I've gone about 10 miles on it now. Everything working beautifully. Haven't put it to the floor yet but here's a video with pedal at about 70%. Disregard the sensor warnings - I hadn't put the grille back on yet in case I needed to get back in for something.

Thank you for the front camera recommendation you made way back at the beginning of my build. It fits and works perfectly!

Damn. I thought inflation was making everything go up! I paid twice that for those horns in 2016 lol Thanks for finding them and sharing the link! For that price they can't be beat. I left my factory horns running with them for a really unique and attention-grabbing sound. The relay fits perfectly in the upright brace right under the hood latch. I used a sheet metal screw, then ground off the back of it when I put my intercooler in (the IC wouldn't fit behind the screw).

Yeah, 10". I was extremely happy with how it sounds too. I have never heard it from outside the truck before and always thought it was just a little too quiet on the inside. To quote Keith from when I bought it, he advised "sometimes people tell him it's too quiet. His response is have you ever heard it from outside while you're getting on it?" That guy truly does know his exhausts!

I also have the 10” and also feel it’s quiet at times. So then I hit tow haul and stomp on it. Usually clears all non sense.

:rofl:Yep. I am currently kicking around the idea of doing something like his budget dump on an electronic cutoff for those times I really wanna hear some good noise up front, but I also have to admit that having it as quiet as it is inside the cabin isn't so bad either. I still use it to haul the family around after all.

lol! I tried rotating that thing every which way I could and the uploader just would not play right with me.

Finally figured it out. I was rotating and saving in Microsoft Photos, but I guess it was only saving my view - not the actual image. I just opened and changed it with Photoshop.

lol no problem. It was irritating me too that I couldn't figure out how to fix it. Must have rotated it a dozen times with the photo viewer app before finally giving up and just uploading as-is. What do you think about the horns? Did you leave the factory horns live too?

I hear you…it’s already a roll of the dice if the children are going to wake up to the cold start at 530 in the morning. That being said I have also thought about a baffle on a switch but I’m not sure of the legalities and the 10” is very satisfying in its own right. Really it’s exactly what I was hoping for in an exhaust. Sometimes I just want Fords and Rams to hear my glorious exhaust note a little clearer though;)

lol yep! I've never heard a Ford or Dodge sound quite as good as this Tundra 5.7. They really need to know what they're missing out on. But then, when I gotta leave for something at 6AM...if I wake up the kids and leave my wife there alone to deal with them, I'm good as dead.

    lol thank you!

Awesome to see you finally got the charger all setup and dynoed! Definitely a healthy increase.
I will recommend if you haven't already, ride in your passenger seat and have someone else drive (if you're that trusting person type). I've ridden in the passenger seat in my truck once, and I was really surprised by how much louder the 10" seemed vs. the drivers seat, I was pumped lol.

My wife normally drives home from our sushi dates and I get to enjoy the passenger seat experience. Wasn’t entirely sure if it was the sake and cocktails making it more enjoyable but there definitely is a difference.

Been a few months since I updated. The truck is still going through a few changes as I get it exactly where I want it.

One of the big disappointments after driving with the Magnuson S/C for about 800 miles is how unresponsive and sluggish it seemed under normal driving conditions. Sure, it was faster if I WOT'd it but the truck wasn't a lot of fun to drive under less-than WOT conditions.

Enter Cole Hershberger with HP Tuners. This guy spent four hours at my house yesterday tuning and re-tuning my truck. This was HPT's first 21 S/C'd Tundra. What really impressed me was the dedication to getting it right. First thing he did was take a log run on the existing tune to see where we were starting from. I was very shocked to find that not only was I running a little lean but I was also knocking. I couldn't hear it audibly, but twice during my 800 miles I have had a cylinder # 8 misfire. I thought it was probably just me doing something stupid like getting my spark plug gap wrong. Nope, turns out it was the tune triggering the knock sensor and sending it into limp-home.

Over the course of four hours Cole remapped my ECU/TCU 8 times and logged about 15 miles of data. The preliminary result is a phenomenally different truck. He told me up front that his goal was to have the truck living in its boost zone, and he kept his word. It holds the right gear longer and downshifts at just enough higher RPM to really count. It's faster, far more responsive, and running so much better I can actually hear a difference in the exhaust note.

The current plan is I am going to put a couple hundred miles on it this week to help it un-learn its bad habits from the previous tune (once you wipe an ECU, it takes a few drive cycles for all systems to reach readiness under the new tune). Once that's done, Cole wants to come log it one more time and possibly make additional tweaks. Then, lastly I have a dyno appt set up on 5/31 that he's going to come to with me as well in case there are any additional changes that we can make to improve the powerband. I'm already loving it so much more than I did before that it's honestly hard to imagine it might still get even a little better!

My new best friend lol: Cole Hershberger

I just spent the last hour reading your build thread. Very awesome what you have done and definitely provided many of us some ideas! Gotta ask, what do you do for your day job to have this much time to work on your truck, 2 kids, and stay married? Based on your tax write off reason purchased a new truck I'm assuming self employed, but what field do you get to put all this engineering knowledge to use?

    Badass build

@scpete24 Thank you! I had a badass time building it. What I like about trucks is they're a blank canvass that can be so many different things. Just look across these build forums - everything from lowriders to overlanders to everyday use-it-for-work rigs all with their own artistic stamp placed on them by the owner. Getting to build this one exactly the way I use it most has been really satisfying. I really try to think my projects through from start to finish and then approach it like I'm building a piece of art.

I write off the truck through a couple side gigs but my primary job is as a mortgage lender. Secret to having all the extra time is having a truly amazing assistant. I'm spending more time at it now that rates are higher but at the time I built the truck we had such a great system going I was legit only "working" 12-15 hours per week. I also have a computer station all set up out in the garage so as soon as something comes up with the day job I can jump right on it. As far as any engineering knowledge goes, I've been modifying and building stuff since I was a teenager. As I've grown older I've found that I really like challenging myself to get better and better at things over time. Not everything comes out as well as I'd like it to of course but the process is still rewarding and fun.
