What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Finished completely rebuilding my front end yesterday. Only part that gave me trouble was the only non OEM one I used. It was recommended on here to go with Moog aftermarket links. I love that they can be greased, but the quality is subpar. Went to put the nuts on after I dropped the truck and they would not thread. Tried the nuts on the old end links and they worked. Bolt was poorly cast from the factory and would have needed to be taken off and massaged. Didn't have time for that, and don't want junk parts on my truck so pulled them and put the original ones back on. Heres the junk part:

Everyone always says Moog is a good option, but I've had more shit parts from them than anyone else. I've had good luck with the AC Delco Pro line.

 

My personal experience on parts-store/ OEM sway bar links is that if you do any serious off-roading is that they'll eventually snap.

 

Moog was the go-to company for suspension parts in the 60s. Suspect it's all Chinesium or Turknology now.

 

I noticed some power steering pump whine after changing the rack out. It was very loud at first and has got more quiet now. It's only been driven 15 minutes or so since swap. I filled the reservoir and went lock to lock a bunch before ever starting it. Is this normal or is something jacked up?

Nice! Question though, how easily can you bent those down out of your way? Appears pretty easy. Is it 1/8” or 3/16” thick?

 

I would not call it an easy bend, I've hung on mine a bit and it's possible, not easy. They could be built a little farther forward I think. I haven't tried to put a sawzall in there, maybe could cut the front pipe with some angled cuts. I have wondered if running some weld beads along the pipe would wreak enough havoc on a blade to make it tougher.

 

I believe they are 1/8” thick. Pretty stout. Maybe the Rock could bend them. Or a 600lb gorilla. Lol

 

I do agree they could be a bit longer to cover more area. But either way they can’t get a cat out around them without modifications to the guards / plates. Which IMO is a good deterrent because they are looking for the quick and easy low hanging fruit

 

I only buy Moog Japan parts. Or OE Toyota.

 

2 down, 2 to go. I also ordered a battery tray from Toyota for my larger 27F. This is the first OEM part I've been disappointed with. It's flimsy as hell and showed up warped. Way overpriced too.







Part # for O2 sensor nuts- 90179-08059

 

Both my 2000 and my 2018 came with 27F size trays. They are just plastic but all they do is keep the acid off the metal.

 

Been fighting this connector a while. Do I have to remove it from the bracket in order to disconnect it?

 

I believe I stuck a small flathead in there instead of trying to push the latch.

 

Time to reset the code and hope the engine light doesn't come back on.

 

Wired up a chase light, being on the topper, I didn’t have many options for clean wiring. The wiring snakes along the bulb seal of the back window, down the bed by the tail light, and under the bed and along the frame. Auxbeam panel makes for nice and easy connections!

 

Lock-to-lock action was done with both front wheels in the air, and cap off the res?

Not sure if that's the SOP with our Tundras but that's how I was always taught to do it.
