$90 for the desert seat lifter shims?

Seems kinda pricey for a couple of milled and tapped aluminum shims. Has anyone tried cutting off the two nubs on the bottom of the seat mount and just putting in washers or large spacers?

 

you could do it. All you would need is some aluminum cubes, but with the fab work and the safety aspect in mind, is $90 bucks really that big of an investment? Once you put them in and feel the difference, you will be glad you spend the money.

 

i know....for a couple of pieces of aluminum, you should prob just make your own. unless you can't, then i'd pay someone 90 to make sure it's done right and i'm comfy.

I know, I will probably eat it and order them. I am getting older and I like to yell at clouds and complain that gas was only $0.89 cents when I started driving.

 

A tank of gas is literally cheaper, and they're actually more complicated than I was thinking they were, $90 seems like a deal.

 

You can order some knockoffs for like half the price, but I just ordered from them to support their business. Just installed them yesterday and haven’t had a chance to really drive with them in. Sitting in the seat did feel better though!

Well I have about $70 in it, including fire extinguisher, and that's for doing both front seats.

 

worth the $ and peace of mind in safety vs just adding some washers. One of those upgrades I wish I did earlier.

The safety is in the hardened spec bolts used for this application not the spacers.

 

Hardness doesn't necessarily contribute to strength. It looks like those spacers index to the seats and the body mount to transfer load, if that's the case then the geometry is arguably more important than the bolts are.

So I purchased the shims, they arrived yesterday and I installed them this AM before work. While driving to work I just don't feel that they make a huge life changing difference like some people mentioned. They are OK and maybe I will grow to like them and maybe I was used to the tilted seat? I have always felt and still feel like I am sitting up too high in the Tundra seat and that the whole seat needs to drop down about 3 inches.

 

Support their business for that price.. cmon...even if it was my bro I would be like cmon man..

I have them and after three back surgeries including fusion, I can say that the desert jackers work very well for me and make my daily commute much more comfortable. I have seen some of the homemade versions and in my opinion none of them look as good as the desert does it product. To each their own, but I would much rather spend a little more money on a much more aesthetically pleasing product and support a vendor who invests a lot of time and effort in providing mods for our trucks.

 

It took a few days to get used to them but now I can't imagine not having them. btw i cant get comfortable in the passenger seat that does not have the seat jackers.

Anyways, I'm glad I made this purchase. Happy to support a small business that makes a good product for the first gen. The first gen power seat mounts are a little bit more complicated than just putting a chunk of metal underneath, and installation of these took me five minutes. The seat jackers have been an improvement in the comfort department for me.

 

With an inseam of 32 to 36 you would be okay, anything less than 30 might need a thicker sole on your shoes to pour on the coal. A back cushion might also work.

 

I have a 30 inseam, I have my seat adjusted and have no issues with reaching the pedals .
