Counterfeit Denso Spark Plugs

I posted this in the 1st gen section but wanted to get the message out to a broader audience.

Simply put, if you have purchased spark plugs from eBay or Amazon you may want to check them. I started reading horror stories here a month ago and remembered I had purchased spark plugs for our 2012 Rav4 from eBay. They were counterfeit and I narrowly avoided disaster.

The center electrode was worn down to a nub after only 20k miles and the gap was twice the required distance.

But the worst part is the ground electrode on 2 of the plugs is split. I actually tapped it with a screwdriver and it crumbled.

I have no doubt that parts of this have fallen off into the engine over the last 18 months but I seem to have caught it before disaster struck. @ColoradoTJ can tell you what happens if you don't catch it in time.

Anyways, the pictures speak for themselves.

How is it Amazon still allows this crap to be sold?

 

Moral of the story, if you want OEM order from a dealer, they're only good for that and warranty work...

I detest Amazon and gladly pay more just not to use those hacks…

 

They have gone downhill very rapidly in the last few years.

 

You know it is really bad when Hagrid is limited to a one word reply.

 

I say the same thing about posts on FB. I live by the old saying "if it sounds too good to be true it probably is". I see scam posts on FB all the time. There are 2 common ones. $1000 fishfinders for $79 and Honda generators.

 

Those aren't Denso Iridiums. That's the only Denso plug to buy.

I bought a set of plugs just over a month ago. I too read some horror stories and was concerned where to buy legit plugs from. Ended up getting a set from URD.

 

You are correct. Those look like copper plugs.

 

Mo-fuggs be unscrupulous.

Amazon wants a piece of any and all action.

Consumers are easily lead astray by "great deals"
