On the plus side it will be an opportunity in the future to have them swap the grill and bumper on from a Sequoia….

Someone posted on FB they had the bad turbos but was able to get them out by removing the exhaust system only.

Seems like easy to replace that instead of the whole damn turbo.

I've been spending too much time on these threads, half my Google news feed is turbo and wastegate related articles... I'm not even in the market for a 3rd gen. I'm like an onlooker coming out to watch the aftermath of a wreck. I can't look away...

Judging from the photo it seems WD-40 and some Never-Seize has completely solved this problem. Time to move on, nothing to see here.

Wheel-well access, from FB post, so consider the source (just like the frame-off photo).

This is what I’ve been saying for awhile now. BUT turbo is not coming out the wheel well, it’s pulled out down between the engine and frame. The previous post showed the turbo with all the compressor side piping on it. That probably needs to come off though.

Yeah, Toyota could but seems like Toyota is collecting the whole assembly for analysis.

I saw 3500 listed. Or about the same price as all these Gen2 guys on here will pay for their eventual cam tower fiasco, except theirs is coming out of their pockets.

Thanks, now we see the nuts and bolts. Seeing it's a two-part assembly illustrates and explains that TAS bulletin from TakiEvo a couple pages back. The wastegate actuator is a subassembly attached to the turbo. David Chao did a Youtube about this. So (after access by whatever means) the mechanic removes a circlip, a wire connector, a couple of bolts and the wastegate subassembly is out.
Yeah, the turbo itself doesn't have to come off the exhaust manifold.
    Good photo.

My point is that no vehicle is exempt from issues. The pile on happening on this forum about an issue happening to a few 2022s is epic. We don’t know yet how many. But we do know about the cam tower leak. Most appeared between 60k to 100k miles. Check your driveway in the morning and Good luck. The Gen 2s are good trucks despite this and other known flaws. Tired of all the crapping on the 2022 by people just speculating with little knowledge. It’s a great truck.

Garage floor stays dry, for now. I shine a flashlight on the cam tower area every now and again though! We've been buying Toyotas since '79 but if it fails me; it's gone.

You’re right but it’s not like the new TTV6 is that much more efficient. They could have put put the new 10 speed transmission with new differential gearing and done just as well. Just sayin’.

But it’s also amount of emissions put out by engine, even if getting the same mpg. Not all are as “clean burning” which is I think the bigger part of it.

Man, if people really cared about emissions, they'd be more honest with themselves and resist using a damn full size as a single occupant commuter.

I mean, compared to people buying Platinum, 1794 or Capstone, what's wrong with buying an SR or low end SR5 and a new Corolla, same overall cost, only drive the truck when needed.

Nope. People want to play the "better emissions" or "better mpgs" acting like someone actually cares.....

I agree, but there are many more factors than emissions alone for personal choices. Cost of insurance changes, parking changes, maintenance and upkeep changes. For some 1 veh is their “best option” so they will pick one Thant can do as much for them as they think they need (or want). Don’t get me wrong, my other veh is a hybrid that I put more miles on, for some of those reasons you mentioned.
However, the manufacturers are facing emission standard #s across their whole line up. They get dinged for not meeting standards on their entire lineup, regardless of who or why people are buying them. They market is demanding trucks, so they will build them, but have to build them to meet standards. End users just want the vehicles they want. It’s a vicious cycle

Yeah I don't really blame people for buying a nice truck. It's a freedom we are able to enjoy.

I should be more clear.... the legislative entities are just doing busy work to justify their paycheck.

I, personally, have owned my current truck 13 years and also always had a second car to keep the miles off of the truck. Some years the truck only gets 2k miles, some 5k. We only use it for towing, road trips, off-roading, camping, working.

I haven't found the cost to be any higher, having 2 vehicles. My truck rarely requires much, and my car has been dead-reliable too. Could be because I only buy Japanese.

Ha! Wow, man you are usually pretty level headed, but that's pretty far off.

I mean, if you said they're doing it to avoid sanctions, I might buy that.

The USA is no longer "competitive" on a global scale, at best we merely contribute.

BTW, as a government employee, I can assure you that most agencies are busy growing themselves, like a cancer. These people only care about their resumes and "failing upwards"

But I guess I've derailed a turbo thread way too much for one day!

I'm sick of the "truck is fugly" opinions. Imagine these same people IRL buying a truck and someone walking by yelling "that is an ugly POS". Same energy.

I would prefer people to post the goods and bads, be constructive and be helpful to other forum members.
