OEM filters with Mobil 1 Extended Performance Full Synthetic (5W-30).

But it's worth noting I've only had the truck for the last 10% or so of its miles, and the Toyota dealership fully serviced when I bought it, I'm assuming with dino/non-syn. So the change to full syn happened within the last 2k-3k miles or so, and I don't believe it's possible that buildup happened within the last 3k miles.

I won't name the specific express oil change place he used, but the PO was in Wedowee, and service records I could piece together show they were on a reasonably regular maintenance schedule, but only list the weight, not the type. Going by the service cost, I'm guessing it had to be dino.

If you saw the size of some of the stuff that came out of the covers, it'd raise an eyebrow. I'm interested in understanding why the driver side bank is so rough, while the passenger side looks at least remotely acceptable, similar story to @txagg. Maybe the oil fill tube holds steam which cools that side faster causing the oil to season things?

Anyway, whatever it may be, I'll be buying a couple of liters of LiquiMoly to flush, doing my next couple of changes with cheaper dino and engine flush after 800-1200 miles. I'll try to scope some pics of the head before/after to see how well it tackles the varnish. My oil pressure remains reasonable, so I don't think anything is clogged (yet).

I was wondering if Seafoam in the oil would help..?

I actually did Seafoam treatment during my 1st oil change owning the truck. But regular Seafoam is just good for general loosening of deposits, it won't de-varnish stuff. They make a special engine flush product for that, specifically.

For something like this, you'd need a gasket-safe engine flush that will de-varnish things without destroying any internal seals and whatnot. Ze Germans have that down.

I did the Liquid Molly engine flush a few years ago. It came out blacker than anything even @Darkness has seen.

I've had LM fix a compression issue with at least one engine in the past, and mine isn't an unusual story. I use Seafoam religiously as a general cleaner between oil changes and in my yard/house small engine tanks.

I've never used it as a de-varnisher, but I've also never seen a properly-lubed head look this bad. When I opened it up, I honestly thought fresh oil wasn't making it to the head, no other explanation. I immediately remembered what txagg posted with his driver side head, but his was about half as bad.

I never expected to have this many oil-related quirks at purchase.

There was a screen printing place in deer park that made stickers in any shape and size you want. They even did metallics.

i had em make my numberplates when i was raced dirtbikes. I need em to get em to make me a big buell emblem sticker, cause the shop that does it up here said they wouldnt do logo’s.

Changed out my front/rear diff, transfer case oil, transmission drain and fill and finally got around to putting my temporary hood and grill on while I get the ol sunburnt one prepped for paint. Wondering if I qualify for the 2 tone Tundra thread now :D

Dash, kick panels, and center console plus a broke door (but a good insert to reupholster) came today. The driver side lower dash piece is gouged a bit but totally useable. All in all for the price it’s solid stuff. He didn’t charge for the door panel. So that’s nice
The steering column trim is scratched up on the bottom side. But that should be fine. Now all I need are to get the rest of the hood door panels and some seats. The rest painted black will match well enough for now till reg cab parts pop up

Hahahaha very astute observation good sir, the hood was sitting on the side of my house for 3-4 months until I got around to it so there were little bits of dirt and clay on the edges that I couldn’t stand being in the picture. My gallon jug of water sacrificed itself for the greater good:sadviolin:

Ordered the extended travel cv axles from RA. I don't remember if anyone else has tried them yet, so if not I'll guinea pig them. The trackmotive brand only had one available, so I got the FVP ones with the same part #.

Seriously, this would look so good if everything was that dark gray metallic color above the red line here. Shouldn't be too spendy to get a shop to do the work, either. Have them pin-stripe a separating line in some color they know will punctuate it without standing out. (obviously not maroon like shown here)

I found a shop here that won't do US flags. Owner a former marine of 30 years service before retiring and opening a sign store. I thought he was kidding, but quickly realized he was very serious about it.

"US Code is pretty clear about desecration of the flag. Nobody gives a damn about that stuff anymore, it's pathetic". His words, not mine.

Not the same situation as the 'ol criss-cross apple sauce above, more about sign printing shops than anything.

That actually does look pretty awesome, I guess I hadn't really thought about making it any different than what it once was....I'm just keeping it simple because we're using the booth on the weekend when no one else is around for the low low price of a bottle of Jameson and materials haha

I'll probably pull the mirrors off to remove the old plasti-dip and color match along with the oxidized fender flares when the hood is in.

I've been in for 17 now and wouldn't think twice about it, idk some people just take that stuff(and themselves) too seriously, probably tucks his polo shirt into his khaki's and still has a raging high and tight lol

So fresh, and so clean. Jet dry really does help with water spots.

the titans silver is so much easier. Just keep the wheels, tires, and innards clean and you can go months without washing the paint.

Ordered a beefy looking coil compressor. I have the updated lower coil mounts that I need to swap onto my Fox coilovers, this compressor should do the trick. In the distant future I'm going to get a nitrogen tank and start playing with the valving on my shocks so the compressor will come in handy later. I may do a little bit of a tool review here if it works out well.

Tool was $165 which seemed good. Shipping is $37 for ground, ouchole!
