Bueno.

Finnagled the drivers side headlight. My headlight resistor connector is loose. Need to order another set of ceramic if I can't get the metal connections inside of it bent.

Moral of the story, truck is mostly OK. Headlights work again. More bueno. Pops has been driving it with one fog light, and my upgraded switch back turn signals with my light bars as driving lights.

I had a car with 35/35/20. It was a bit difficult to see out the rear when reversing at night. All depends on how bright your reverse lights are though. That was on a 90 SHO. I went with that to keep the side windows the same. I'll do it on my 91 eventually. The tundra just has 35 all around. No issues there.

When I saw this video, all I could think about is how you need a full-on Australian road train light set up. I used to commute 60 miles through elk country in Northern AZ before dawn in my first FGT with 3 Hella 4000s on the front. I could see those MFers from a mile away. Glad the truck seems mostly unscathed!

I am thinking the same but wish they had a more mellow less high clearance and lighter weight option more like the hybrid aluminum / steel Taco option. I may not go with a winch for a while and I’d like cleaner lines more than the tilted kilt approach angle high clearance look. Or at least some sort of removable lower panel to hide the nuts.

Speaking of those suckers today in the morning i was driving on my way to work and i travel on a dark road that is heavily populated by deer see one that just got some time with that night and I start thinking wonder if deer sleep or wake up early and little do i see mile up the road two deer dead smack in the middle i literally swerve and missed them thank. Lesson learned do not sleep so from now on i will travel slowly on my commute to work and my way home.

Fabbed up a tailgate cover for the ol boy. Didn't have one when I bought it. A new one online was running $180ish. This cost me $20. Got that "custom" look and I gained 3.5 RWHP.

On tailgate covers I went with mountain hatch. Added some weight and my dog skids pretty well on it but preferable for the okole. The Oem panel was bending into the latch rods causing binding. I bent it back but it’s just so laughable I couldn’t stand it.

of course now my tailgate is super heavy so I need a torsion rod install.
