What have you done to your 2nd gen Tundra today?

The one I grabbed was from a 2WD, not sure if it's the same as 4WD.

 

It probably won't have the indicators for 4WD hi/lo, naturally.

 

I’m so glad mine came with Optitron. My brain hurts from the last couple of days and I have only been skim reading.

 

I got something else going on in the journey converting the dash to black. Climate controls came in yesterday and looking closer the defrost button on the black knobs compared to my grey knob button looks different. The black appears to be a side view mirror defrost only. I’m assuming these controls are for a DC without the defrosters on the rear glass. I’m thinking about just swapping the knobs to avoid losing defrost on the back glass. Does anyone have any experience on these climate controls. TIA!

 

The fact that it specifies makes me think there is a difference. Probably just the indicators.

 

How would you swap the fan ring? I haven't taken my climate control unit out in awhile. Can the fan-strength ring be removed without breakage?

 

Roll the dice and swap it like it's hot!

Obviously I have no skin in the game, but my virtual money is on the button activating both the side mirrors and rear glass in a CM

I may just do that so we can have a definitive answer here. However the fascia on my current one has a bit less scratches. So I may try the dial swap after the first plug in attempt.

 

Ah. That makes sense.

Was going to say, why risk breakage swapping the dials, but it sounds like it will be of use/worth the risk.

New to the group so I just wanted to slowly update on the upgrades I've done to the truck.
Retrofitted some projectors from the Retrofit Source. It leaked the first time sealing it and I put it all back to stock after the frustration. After some time, I took them apart again and re-sealed it with a thick layer of butyl rubber instead of stretching it out like how they were in the instruction videos. Took it to the car wash and it didn't show any signs of a water leak so they're staying on the truck lol.
If I had to do it all over again, I'd fork out the money for a set of Morimoto's and a really good explanation to the wife on why I needed them haha.
Oh yeah, don't be a dummy like me and paint your hi beam reflector bowl. I had to find a projector type bulb to fit in there as my hi beam, along with the bi-xenon function of the projectors.

Here’s an update for this. There is 3 plastic welded tabs holding the fan speed ring in place.

 

Interesting. Looks like drilling/dremeling the backside of those plastic welds and using a few dabs of epoxy after the swap would probably do the trick. Bummer it wasn't just clipped in. Thanks for the update!

 

Yes I think you are probably right on the epoxy. I am going to try to polish up the front fascia before I try to remove the ring.

 

Today I replaced the bad lock motor in my rear passenger door, and changed the oil and filter.

 

Checked the torque on my rear sway bar and U-bolts from my sumo spring install. The only thing that budged were the little U-bolts on the sway bar mounts. Changed the oil on the tundra and the sienna.

My wife rolled her eyes when she saw it was for "hard working engines". My truck only gets a real workout a few times a year.

 

I put Schaffer’s in my truck. By the time I buy the oil and filter I think it’s as much as someone would charge to do it but as far as the Mrs. is concerned we are saving money cause I am doing it.

 

Wired up my inverter and have a tie-down track ready to be installed, but I ran out of daylight to install it. Unfortunately, as seen by the voltage meter my battery no longer wants to play nice. That picture was taken right after I shut my truck off so the readout should be closer to 12.6 and if I run the lights in my bed I can watch the voltage tick down like a countdown which is not good. I have not had any problems with starting the truck yet but I have a feeling it is only a matter of time at this point. The battery is about 5 years old now so it is the right time for me to be in the market for a new one.




Most exciting of all though, I replaced a burnt out brake light!!

 

I did my own as well, and made a huge mess when the oil bounced off the pan and into the left wheel. I actually had oil splatter through the spokes and onto the ground in front of the wheel.

 

I'm sitting here imagining that but my tired mind is making it quite comical. Kind of like a Tom and Jerry skit.

 

I think I am going to install a Fumoto valve next time I do it to make it easier and mess free.

 

It was ridiculous to watch it unfold. My garage floor absorbed alot of oil today between that and the sienna blunder with the new oil filter housing drain tool. (The hose was too long and ended up out of the pan)

Yeah, that crossed my mind. Not sure how I could have prevented what happened yet (and this isn't even my first Tundra oil change). That oil comes out quick for the first few seconds, and laterally. It skipped right off the pan. And into the lower ball joint area. I had oil streaming down the sidewall of my tire.

 

I keep my empty shop towel rolls for just this reason. Makes a nice funnel to guide the oil into its receptacle.

Works better than my hand, which i used the first time i changed the tundras oil and realized it was a problem.

 

Great thought. I also wonder if the last time I changed it, unused a simple pan instead of the reservoir type with a really shallow lip like I used today.

is it safe to assume you are prepping your truck for a ghostbusters sequel or are there other valid uses for that equipment that I’m unaware of

 

Just cut the drain hose so it hits the pan. Do you have the valve to screw into housing, easy open and close to drain , no fuss no mess at all.

 

Just changed the oil myself for the first time this morning. Used the same oil!

This is the first vehicle I’ve had where changing the oil wasn’t a PIA to get under, so I did it myself.

 

I cut it way down after my little adventure.

How much did you put in? I put in a little over 8qts. It's right below the full mark on the dipstick after sitting all night.
