If/when I can get it to work and I'm comfortable with it for sure. Until then, I'm nervously awaiting my opportunity to try it and hope I don't brick my cluster :D

I do need to download the programs yet as well and figure out which one works. I've got my fingers crossed that the voltage is enough to work. The whole reason I got this unit vs. the one in all the videos is that it seems like it's essentially the exact same thing, but natively 3.3-5V for programming, as it includes all the adapters to step the voltage down, depending on which chip you're attempting to program. It seemed (yet to be proven) like a simpler option on the whole. I'm not any sort of engineer and have zero background on these things, but I suppose there are ways I could test it prior to giving it a try on my cluster itself. The chips themselves seem relatively cheap and I'd imagine my multimeter would tell me what the voltage is reading on the programmer itself, if I can figure out where to test it for output voltage.

So I have everything that is needed in terms of HW to program the odo chips. I do have the software to program it. I'll solder the adapter chip and then anyone willing to try out the programming I'll be willing to help. I should be done this week with the HW mods needed.

I programming the chip on the odo is very doable. Let me know who want to do this and we'll make it happen.

Which software programs are you using? If I'm recalling correctly, you're using the USB programmer in most of the videos?

I have the CD that came with it for drivers, etc., but I need to copy that on my laptop and transfer it to my desktop. I'm not sure it'll work on older Windows OS, like the one I use for Techstream...

The driver for the USB reader should be in the driver folder when you download the program for the reader. I have ASProgrammer and NeoProgrammer and both of them have the driver folder for the USB reader.
ASProgrammer didn’t read my chip but Neoprogrammer did.
I haven’t attempted to write on the chip to adjust the mileage yet. I’ll wait until I have spare chips to write on first in case it gets bricked or something.

Yeah you don't need techstream to program this. You need what @Tundra3k has mentioned. And the supporting HW in this case is the chip programmer. Which I think you already have.

Btw I do have TS too but no relation to programming the odo here.

Sorry, I meant the laptop I have TS on is the only one I have currently that has a CD drive on it where I could use the included software. And I'd run it off that laptop, but the OS is an older version in order to get TS to run with the current VCI cable I have. The two were unrelated :)

I'm sure I can easily download the software somewhere still. It seems like the EZP2019 is a fairly common unit for people to use in general for computer programming.

I got my package of white LEDs and will be swapping out the amber ones on my old cluster. Stay tuned!

I haven’t installed the cluster yet. I have to get my truck back from the body shop since i hit a deer. Plus the mileage is about 7k more than I currently have. Once the truck is back in my possession and the mileage matches I’ll put it in and see what happens

Before and after pics! And progress pics!

I'm curious to see the variance in brightness from the original orange to the white. Are you going to change the color on the needles too?

The suspense is killing us, you know :D

I'll keep digging as I've got more time, but with the weather getting nice here for the next couple/few days, I may try and get some stuff done on the truck, like rotating the tires, testing the cluster, etc.

Fair enough...I'm going to play around with mine when I get that far, probably go blue. If it turns out I may swap the Optitron for blue as well. Did you plug it back in to get the preview, or just set it up with 12v power?

I set mine up with 12v since I had the plug when I bought my optitron cluster.

I gathered up the courage and decided to program my chip from my old cluster to 100,000 miles for testing purposes and had success! It shows 99,976 which is close enough for me! The mileage was 98,922 before I programmed it.
I desoldered my chip, programmed it, and reinstalled it. I used this video as a reference to set up the programmer and programs as well. All of the information will apply to the Tundra as well (tested on my 2012). The only difference was that I had to use Neoprogrammer instead of ASprogrammer. It’s pretty much the same program but the updated version.

Huh...so that's interesting that it's off by the 4 miles. I guess there must be some sort of logic built in there where it reads those "unknown" F F bits and incorporates those into the total, and it could be +/- vs. the other known bits to program. Interesting.

My distance to empty is starting to look more accurate. I reset my trip A to keep track and it’s just about there!

I ended up picking up an optitron cluster from a 2011 5.7 with tow package

Seems to work in my 4.6 fine. Just packaged it up to send it out for programming. Going to order a new lens for it as this one is all dirty and scratched up.

mall in it’ll be about $300 for it, hopefully it’ll be worth it once I can see the truck all put back together and it at night time.

one question though I don’t think it dimmed when I turned headlights on, is that normal

Would you mind sending me the VINs from your and the donor truck? Putting together a list of cases with known compatibility and issues. Thanks!!

Regarding the dimming...I'm honestly not sure on that one.

For those who did the optitron swap does it don with your headlights? My current orange cluster dims but when I plugged the new optitron cluster in I don’t think it dimmed. I can’t tell if it was bc it was during the day and the lens was tinted or if it just didn’t dim

I already shipped it off to be programmed so won’t be able to know for sure until I have it back and get it all hooked back up

In my Limited that has it stock the brightness with lights on depends on the dimmer switch.

so when headlights kick on does it dim it down based on what dimmer switch brightness is set at or it’s always the same brightness regardless of headlights on/off and you adjust it with dimmer switch?

In my case it gets dimmer because I have the switch low. It goes where the switch is set.

Mine does not dim when the headlights turn on. The only adjustment is the dimming dial by the turn signal stick.

thanks. I was pretty sure it didn’t dim

interesting that it seems if you have it from the factory it seems to dim but if you added it it doesn’t

Interesting... I'd assume it's a fairly simple thing like a signal from a wire, but maybe there's more to it. Hopefully someone else can chime in that may be more familiar with the wiring diagram could offer a solution.

does the brightness bother you at all at night? do you have to adjust it down? Or have you found a happy medium day/night brightness that works?

Doesn’t really bother me, I dim it if needed. I had to go through some hoops with mine to have it programmed right because the first guy screwed up lol. I’m just happy that it works!

Did a quick search on google and found a write up that seems to relate to this issue on another tundra forum. It mentions replacing this part(or jumping the wiring):

Instrument Light Rheostat - Toyota 84119-0C041

so the dimmer switch must also be different on the limited tundras
