Nope.....no ADD...maybe OCD...lol. Just the bottom is cut off if its installed in the way that the instructions state. It is a tight fit in there though.

I did this same thing and when mine cracked on both ends it was in the line of where I trimmed. It will fit in there but the brackets have to be set just right. The templates leave much to be desired also. When mine cracked I used a Dremel and cut it off so I can see what I need to do to make it work the next time. So it was a hood bulge I cut at both ends at the opening fully exposing the light bar and brackets.

This is one light bar I’m not messing with. Lol. Just going to add the one in the bumper and done.

@memario1214 did you order a spare hood bulge to have on hand specifically for the S8/SDHQ install? How much does a spare hood bulge run?

No, just coincidental. I recently purchased a color-matched bulge for my chrome deletion mission. I would peek around on Ebay for chrome or even unpainted ones. Then you can pop it on to have something while you work over your OEM one.

I added the one in the bumper...only issue I had was I couldn't reach the winch control unit so I had to relocate

I just noticed a crack on the passenger side corner of the hood bulge. This will be an interesting conversation with the business installer on Monday.

Is this from the light bar making contact with the corner of the bulge? Hard to tell from the photos. Seems like it could be remedied by moving the brackets back a bit.

The cracks are because it wasn't installed correctly. Once again, if the bar was installed per the SDHQ bracket instructions, the bar would be further back and have close to a 3/4 inch gap between the surface of the bar and the bottom edge of the bulge opening. Your bar looks like it is right up against it. The clearances between the brackets and the bulge are very tight and that's why the corner clips get trimmed and the brackets placed in a certain spot. Not trying to start crap but whoever installed it did a poor job and should be embarrassed that he let it leave his shop that way. Looking at the bulge deformities that yours has, it is the worst one that I have seen out of everyone that has installed one.

As I stated earlier, I believe it to be either the corner tabs not trimmed adequately, bracket placement or a combination of both. Looking back, I can’t help but feel a little guilty for not installing it myself. I got impatient looking at it in the box while dealing with a pinched nerve in my neck with radiating pain in my left arm. It’s better now, and I’m thinking, why didn’t you just wait? We’ll, hindsight is 20-20. Maybe, I would have had a similar problem with the install, don’t know. What I do know is that I’m on their schedule for tomorrow at 1:00. All wrongs will be made right.

@Tundra234 if my memory serves me correctly, you had problems with your install as well, am I correct? Would you care to share and elaborate your experience?

This install is with the SDHQ mounts. I’m not aware of any other mounting hardware specific to the S8 in Tundra hood bulge. Don’t let it hold you back. The S8 is great light bar, but tricky to mount in hood bulge. Many have had problems, but get it corrected. I’ll have mine corrected soon!

Hood Bulge Issue Fixed! The corner clips were trimmed correctly. They ended up moving the bar back as much as it could go. Had a body shop fix the crack and it’s barely noticeable, in which I’m fine with.

Did they drill new holes to push it back. I would keep an eye on it because the brackets are still extremely close by looking at the pics. My brackets are all the way back to this raised area.

The ‘template’ SDHQ supplies to drill the bracket holes leave much to be desired. There is a ton of tolerance and that template can be placed anywhere. The brackets that come with the kit for the light also had the holes drilled in two different locations. Simple compare with brackets that should be a mirror image to one another, just put them back to back.

Everyone that has done the install knows what to look for with the install being as far back away from the front of the hood as possible. In the instructions there is nothing that guides someone that has never done the install. A shop that never did this before would be reading the instructions so the install cannot be better than the instructions if you never did it before. Just my .02 FWIIW

No, that is from the wind coming into the front of the light and the wind going over the light seems to gather in the center and the hood bulge tabs break in the center allowing the bulge material to flex. I could lift myself up in the drivers seat going down the highway and look between the hood and bulge and see the road

I couldn’t agree more with what you stated. SDHQ needs to be more specific with their install directions and include a detailed video.

I literally have all of these pages pinned to pull notes from (and to provide tips with) when I do my install video. I've installed a couple, but never filmed one yet. @Tundra234 will be a critical help to my script when I get around to it!

My ability to pump out videos is admittedly lacking, but it is absolutely on my list of stuff to get filmed!
