Thank you. Yes, it’s been an ongoing discussion since before the holidays. They contacted me and I was willing to listen as it’s a pretty significant opportunity. They made the initial offer last week but told them to go back to the drawing board and try again due to several factors. Traded messages with the executive recruiter yesterday and expect to hear back before the end of the week.

Super tough decision. I like living here but this job opportunity is the kind that does not come along often and has the potential for me to better support my family and accelerate future retirement, etc.

You all are not rid of me yet though!

Hard to pass those up for sure. Austin is a pretty amazing area.

It goes without saying but you’ll still be welcomed here!

We have our first trip in late March. What else do you do to prep your trailer for the season? How many miles do you go before repacking the bearings?

Same people who don’t want Oregon to go away from full service gas pumping. They are scared to use a gas pump apparently.

I’m having the service done every two years since I only tow it about 1,500-2,000 miles a year. Many say you should do it every year but that seems excessive given my mileage and age of the trailer (2018).

Other things I do to dewinterize are:
    • Sanitize the holding tank.
    • Fill and pressurize the water system to check for leaks (winter freeze damage). If you hear the pump pressurizing the system more often than normal, you’ve got a leak.
    • Pull everything out and organize the gear. It is amazing how much crap migrates to the trailer during the season and doesn’t get used.
    • Check the tires for wear and tear.
    • Run everything, including the A/C. Things love to die during the winter months.
    • Fill propane.
    • Inspect batteries.
    • Inspect any exposed wires or pipes for damage. Especially under the trailer were rodents can do damage.
    • Inspect and clean the roof. Apply more sealant goo if needed
    • Wash and wax the trailer. Trailers seem to fade fast if you don’t keep a coat of wax on them.

Great list! Thank you. Still new at this trailer thing so trying to learn as much as I can. Good things is our trip in March is close to home and in the middle of a week I have off so I can work on many of these things. Have a big trip planned to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons in August. Might make an appointment and have the shop repack the bearings for me before that trip. I would do it myself but with a double axle trailer and no driveway space it would be a pain.

Daughter and I are heading out this weekend. I still haven’t done most of the items on the list, so it will be a “lets see if this works” trip.

I’ve always wanted to learn how to do the bearing repack, but never taken the time. For $173 per axle, Les Schwab is hard to beat. Includes a free brake inspection, which is nice.

I’d waste a lot of time buying parts and watching videos.

I didn’t even think about LS for this work. Way easier to deal with them then the trailer service. Same here on the parts, jack, etc.

Both of my TT's have had EZ-lube wheel bearings, have you guys checked? With the wheels still on pop off the bearing hub cap (unusually chrome) then there's a rubber dust cap behind that and then your grease zerk. I usually give them 2-3 pumps. Takes 15 minutes tops.
Still a great idea to get a brake inspection though.

That sounds very similar to the bearing buddies I have on the boat trailer.

Huh…no, I’ll need to inspect that. Guess I figured if the hub was covered up that the bearings were sealed.

    Yeah, check it out.
Funny thing when I got my first trailer, I jacked it up and pulled the wheels off one side to grease them. That's when I learned they make it real easy for you. Lol

I cannot get the cover off. Tried tapping it out with a rubber hammer and nada.

When I do the wash/wax in a few months I’ll pull the wheel of cuz now I’m curious AF.

Got a pic? I had to use a really thin screwdriver to pry off the plastic chrome cap

Yeah, without causing damage of course, try a thin flathead screwdriver under that Winnebago chrome ring. Should pop off

Dont those wheel center caps enter from the back of the wheel? To access the hub shouldn't there be a cap on the hub itself? Which would mean to remove the wheel? Just thinking out loud here lol

They do, that's why I pulled my wheels off the first time. :D
But the very center piece pops off for greasing.

    Nice!

Follow up question though. You can add grease this way but is it not best practice to also repack to remove any crap and inspect the spindle? Or said another way, grease this way on some basis of miles but repack on another basis, maybe alternating between the two methods?

Yeah, I'm not an expert but it's a sealed housing.
I don't plan on opening mine up unless there's a reason to, leaks, overheated, brake seize etc..

Ah, that makes sense. Sealed versus unsealed. Still a noob with this stuff.
