I am still undecided. Really wanted to like the new Tundra but so far I am not seeing Toyota QDR on consistent display, the packaging/pricing doesn’t impress me, the iForceMax can’t match the Ford PowerBoost fuel efficiency numbers, and availability seems extremely limited.

I will wait awhile longer and see if Toyota manages to address the shortcomings in a timely manner. If not I will spend my money elsewhere.

That F150 has a lot of onboard power, which I like. Googled it just now and I bet it has the "Pro Power" 2kW inverter. Available pretty cheap optional on non-hybrids. Hybrids get 2.4kW or 7.2kW, and still a pretty cheap option.

So Ford 2000 vs Toyota 400. Toyota really should get a power option available. And, ahem, tow hooks.

thats a large reason I'm thinking about testing one, powerboost hybrid with the 7.2 built in generator, what a great truck feature.

would love that when I go up north fishing where the power goes out often for starters

Any thoughts on what you might look at getting if you decide not to go with a Tundra?

Back in Nov. 2019 I rented a 2020 f150 LXT with the 10 speed and drive it up to the mountains. I had the truck for 4 day and put about 200 miles on it.

The 5.0L V8 was adequate, but the transmission shifted badly and made noises. I don't know how Ford can say it was rated to tow 11,000 lbs.

It Truck also had stop start on it, which drove my crazy. The F150 had about 10,000 miles on it.

The next week I went and bought the 2020 SR5 and have had no issues.

P.S. I understand now there is a class action lawsuit for the F150 with the 10 speed transmission.

Even 2kW is nice on non-hybrids with 115V outlets on the dash, back of the console, and in the bed. Plus 12V outlets and USB's. "Survey" Sweers says their customers don't need/want it, and here we are with 400W max derived from a 2005 Tacoma. And not available on an SR5 with TRDOR package, SMH.

I was concerned about the backseat in our 2022 Tundra SR5 CrewMax, because we travel with two 50 lb pups. We took some dog beds and layered them on the floor board and used a flannel sheet to cover the seat bottoms. Works pretty dang good. Gives the dogs plenty of room and they are not stuck down low with no where to easily look out the windows. Also started using those safety straps that lock into the seat belt hardware.

I am considering kind of divergent routes based on my wants and needs/family wants needs.

If Toyota doesn’t right the Tundra ship, and I think I can just keep the 2007 for strictly “truck” tasks like hauling and homeowner chores I might not even bother looking at other trucks.

Maybe a good sized body on frame SUV like the Sequoia. I think the Sequoia is a better SUV than the current Tundra is a 1/2 ton pickup. If not a Sequoia perhaps a 4Runner or Lexus GX.

I expect Toyota will totally screw the pooch with the 4Runner by sticking a 4 cylinder in it because they don’t want to step on Lexus GX sales by offering an engine that doesn’t suck dick. So the GX might just be the ticket since it will be Land Cruiser Prado under the skin with a capable full time 4X4 drive train, and a V35A of some description. I can put the wife and kid in that year round and not worry about my wife and her inability to operate anything more complicated than an automatic transmission. She freaks out about when to select 4X4 or not so her default is drive around in 4X4 if it snows… even if it’s not sticking to the ground.

Hehe, yeah. Razor and some AA and AAA rechargeable batteries. Maybe battery power tools but that's some slooooow charging without the amperage. Been there done that and expected more.

    lol.

and what's even dumber is they have like 1500 watts in the Sienna, so they should at least have given us that.

Well it’s very evident that Toyota did the absolute bare minimum to redesign the 3rd Gen. It’s all about maximum asking price and minimum features content they can offer while still selling trucks. Every manufacturer does it, but Toyota is pushing the boundaries on low value for the money with this one.

Helps increase their profit margins on each unit sold. So far the market is rewarding them handsomely for skimping on features.

We got one of these for the wife's car and it ended up getting stuck so I had to pull up the seat and replace the seatbelt clip.

I really hate the fact I may need to entertain domestics in a few years if Toyota doesn’t turn this new design around. I am a Toyota fan but this thing and my wife’s new Highlander have been disappointing.

They are. I liked our 2010. Bullet proof.
I went in with a plan to buy a 2019. My wife just had to have the all new 2020.

What kind of issues are you guys seeing? I don't think we're likely to buy one but my wife keeps changing her mind as to what she wants for her next vehicle so I'm trying to keep my ears open.

It’s loud, seating seems small, and has QC issues. I haven’t been in one in a year but that’s what I remember. I just wasn’t impressed at all.

The radio has had a bunch of problems. It won’t stay on Fahrenheit. We bring it in and they say “oh we flashed it, it’s good” and as soon as we leave it’s back again.
The biggest issue though is we are going back again for the third time due to hard long starts. They reflashed once and now changed the fuel pump. After the fuel pump it’s worse than ever. It goes back tomorrow. The advisor said Toyota came out because they are seeing this issue a lot. 6 trips to the dealer on a two year old vehicle. I’m not impressed.

To have something already on the shelf and not even put it as an option on the new Tundra is just mind boggling. The tailgate button integrated in the rear light is a great idea but then they leave off tow hooks. I don't get it.

I believe they fixed the Cam Phaser issue on '21+. But yeah the 10 speed is the one thing that gave me pause when I ordered my truck.

    Very complex.

Also very versatile. I'm an onboard wattage geek so 7.2kW interests me. We boondock often for five days with a travel trailer and carry a generator. Onboard wattage replaces the generator and fuel cans for it. Here's some vids powering an RV. 4kW would be fine for me, we'll see if Toyota steps up to the plate. I'm wary of Ford in general but I would like to see Toyota step up a bit instead of the anemic 400W.

Re: Power avail in the bed 400w why not use the higher wattage Sienna inverter. Maybe they were worried about running down the battery on a non-hybrid and the hybrid was not ready in time.
Does the Sienna inverter pull power from the regular battery ?
There is always a reason something does not get done or comes out at what seems as subpar.
For example, the reason there is no power down rear window in the DC, is because there is not enough clearance for the motor in the back seat.

And then something may get done or not done due to a bean counter's decision.
    The accountants.
    Toyota is responsible to shareholders.

The larger inverter was a huge deal for me too. The 400W in my Tacoma is useless. But with the Tremor I have on order, I can plug in my boat's 12V/36V onboard charger while driving.
